@ I grew up on a beach in Florida and after seeing Jaws I took up scuba diving and wanted to become a marine biologist!
@michaelalbino10069 күн бұрын
This is currently the second-oldest movie the RT TV gang have watched. Jaws was inspired by a book. And the book was inspired by a real life event. The 1916 Jersey Shore shark attacks. In July 1916, several people were killed by a shark. Eventually, a Great White Shark was caught, with human remains in it. But most marine biologists believe the real culprits were Bull Sharks, since they are one of the few sharks that can swim in both freshwater and saltwater. And the biggest shark in existence is the Whale Shark, a harmless filter-feeder. Second largest is the Basking Shark. Sharks aren't very intelligent despite being around for almost 450 million years. There are many species of different sizes and shapes. My personal favorite is the Thresher Shark with its long tail that it uses to stun prey.
@VengefulPurity9 күн бұрын
I can’t remember the name of the documentary; but I think these experts determined that it was in fact a great white that caused those attacks due to the moon phase at the time of the attacks. They claimed that with the high tide of sea water into the river, there was enough saltwater for a great white to have survived, and that it was also a juvenile great white that was the culprit.
@Ashmo6139 күн бұрын
Actually, it was a bull shark, as it happened in a river near the mouth of it.. Bull sharks can swim in both saltwater and freshwater. They can go from the ocean and swim right up a river.

@lyndoncmp57517 күн бұрын
At least one of the ocean attacks in 1916 was the work of a large great white according to some experts like Mark Marks. The attack on Charles Bruder. There were probably different sharks involved, like in Egypt in 2010. A bull shark is a likely candidate for the creek attacks although the water wasn't fresh water and bull sharks are not really known off New Jersey. Peter Benchley claimed he wasn't inspired to write Jaws because of the 1916 attacks but I'm not convinced by that. He must have been, even subconsciously. Frank Mundus catching a 4,500 pound great white shark off Long Island in 1964. Benchley thought "what happens if one of these came in to a beach community and wouldn't go away?".

I have seen two stupid girls react to jaws and at the beginning when the girl is being jerked around by the shark, one of the stupid girls said why can’t she just stand up? I don’t think I watched their entire reaction because of their stupidity. They also reacted very stupidly to the exorcist. Since I never have, nor do I ever want to watch the exorcist, I did not watch the reaction. I only read the comments. Almost all the comments to their reaction to the exorcist were negative.

Saw this in the theater in 1974. In Florida. Yeah, nobody went into the water for a year. Fun fact: the shark was mechanical, and rarely worked. Rusted alot. So, the directors decided to use the yellow barrels to indicate where the shark was. They also used side camera shots. There was alot of fear the movie would fail. Turned out, the way they had to film the shark, left mystery and suspense for the audience...which worked better then the full shark. The very first movie in history to be labled a "summer blockbuster".

This movie made me seriously afraid of sharks as a kid, but as an adult, I've learned that the majority of sharks aren't ever trying to attack humans and if anything, some even save humans and ask us for help if they're injured. Of course, aggressive predators will always exist, so better to be safe

There is similar movie about a Killer Whale that came out 2 years after (1977) Jaws called 'Orca the Killer Whale' (also PG... lol but...) that is really effing dark! It stars Richard Harris which you will someday see whenever you do the movie Unforgiven (Clint Eastwood movie). I would watch it before watching Jaws 2 and it'd be unique - hardly anyone has ever reacted to it that I've seen. PG movie that is not on Jaws level but it's crazy disturbing and the best knock off Jaws movie in my opinion!! Shouldn't be PG probably but I'm a gen X kid and we were built different haha!

Sharks were already being killed before Jaws. It's just that hardly anyone cared as they weren't fashionable and people simply weren't interested in them. Jaws made people fascinated, and science jumped on the bandwagon. In reality the Asian shark finning industry, commercial gill net and long line by-catch and the beach netting programmes wiped out way more sharks, and none of them had anything to do with Jaws. Just saying. Cheers

It's rated PG because at the time there was no such thing as PG-13. Rated R then was a bit strong. So, unless a movie was entirely inappropriate for a younger teenagers to come see on their own, it got a PG. R was for things like The Exorcist. PG-13 was invented in the 80's because they realized that there were a lot of movies that should be higher than PG but didn't quite need an R.
