Love that everyone is finally finding Tremors. I had this movie on VHS as a kid and I wore that sucker out. It flopped in theaters back in the day but since Blockbuster was just around the corner it made its money back on rentals. It's the ultimate "B-Movie". A true master-class in entertainment. They even use it in film school now.

Tremors feels like a college film class project, but that's part of its charm. Both Kevin Bacon and Reba McEntire have some of the best sarcastic comebacks in this whole movie. Side note: The little girl with the pogo stick was played by Ariana Richards, who's best known as Lex Murphy from Jurassic Park.

This movie has something for everyone. A sci fi, b-monster horror flick, with elements of Buddy Comedy, Westerns, Action films, and even a hint of romance with Val and Rhonda. The design of the Graboids are so unique and established the trope of a smaller monster actually being a small part of a bigger one. The Alaskan Bull Worm episode of SpongeBob directly references Tremors with Sandy only defeating the Tongue of the creature first. The origin of the graboids is left ambiguous until the sequels as their origin is irrelevant to the plot of this first film. This is a story about the townsfolk working together to try to survive this situation. Val and Earl are the heroes of the picture and the town handymen, but they might as well be the village idiots. Up against creatures that are much smarter than they seem, and only get smarter.

Seen all of these movies and the series and love them. The only person in all 7 movies and the series is Michael Gross’s character: Burt Gummer (although he played his great grandfather Hiram in 4 which is technically a prequel). The reason for the motherhumpers line was because Tremors is rated PG-13 and in a PG13 movie, you only get one use of the F word.

Just because y'all aren't the only ones I've seen confused by it: The white sunscreen on Ronda's nose when she's talking to Val & Earl early in the movie is likely a physical sunscreen (zinc oxide is the most common), the difference between those and "regular" (also known as "chemical" despite, y'know, technically everything is) sunscreen is that the former tends to remain effective for much longer and provides better protection while also being--on average, it can very from person to person--less irritating to sensitive skin. You just don't actually need to cover your whole body with the stuff, chemical sunscreens work fine for larger areas, so it's most commonly put on areas where your skin is thinnest and more sensitive to UV damage--like on the nose. But since it's a physical sunscreen, it doesn't ever really "rub in" and become clear, it stays white.

I highly recommend you watch at least movies 1-4. I think they create a pretty good little self contained quadrilogy, while 5-7 had definitely slipped pretty far from their horror/monster roots and into more action-y adventures. Still fun but with a different feel and focus. Michael Gross is great but I think he works best when balanced out with a nicely rounded crew. Plus I like the community of Perfection and like to see how it develops throughout the 4 movies. I've watched these movies ever since I was a little girl, when my mom watched the first one with me and the part at 5:38 used to scare me too (not that that stopped me from watching, lmao). If you end up watching all 7 I still think you will have a good time.
