The alien was standing between Ripley and the shuttle ship, that’s why she tried to stop the destruction. Seeing she couldn’t, she went back to pass and the alien wasn’t in the corridor anymore..

I don't know if modern audiences can appreciate the impact of Ripley. Women in previous science fiction movies were scantily-dressed eye-candy that needed rescuing.

I think the opposite. Younger people are so hyper focused on gender and so on they read too much into it. This isn’t a character driven film at all. They’re just crowbar plot devices. Also within the film the Ripley character is actually the company ‘man’. You feel sympathy because she’s fighting a monster but there’s noting female specific about her or anything in that beyond her actually being a woman.

I once heard or read theory that the entire series is basically based on sex sexual assault and the R-word. The first thing these explorers find is female representation in eggs. When eggs open or hatch a spider-like alien underbelly resembles that of a vagina attaches itself forcefully to its host face. It then the host for it to carry an unborn alien hybrid within. The alien, then rips itself forcefully out the host body and we already know what the alien resembles when it’s first born.

Wanted to set the record straight: People are gonna come in saying "They didn't know anything about the chestburster scene!" which is NOT true. They were told a general idea of what to do (the actors need to not block the camera. They can't do that if they don't know what the camera is trying to capture. Or where they should look to not ruin the take, how do you know if you're blocking the action if they won't tell you what the action IS, etc. I've worked on film sets and the logistics of "don't tell the actors what to do" would be absolutely insane), but they were not told just how VIOLENT it was gonna be. So they did one take, wasn't so bad, then they did another, and THAT take is where the fake blood really went flying and it caught them way off guard. The girl screaming getting hit with blood, THAT is a genuine reaction.

The "rain" just before Brett's death was condensation from the ships massive cooling units. Same principle as running your car's A/C when it "drips" water, forming a puddle. In this case, the ship recycles the water.

I also think that room houses one of the ship's planetary landing struts. The big metal structure hanging above him looks like one of the "feet" folded up. If so, then it probably has a couple days worth of ice built up on it that's melting.

The xenomorph also known as Internecivus raptus, are bipedal in form, though, depending on their host species, they will adopt either a hunched stance or remain fully erect when walking, sprinting, or in hotter environments. Their overall stance and general behavior seem to result from the mixture of the respective DNA of the embryo and its host. The critique about a lack of action is fair, but this was conceived as a horror / suspense film. And it was much scarier in a dark theater, instead of in a lighted studio chatting with your buddies. Part of what makes it suspenseful is the sound design; no music, just ambient noises, and long sequences building up suspense. It probably comes across as too slow-paced for modern tastes, but you should try re-watching in a dark room by yourself. The sequel is much more action-oriented.

Then it's not fair. Expecting action from a movie or series that establishes itself as something that wouldn't have characters capable of such things is foolish. Dead Space does it, but not everyone is built like Isaac lol

There wasn't fighting back or proper tracking and tactics because space travel is to the point of a crew being the same as your local mechanic, the secretary, and the manager who just happens to have a scientist on retainer. They know how to fix up and operate the ship but some of them are just the dudes that learned stuff by doing it so no textbook behavior. So yea, they're not ready to deal with some alien no one has data on, and the Alien takes it's time to ideally abduct people individually which is why we don't see any bodies.

If you think about it: they are both aliens and predators, but the predator race has a lot in common with us and we can have common understanding and communication with them on some basic level, which is what makes the xenomorphs the real Aliens, because they are just killing machines.

Credit to Bolaji Bodejo who portrayed The Alien/The Big Chap Ash may have been protecting the alien, but there is good reason for them not to try killing it when it was born. *The acid blood.* Ripley was trying to stop the self destruct because the alien was right in front of the shuttle. She couldn’t get to it. When she couldn’t stop it, she just had to hope it was gone when she ran back. Unfortunately it went into the shuttle. Ridley Scott’s idea for the Alien’s behavior was that it had a life span of a few days and was looking for a place to die. It attacked and killed when it was disturbed, and it got weaker as more time passed, that’s why it’s kinda slow at the end. That doesn’t carry over to the other movies

The interesting fact of both the Alien franchise and the Predator franchise...neither species is the actual predator, they are both hunters. The Xenomorphs (Alien) are a perfect organism that does not need to eat, while the Yautja (Predator) are a warrior species that hunts predators and doesn't kill to eat. The predators of the franchise are humanity's elite killers, that's why we witness the Yautja not killing unarmed non-threats. This was one of the few good things came out of the film The Predator, was the notion that calling the Yautja a predator was an incorrect categorization...as the Yautja hunt big game for sport.
