Kool, Mr Graham Reid. Definitely a Scottish Gentleman who had the good sense to leave the “Dark Isle”. And follow his passion, I am a committed “Petrolhead” and have always been a huge fan of the Mini Cooper S. Have owned both road car verions(modified) & race versions, ultra lightweight with the full race 8 port Arden head & TJ fuel injection at the time that was the ultimate spec(naturally aspirated) produced around 135+ bhp @ the flywheel. It was built to run in the Special Saloon Class, basically a silhouette formula. The shell was an early Mk1, rust free!!! unusual in the UK. & ultra light, a person could lift the rear end with one hand with ease. It had a few tricks suspension wise but believe it or not it ran with the standard Cooper S front disc brakes and minifin alloy rear drums both front & rear with race spec pads & linings respectively. Also a kool tuned megaphone exhaust, the performance was vivid and with the correct set up, gearing & tyres (on Hillclimbs) it could give the big single seaters a real run for their money. It was very similar in spec & colour to the infamous BVRT mini (it ran a supercharger with the fuel injection), which coincidentally I was offered in the late 1970’s, I so wish I had acquired it. But I also own a Landar R6, a sports racer from the late 60’s, Mini engined. I believe it won it’s class in the SCCA Championship way back in the mid to late 60’s. So I heard many moons ago. Interesting little machines, with a very successful race & rally history.

I wish I could have my old 67 Mk1 Austin Cooper S back again! I loved it and I knew every nut and bolt on that car. Must have had the engine out 10 times it always went back with a modification or two thanks to David Vizard.

7:50 Australian Mini Cooper S - MK1 - WRONG bonnet badge.. thats a 1969 - 70 MKII badge..and MKII flared guards - just being picky.. you know the last 90% - ( TONGUE IN CHEEK ) - I have one as well..1967 S ( and 2 other minis ) - PS... I see @ 8:56 I see the deseamed mini has AUSTRALIAN DOORS.. ;) LOVE YA WORK.. I FEEL THE SAME

SA Minis had the same doors as Aussie cars iirc.

If he wants accuracy in a restoration, he needs to change the bonnet badge on that Aussie ‘67 Cooper S. The oval badge wasn’t on the model until ‘69 Mk2.
