I've seen plenty of deals with 3050ti, 3060 with much higher tdp and sometimes amd 6700s under $1000 (sometimes a lot under) in the US. If you don't care about power usage, you might find one of those with better price and build.

That's the CPU difference. The benchmark comparison is not very good since the entire system other than the GPU is different.

The 1% lows are very similar between them which means it's neck and neck when discussing smoothness, or in the case of 3050 and 4050, lack thereof. And using DLSS3 is anything but honest since the 4050 can barely hit 50fps without it, which means an 80fps framegen has over 15-20ms added latency making it a similar experience to playing games in last gen consoles.

DLSS3.0 is great to have though. Trust me if you had a 40 series card, your try it out and uts not a feature you'd want to give up. Sure you can live without it, but its just a "nice to have" feature

@@GregoryShtevensh the fact you can't grasp such a simple concept as the 4050 not having high enough baseline fps to make DLSS3 useful tells me you're either an AI spam bot or just refuse to let anyone say anything remotely negative about your pet brand, facts be damned. The 4050 barely musters enough fps with DLSS2 as it is so the added latency with DLSS3 will be a nightmare. At that point and level of gaming, one would be MUCH better off buying a steam deck, especially with the price hike on the low end this gen. The 4050 is indefensible for anyone with common sense.

Feels like the 4050 is the best candidate for frame gen + dlss use in the 40 series laptops since it usually ends up in the dlss sweet spot of 40-60 fps and frame gen takes it up to 100. A serious consideration for an entry level 40 series laptop if it wasnt priced so poorly compared to previous gen entry levels

Nah, frame generation is a win more thing, you need a good framerate from the start for it to actually be smooth, sub 60 probably won't feel good.

I have a comment to make. I sincerely appreciate all the hardwork you put in, and this is particularly why I think reviewing your testing methodology should be done from time to time. Since you say the average fps in all games graph is a compact way to see the performance differences easily, I want to point out that different games have different typical fps targets. E.g. in Cyberpunk 2077 it's cool to have 60 fps, but in CSGO or Apex Legends 120 fps might be a reasonable expectation. So carrying out an average of games for which the optimal fps targets widely vary is, I think, a poor way to do statistics. The suggestions I have (feel free to discuss) is to use a reference machine to find out fps for different games (data for which you will have available). This will give you an idea of the optimal target fps for different games. Now you can compare each new GPU to this target - obtain a ratio, for instance. Finally, you compare GPU 1 and GPU 2 ratios, which are the subjects of comparison in a particular video, and that I think respects the vast fps differences in games better.

Loved your video! I was hesitant about only having 6GB of VRAM with my 4050/Acer Nitro 17. This baby RTX makes simple work of anything I play Cyberpunk, Battlefield 5, Counterstrike 2, Diablo 4 NFS Heat and more. Looks amazing, manages great temps and with DLSS I feel it has more future proofing. Liked and subbed!

Somehow, this guy knows the exactly when to release the content you need at the right times. I'm currently in the market for a new gaming laptop but on a fairly restricted budget & the highest I thought I could go as far as GPUs was the 3050ti. But if I manage to get a good deal on very specific 4050 powered laptops, I may have to save up some more & go that route instead. I appreciate the in depth comparisons as always even though I've never been a fan of MSI's budget options, one of my biggest gripes being the cooling solutions they opt for. Like, why would you equip a 4050 powered laptop with just a single fan & 1-2 vents. It forces them to have these low power limits & you don't really see the full potential of the GPU.

What I conclude; If you have a 3050 laptop, you can stick with that, lower a few quality preset and still play almost all games around 60 fps. Going for a 4050 from a 3050 not worth. If you are buying a new laptop, forget aboıut 3050 and put some extra bucks for 4050. Great review as always.

The issue with the 4050 laptop is that it its CPU. It has an Intel Core i5-12450H, which has 4P and 4E cores. The 3050 laptop has an older i5 with what are effectively 6P cores, so... I find it hard to choose any of these laptops personally for gaming 😅

Word of warning (it may be obvious): Stay away from any RTX 4050 laptops that only come with 8GB of System RAM. I had one, and it kept running out of memory until I bought a 16GB Ram kit. It performs very admirably for 1080p and even better with DLSS (which I'm coming around to)

Really interested in the new G14 from asus, those are one of the few released laptops with AMD cpus for this time being, the other laptop majority has switched to Intel

I think the 4050 nails my typical everything-laptop use case. I don't want a portable desktop, I want a portable work solution I can play light games on when not at my desktop. I can boot up an MMO or MOBA and get some playtime in and keep the price of the laptop low.

Supposedly the RTX 4050 can reach 140W, which is a significant jump from the 3050s. Add the 6GB VRAM and this should definitely be a good showing for the new budget cards. Unfortunately it's gonna be priced just as much as the 3060s. In my country anyways. Still it's quite a good showing for the cards but it might not be as fast or faster than the 3060.

To be honest, considering that I don't use ray tracing and i don't really care about it, my msi gl75 with full powered rtx2070 does much better than lower tier gaming laptops. I think I'd rather wait another year before upgrading. 80 fps is sweet spot in my case although i get 120fps in modern warfare II benchmark

Wow, the fans and heatsinks on both of these laptops are scary. Compared to another gaming laptop, they usually have 2 fans and a massive heatsink. My Lenovo Legion 5I 15imh05h 8y6000dus runs the coolest out of any gaming laptop I've ever used to tested. But, it has 2 fans on each side and a massive heatsink. These 2 laptops look like they run super hot!

Paying more for performance features both only on few, particular games AND on particular cards is unreasonable. A 3060 is probably a more sound choice as the cheapest option. The 40 series cards is only practical if you don't plan on playing any games from at least a year ago.

I feel a bit bad knowing I could've coughed up 300 more dollars for a 4050...but I only want 2 games into 2024 which are half life alyx and stalker 2. but i dont want an occulus for another generation as there are so few games worth the purchase, and stalker 2 is constantly delayed. Im not sure if I should trade it back...but i plan on upgrading in 3-4 years anyway. Im pretty disappointed in myself for not thinking further, but there just arent enough games to justify the 2gb of ram.

It is funny how all reviewers fancy frame generation, like its a base feature and not just supported by a handful new titles, those titles each cost like 5-10% of the laptops price lol...

It's also funny how comments like this happily ignore the fact that I always specify that it's only available in a handful of games, the point is it will presumably grow and get bigger over time like DLSS. Same thing happened there.

@@JarrodsTech Yes, I know you do, yet still many commenters do not seem to understand that is not a base 4xxx class driver feature and 99.99% games will not support it. But yeah the low-mid category in laptop chips is the best "benefiter" for it for sure.

The chip inside the 4050 is TINY. And if dls3 frame generation works this well it basically proves its not because of special hardware. Nvidia could absolutely get this running on 3000 series

So, let me get this straight. The 4050 and 4080 were a massive improvement over the 3050 and 3080ti but the 4060 and 4070 are basically just 3060 and 3070ti but with frame gen? At least the 4060 and 4070 aren't that much more expensive as long as you compare the same brand laptops, not counting sales that is

Great video as always. I know it's a lot of work, but it would be great to see a laptop that actually uses the 4050 with its 115W power limit, instead of just 40W. I assume the 4050 is capable of much more than this.
