@@JarrodsTech You should not have recommended it in a pinch because most people that watch this won't use common sense. Of course, I wouldn't do this with an aftermarket charger. Only with an OEM (Most of them stop charging if they overheat). Not that they normally do on a consistent basis. Unless they are covered. Even then as long as it's not for long periods you should be fine. You just got to use common sense like gaming on a bed blocking ventilation fans. Point is it's better than nothing. Also, if you look at the video, he put the corner of the charger under the laptop. Just enough to tilt it, Not the whole charger underneath the laptop. Think people!!!

Bonus tip, avoid using less viscous paste like MX-4, Kryonaut, KPx, etc on a laptop as they're more prone to pumping-out effect. They're best used for desktop CPU that has an IHS. Honeywell PTM 7950 is currently the best choice for direct die cooling (laptop and discrete GPU) and you don't have to worry about it pumped out of the chip. But if you really want a thermal paste, then you should get those thicker one like MX-6, TF-9, TFX, CryoFuze, etc. Thicker paste are less prone to pump outs.

I'm actually looking to repaste my laptop soon. Looked up online and people mentioned regular paste will dry out pretty quick and also the pump out issue, so it's a no go for me since I don't want to do it regularly. People recommended the 7950, but I'm not sure where to find genuine ones (heard there are fakes out there). There's also kryosheet as well but that thing is expensive as hell. Two sheets for cpu+gpu is gonna run me like $25, which is twice the price of a tube of normal paste...
@hadifelani
@hadifelani 9 ай бұрын
@@Summer-xu8qu the pricing of PTM7950 is around in the middle between kryosheet and premium paste. But the largest size (80x80mm) option is somewhat the same as kryosheet and carbonaut though. At least in my country, dunno about yours. If you often open up your laptop due to dust problems like me (I clean up my fans once every 6-8 months and I can't remove my laptop's fan without disassembling the whole cooling system), then I think you should prefer paste over PTM7950. Because it's kinda a waste to use PTM7950 in that circumstances, longevity is its strong point aside from good performance.

I gotta disagree with placing the laptop brick underneath the air intake. The radiating heat from the power brick gets sucked into the intakes. I learned that the hard way when I did just that to my Legion 5. No damage, though, but I hit thermal throttling way earlier than leaving my laptop on a flat desk.

@@Reaversword3D PTM7950 has the best performance out of all TIMs like thermal pastes and carbon pads (all go on the CPUs and CPU/GPU dies, it doesn't replace the need for VRAM thermal pads or thermal putty). The only other TIM that's better is liquid metal - but the margin is only around 2-4C compared to ~10-15C on thermal pastes, and the difficulty of applying and maintaining liquid metal makes it almost impossible for laptop manufacturers or laptop users to apply it well without some catastrophic outcomes, which I experienced myself (I'm glad the laptop I serviced still works, I was extra cautious when removing factory liquid metal on an Asus ROG laptop which spilled away and breached the first line of defense and caused CPU stability problems due to shorting the SMD components on the AMD CPU). Thus it means that PTM7950 is 7-10C better than all newly applied thermal pastes. What is more, both thermal pastes and liquid metal all have limited service life of around 1-1.5 years on gaming laptops (yes, there's a reason why I had to service a laptop with liquid metal applied from factory). PTM7950 has a service life starting from 2 years but can be left unmaintained up until the laptop breaks after 10-15 years, with hardly any performance degradation. This is because PTM7950 (not PTM7950SP, which requires extra steps to apply properly) does not suffer from the pump-out effect, nor does it dry up like pastes, because it doesn't have silicon, which thermal pastes do. There's a tutorial on Major Geeks website about reducing the "maximum processor frequency" setting in Windows' Control Panel, which would let you fine-tune the CPu clocks downwards to improve efficiency and decrease the heat, without effectively halving your performance per core by turning off Turbo Boost and having your CPU only reaching the base clock speed, which is usually too low.

I was playing Horizon Forbidden West lag free at 60 fps and then uninstalled it. After about a month when I got back to it my games were lagging and I didn't know why. Thought it was thermal throttling and so called up customer care. They told me to update my BIOS after which everything was lag free again. Henceforth, I will never underestimate how important the BIOS updates are.

Hey Jarrod!. We all know that the most anticipated game is Gta 6, for which the trailer is gonna be released this coming Tuesday, 9:00 ET. I really think you should think about creating a video for the same based upon it's visuals, graphics and try to figure out the Minimum and recommended PC specification according to your expertise. I know its too much to ask for creating a video by just looking at a game trailer, but this would help a lot of gamers around the world to pick the right laptop that could support GTA 6.

Tips to make your laptop last for many years: 1. Always clean the screen with a microfiber cloth. Don't spray the screen cleaner directly onto the screen, instead, spray it on the cloth. Don't clean the screen or the laptop's body with your T-shirt or a rough cloth, that'll leave scratches. Always use a microfiber cloth for cleaning. Clean the laptop once a week, don't do it regularly. Don't use water to clean the laptop. 2. Clean the fans and change the thermal paste once in 6 months or once a year. Disconnect the battery before cleaning the fans, otherwise, you'll fry the motherboard. 3. Always put your laptop on a cooling pad. 4. Don't turn the laptop on and off many times a day. twice a day is ideal. 5. Even if your gpu is capable of getting 100fps, even gaming at 60fps will give you the best experience, this way, the gpu will be cooler. Always check the temp. Temp is more important than the framerate. 6. If your laptop is expensive and you bought it as a desktop replacement, don't ever take it out with you. You never know what happens. 7. If you own legion, always set the battery to be on conservation mode. This will extend the lifespan of the battery 8. Always handle it with care as if it's a baby. As Jarrod said, open the laptop from the middle and treat it well.

4. why? seems very random to say that twice a day is an ideal number of restarts a day. it really shouldnt affect the laptop 6. if i bought a laptop as a desktop replacement, im going to bring it with me lmao. if i didnt want to bring it anywhere id get a pre built desktop, its the whole point of a laptop

@@fatperson1152 The whole point of having a laptop is only portability? Are you sure buddy? laptop 4060=desktop 4060 which is something between the desktop 3060ti and the desktop 3070 or same as the desktop 2080 in raw performance(when you enable FG+DLSS3, performance of the 4060 gets as powerful as the desktop 3070 or far better than the desktop 2080 when FG enabled, for a person like me who's only into single player games and offline games, it's a W) while the desktop gpus consume so much power and in my country 4060 laptops are pretty affordable while 2k monitors cost an arm and a leg(at least 500-600$), desktop 3070 alone costs at least 800$ here, in some countries it's 600$, the 3070 that doesn't support FG and consumes too much power. I own Lenovo Legion slim 5i rtx 4060 140w(in games it reaches upto 130w as well when overclocked so stop listening to the medias) i7 13700H 2TB nvme gen 4 32GB ddr5(5200) 16" 2560x1600p 100%srgb and let me tell you what, I don't feel like "I have a laptop but not a powerful desktop" at all. Even on intel iris(its igpu) I tried rdr2 at 1600p medium settings and I get 30fps-45fps, in gta v at 1600p I get 60fps at very high settings also you can play many modern games at medium settings average on the igpu which is as powerful as the 1050 gpu which means if you wanna save so much battery, go a head and game on the igpu, if you're home, plug it in and enjoy the full power 4060 and play everything at 1600p/ultra and temp never goes above 65c when gaming and playing most demanding games on the dgpu at ultra and it's usually between 55c-65c thanks to the great cooling of legion. We're in 21st century my man. It's 2023.

Yeah, it sucks that each brands have different policies about the warranty sticker / factory seal on each country. My country's MSi is like that as well, they treat a factory seal to be the same as a warranty sticker that will be voided if broken. Funny enough, I've watched some MSi laptop review video that the youtuber is living in Germany but they don't have this factory seal bs that voids the warranty.

I personally also have 1 SSD with the stock configuration on the side. In the past, when my pc would become unstable or worse I would get a problem with driver compatibility (black screen of death windows 7 for example) I would just swap the ssd, clone the SSD again on the problematic ssd. This was much faster than reinstalling windows and then trying to remember what driver was the one working with your 5 year old capture card, how did you get that windows 98 game to work or other things like that. Best part about this trick is that the OS ssd does not need to be large, so price wise it is a very small cost.
