If you know what you are doing and have a very good power supply, you can run it Pigtailed on a 550W power suply. i am doing this with 0 issues. (only do this when you know how much your setup pulls and know what you are doing) reason you can pigtail is that you only really need to use seperate cables if the card pulls more then 225w (the cables can actually withstand alot more) see the 4070 for example. that card is 200w and is running off a single 8x pin

For the cables I have a lian Li 12VHPWR to 3x8 pin cable will this still work?
@alessandrovinicius57694 ай бұрын
Hello, my friend, good morning. I need to ask you a question. I bought a GALAX RTX 4070 TI SUPER SG, and when I installed the adapter, there was no CLICK. I applied a lot of force and didn't find any gap. My question is whether there should be a CLICK when attaching the adapter or not. THANK YOU.
@sinnistar994 ай бұрын
Im not 100% but I think sometimes depending on the card there isn't much of a click noise

What's exact reason for this? I tried both configuration and there's no difference, except in benchmark I got few points more on a single cable....
@stygiann3 ай бұрын
So the 12VHPWR cable is known to fail under load, 4090 12v ports are melting. And it's always a good idea to use two separate 8 pin PCIe lanes if you can because depending on your motherboard the daisy chained solution could melt the cables or cause failures (if it's not a good brand name PSU) and it also depends on the GPU but I would be better safe than sorry.
@HorseezTWB3 ай бұрын
@@stygiann I have 4070 super and 600w be quiet pure power 10 psu, in the GPU manual there was nothing suggesting using different cables, same as my previous rtx2080 which had similar power consumption... never got any issues in this config
@stygiann3 ай бұрын
@@HorseezTWB It's your particular case, maybe you were lucky with your unit but it's true that GPUs are failing due to the 12v cable and you can't deny the facts. I would recommend you to get a better PSU whenever you can

These 12v adapters are the biggest trash, any alternatives that you don’t actually have to force in so much that it risks breaking the motherboard?

Sorry for the late response to any of these comments. Recently upgraded my 3060 12 gig to a 4070 super. Say if I got a atx 3.0 psu that comes with it’s own 12 power pin cable, can I just use that instead of the adaptor? It’s a 850 watt psu the 12 pin it comes with is rated up to 850 watts I went a little over with how much shit I have in my build from builds over

@iambicpotato21984 ай бұрын
I did just that with my RM850e and RTX 4070 Super. It's been running fine for the past two months! In my opinion, if your PSU comes with a 12VHPWR cable, it's usually best to just use that directly while avoiding adaptors and such.
