The CPU is good, but it's a massive bottleneck with the 4070 ti. The GPU should be running above 90% and the CPU under 40% for a balanced system.

@@reqausxobi This benchmark clearly shows that the CPU is not a bottlenecking the system at all with those settings. The CPU was running at around 75% at highest and around 50% or less for many games. The CPU usage doesn't have to be 40% and it could run at 90% if needed and still not bottleneck the system. So unless you are streaming and you are rendering the stream on your CPU on that same PC it doesn't really matter. There's literally zero reasons to upgrade your CPU for gaming if it's not bottlenecking the system.

Thats insane. Upwards of 95% GPU usage in games like Battlefield, RDR2, Fortnite etc at 1440p ultra. And still able to pull up to 200+ fps in Valorant, Siege 6 etc. If you're looking for a 4070ish upgrade and targeting 1440p ultra, the CPU limit is actually not bad at all. You only start seeing issues in really poorly optimised games like Hogwarts legacy, which honestly you should just stay away from anyways. I would personally upgrade to 5800x3D since I'm a bit of a frame snob in competitive games, but if you're really on a budget you can honestly hold off until either an AM5 upgrade becomes affordable, or until something dethrones the 5800x3D. (Though this could be a gamble given just how poorly optimised newer games are becoming with the intro of DLSS 3/FSR 3 tech sadly) But it is seriously something to consider to just save yourself the $325+ on upgrading the CPU. You're probably better off spending that on a 7900xtx instead. Get that 24GB of VRAM and be happy with your GPU for the next 6+ years. All while saving yourself a possible AM5 path sometime soon rather than maybe 6+ years down the road instead.. Regardless, the R5 3600 is STILL an insane CPU.

hey bro, i just upgraded to a rtx4070 gigabyte. I still have an amd3600 like you, at the moment i am on 1080p, would it be worth while me upgrading to 1440p? since my utilisation is quite low on 1080p. Im new to pc builds if im honest. Some games i play have a HUGE increase in performance when its more gpu bound but cpu bound its only abit better performance. should i upgrade to 1440? i wont be upgrading my cpu or motherboard until next year. Hey! Got a question- I have a 1070 and 3900x + 16 GBs 3600mhz - Im planning to upgrade to a 4070ti soon ( 750W plat seasonic PSU ) . I was wondering between an used 3080 or an unopened 4070ti. The price diff in my country between these two is around 700-800leva which is 300-400 euroes. Saw some posts about users with the same combo but they said their CPU ( the 3900x ) is drawing them back and the best choice would be the 5800x3d. Thing is I only want to spend on a new GPU as I consider my CPU enough. Currently im on 2 1080p 144hz monitors with a potential upgrade to either 1440p 144hz or 4k. What would you do and do you think the 3900x would be that bad for the 4070ti ? > :)

Great video and benchmark!! I have a 2070 Super that is experiencing problems (randomly shutting down even when idle), and due to these issues, I want to switch GPUs. However, I won't be able to upgrade my CPU (Ryzen 7 3700x) for a while. I know it's not worth upgrading from a 2070 Super to a 30xx series GPU. My main concern is the potential bottleneck. I upgraded from a 2070 Super to a RTX 4070 recently because I switched to a 21:9 2k monitor. I still have a Ryzen 5 3600X and the only thing I noticed in some games (Ace Combat, Days Gone and Forza Horizon 5) is a short heavy framedrop sometimes after a loading screen for like 1-2 seconds. Overall I still hit constant 60-100fps with high to ultra settings, so the rest of my PC will definitely stay in duty for the rest of the year

Right now you should only buy a GPU if you really need one because the GPU market (mainly Nvidia cards) is still a mess. For example the RTX 4070 should be the 4060. Still a good GPU tho (I like how efficient it is), just really overpriced

Just replacing the thermal paste might help, stock cooler should be able to handle whatever CPU it comes with. If not, then maybe a $30-40 air cooler from Amazon will help a lot (I use a 240mm AIO with my Ryzen 5 3600, temps are 50C under full load)

@@cirofdo No, I do not have this combo. I currently have a 4 year old 3600x 1660 TI combo and was considering an upgrade. And I wanted to know whether the cpu is going to be a bottleneck. It is possible that r5 3500 is bottlenecking the system, like I have checked numerous benchmarking videos and have come to the conclusion that even the 3600x will bottleneck 4070. I think it's better if you can upgrade your cpu to something like 5700x and it would gain the performance that the 3500 is lacking. 5700x will not bottleneck the 4070.

But the r5 3600 bottlenecks indeed, BF 2042 is a great example. But I'm ok with it so far, especially with DLSS and frame generation.

From what I can tell it will bottleneck a lot, I'm planning on getting one but the best processors to use for it within acceptable pricing for me which would be the Ryzen 9 5950x as my Mobo is a MSI MEG UNIFY x570 and that is the best processor it can take. It seems to work very well with this GPU based on what the Bottleneck Calculator says. the RTX 3060 is perfect for Ryzen 5 3600 though, I own one right now, but it cost me around $380. So for about $800 or a bit more, you can legit land a 4070Ti and be way ahead. Sure, having to buy a new processor stinks, but that's only if you want almost 0 bottleneck in your system when playing on say, 1080p or 1440p. an Extra $400 for that vs the 3060 is well worth the investment.

I tested few games in my pc with new rtx4070ti on 4k tv lg 60hz and gpu usage is 97 percent monitoring throuhgt msi afterburner .. i tested world of tanks, new cod with battlwroyale, battlefield 2042 eurotruck and American truck simulator,cyberpunk and witcher with nexgenupdate and games have 80+~ fps. Only battlefield V have microstutering but only on start match. Ventus is really nice card size two slots like me old rtx2070. Only temperature on load is little high 76celsius . Run that card on 750w psu seasonic 80plus titanium.

Can I ask why in some games gpu and cpu utilization are both below 100% ? I thought that one of them (the weaker one) should always be at 100. Why for example is gpu utilization in hogwarts legacy just 50% with 50fps ? Does not it leave some performance at the table by not utilizing the components fully ?

CPU has a certain amount of cores and games usually don't work with every core there is, means the cpu isn't being fully used even though it's the weaker one. That's why you won't see a 100% usage on the cpu unless you work in a blender. Hope that explained it atleast a bit... May be wrong also :D

so I've seen the other tests with the r5 5600x and with the r7 5800x3d, all in 1440p ultra set, and they have the same fps result with the r5 3600 in some titles like RDR2, GOW, how is that? in the rest of games the r5 3600 was 10 to 20 fps lower than the others and in some cases had half of the performance than the others as i could see in elden ring this one was getting 60fps while the others were around 110fps.

@@henry3397 Well it depends upon the resolution, Graphic settings and the game, buddy. If you're gonna game at 2K or 4K res, with the graphics set to High or Ultra quality, then even on those CPU intensive games (eg. Cyberpunk 2077), you'll be fine. But if you wanna extract some significantly more FPS from the same card, then just go for the 5800X3D.

Well, you need to change it soon, you can't really play newer games as they do use CPU a lot and it tends to get pretty hot, just tried Cyberpunk with same setup at 1440p Ultra RT and Ultra...both settings make my CPU hot, above 75 degrees most of the time even with Noctua NH-D15. The Last of Us is even worse even after multiple patches, even building shaders make my CPU go up to 80 degrees and when playing, it stays somewhere in 78-80 degrees...unsafe levels.

@@V.D.22 yes, because 3600 have 12 threads, that means like 12 core for system, but not all are usable for games. My old R5 2600 had every game max 55% usage and was bottleneck for ma 5700XT.

yeah Hogwarts is getting CPU bounded (notice how GPU usage is low af) , this cpu is pretty old and shouldnt be used above 2070 in my opinion (regardless of ur resolution).

I'm considering the 4070 ti still as i play many games, not just hogwarts. and i realize i may get bottlenecked, but if i can get 60 fps roughly still on ultra I'm happy. and i can upgrade my processor later. i tried a 6800xt and it let me do almost 60fps on ultra but not ray tracing (not a big deal). but those cost almost the same right now.

@@seanivrymusic What kind of games will u be playing , also if u wanna stick with this CPU consider buying 2k monitor or playing with DLDSR on (i use it with my 3600) , u get better quality and as u will be CPU bottle necked , it will only increase some of ur GPU usage while still giving same frames . as u know 4070ti is a 2k beast . u will be fine reaching 60fps on most games , also there is DLSS3 which helps in CPU bound case by adding frames .

It depends on what game you’re playing. Many of these games showed a lot of bottle necking. The GPU was not hitting 90%+ usage, and the CPU usage was very high. I’d recommend 5600 and up. 5800x3D if you want the best

So alot of people in the comments dont do a few things to make max potential of the cpu So first update your drivers... you need a x470 or newer for most motherboards to have the pcie 4.0 update lower grade and budget mobos 95% of them dont support the speeds the card will run at.... you need to have xmp enables simple...... you need to undervolt your cpu and overclock it...... Also seems like alot of yall do not know where you cpu is being bottlenecked... mostly your motherboard your welcome. I overclocked my 3600 with a wraith cooler 4.5ghz all core boost on a x470 board. Airflow is your friend 9 120mm fans help

If you can get the 5600 it would be better, 11400f will bottleneck at 1080p, also the 5600 will bottleneck if you're playing on low 1080p (eSports games) but still the 5600 is better

It seems like it could be reasonable to upgrade my 1660 Super to a regular 4070, not Ti, without upgrading the 3600 just yet. 5800X3D would be an option for sure, but don't want to spend too much at once. Probably just going to see how it goes with the 4070 first. Will probably stay on AM4 for a good while. Upgrading to AM5 is too expensive, although 7800X3D would probably be a better pair still. And this is with 1440p with G-Sync so it should be fine. And even if there's a bottleneck, the FPS would still be great with the games I play.

In almost half of these games the RTX 4070ti is being limited by the CPU, I think ti would be wiser to upgrade to 5800x3d and wait till next gen to upgrade GPU or if you have a 4k screen you can probably make the most of it

Hogwarts legacy is so badly optimised. I've got this running 60fps on a 2070 super with a 3600 and no DLSS. It is on high rather than ultra but I honestly cant tell the difference.
