Seems to whittle down to one question. Do you need 8K? If you do, it's the 90. If you don't it's the 80. I was originally going to plump for the unpopular 4070TI but this comparison has convinced me the 4080 is the sweet spot for 4K with this game. Thanks - very helpful indeed.

Thank you. I found it interesting on the 4080 (4k) the GPU @ 98-99%, VRAM @ 74-74% and under 300W. Great temps. The 4080 can't dance in 8k! I was actually leaning towards purchasing the 4070 Ti (trying to save $350) however this clearly shows VRAM would be an issue in MSFS.

You're welcome. It's just like you say. If you're going to be playing higher resolution games like MSFS I'd lean towards the RTX 4080 if it's in your financial capabilities.

I have the i9 13900 and a 4080 and on DLSS > Quality settings with all settings at Ultra (including terrain and object level of detail at the default for Ultra), and on my system, the CPU Main Thread is almost always sets the FPS limit. If I get out into open water or low density areas, the GPU will be the limit but in these areas the frame rate is generally so high that you don't even need frame generation. Frame generation works well, but the GPU is running much harder (typically 95% or higher) and the GPU heats up some. I think the 4090 is overkill for MSFS, but for someone with an older processor, investing in a new motherboard and processor could be a big upgrade.

I'm not a big MSFS player but I think there is some technical limitation in this game from the game engine for maximum FPS. It's not a limit, but some form of natural limitation perhaps coexisting with generating part of the world in the cloud. Would have to be told by experienced users on MSFS 2020. And yes FG can get around this limit and increase FPS in a given location.

Interesting, thanks. I'm torn between a 4080/4090, but looking at this the 4080 is going to give excellent performance. I play at 1440p so the 4090 might be overkill for me in msfs.

The 4090 is pretty much useless unless you absolutely need the best, or use it for work tasks for example. For Video, Graphics etc it is great but for gaming it is unnecessarily overpowered. But for 8K gaming it's a must :).

@@Speed-jf6wm I'd move from 3090 to 4090 but 4080 is also decent, especially for games that support DLSS 3 and Frame Generation you get massive FPS increase. Check out my other videos, I keep adding more and more 4080 and 4090 tests. I'm currently working on Dying Light 2 DLSS3 and Hunt Showdown.

Great video! What did you have the terrain level of detail and object level of detail set to?

THX David, All detail values are at Ultra or maximum what it offers, I mean texture details etc.. as for other parameters they are default, if the game offers any slider values, the values where you can select Low, medium etc.. are at Maximum. Unfortunately I uninstalled the game (I needed to free up space for further testing), I don't know exactly what all the values are in the settings but I'll check the footage I shot.

There is a Global Render Quality value. It was set to Ultra, and I guess it acts like a preset, so everything else is set depending on this selector, and this selector was set to Ultra.

My question might be somewhat stupid but does anyone know if multiple displays (per say 2*4k displays) adds up to a total of 8k in game resolution?

It's the same amount of pixels, and just as difficult for the computer to run but it's half as sharp per monitor as 8k would be. I hope that helps.

the difference between 4090 and 4080 in the first few seconds seems wrong, can you explain?

You have to be more specific, but if you really mean the first seconds then it's simple it's an 8K test. So 24GB vs 16GB VRAM, there's not enough VRAM on the 4080 to process 8K textures. There will be a VRAM overflow and a drastic drop in FPS.

I have the money but that does not mean I am spending close to $4000 dollars on a laptop. I'll take the 4060 even though I have a lower quality, but I've saved 15 hours of my flight time for my private pilot license.

Notice how people urge you to purchase an outdated GPU. It's common knowledge that barely anyone plays at 8K, about 50% play at 4K, and most of us play at 2K. So, in other words, don't be swayed by fanciful deceivers. Besides, the 5000 series is expected soon, and you might regret buying a 4090 right now. A 4080 seems reasonable because the price expectations for the new series are still uncertain.

I'm literally In the process of purchasing new system for flight simulator. Thanks for this. Originally I was thinking I should just go for 4090 since my past experience on flight sim it never was enough. But I think the 4080 is not doing too bad at all My old system was a 19-9900k with rtx 2080. I just sold this system

@@ponchantos The game is completely basic as downloaded with gamepass without mods. I'll keep all the GPUs, I want to keep testing the cards and putting it on youtube that's why I bought them. As far as CPU's go Intel 13900K is good or 7950X3D or 7900X3D but they are not out yet.
