Great explanation. I just purchased an HP ZBook Power G9 with a I7-12700H, A2000 8GB, & 16gb (1x16) DDR5 4800Mhz. Supports dual channel RAM and am considering either 32gb (2x16) by adding an additional 16gb or replacing both for 64gb (2x32). This specific configuration was on a heavily discounted sale and appeared to meet a reasonable benchmark for SolidWorks. What are your thoughts on this configuration and what type of use and limitations should I expect? Which RAM upgrade option makes the most sense for this configuration? Thanks, appreciate the insight.

Hi Seth, thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video. The laptop you mentioned has exactly the specs I would aim for, so it's great that you managed to get a good deal on it. Whether you need 64GB RAM would depend on the size of your projects, but I wouldn't recommend any less than 32GB. 64GB would certainly be a good choice for very large projects, and it would save you time and money if you end up needing 64GB in the future. If the discount you got on the laptop leaves room in your budget for 64GB, I'd say go straight ahead. The 12700H/A2000 combo will be good for quite some time, so 64GB wouldn't be wasted on this laptop. Thanks again.

I was hoping to purchase the components to build my own computer however I have no idea what steps I need to take. I was thinking of building it around the new Nvidia RTX A4000, I was going to go with the Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 but I figured the newer the better. Hi Gaith, thanks so much for the feedback! Really glad you enjoyed it and found it informative. There's quite a big jump in performance from the RTX 4000 to the RTX A4000, but you may not need the additional GPU power and your budget could be better allocated elsewhere in the build. I'd only go with the A4000 if the rest of the system is already full of high quality and high performance parts, or you won't really be able to appreciate the higher performance. While checking pricing, I'd start with a spec like i7 12700K, 32GB RAM, 500GB PCIe 4.0 SSD, RTX 4000. These would be my priorities before deciding to go with the A4000: 1. Power Supply Unit - Must be stable and reliable, ~750W 80 Plus Gold from a reputable brand 2. Motherboard - Z690 for overclocking, must have good VRMs and heatsinks 3. CPU Cooler - Appropriate cooling capacity for overclocked 12700K (at least 240mm water cooler or high end air cooler 4. CPU - Main factor for performance in most CAD software. Could I afford an i9 12900K? 5. RAM - Must be enough for my projects. Do I need 64GB RAM? 6. SSD - Is 500GB enough for my files? Do I need 1TB? Once I know these are all sorted, it's worth it to consider the more powerful GPU, if it's within budget. Thanks again, and I hope this was helpful :)

Even on large assemblies (1000 parts) with detail set to high I can’t slow the thing down . 5 large assemblies open in sep windows at once and it doesn’t miss a beat . I still get inaccurate results on transparency settings . When working top down placing features on parts after mated to assembly , I need translucent to see holes underneath. Still a problem .erratic results .

Hi Alex, thanks so much for watching, and that's a great question. My first instinct was the Ryzen 7, but it looks like the 12450H actually has better single thread performance. The 6800H has a few more threads, but the 12450H's 8 cores and 12 threads will be more than enough. Go for the i5 12450H. Just make sure whichever laptop you're getting has a Quadro GPU like T550 or RTX A2000 etc. Good luck! :)

Hi Angel, thanks so much for watching! With these specs, it would probably be a better plan to upgrade your CPU. The Ryzen 5 1600 is quite underpowered, but the RTX 2060 is still a good card. The Quadro P1000 would definitely be a downgrade from your 2060, even taking the Quadro features into account.

Hi Ted, thanks so much for watching. In terms of sheer performance, GeForce cards are generally much more powerful than Quadro, but we would recommend Quadro for SolidWorks for optimal stability and support. For most other software, we find that Quadro is unnecessary, but in ours and our customer's experience, Quadro is the safest option for SolidWorks. To add to this, the most important component for performance in SolidWorks would be the CPU rather than the GPU, and you could save a lot of money by going with the officially supported RTX A4000 rather than the RTX 4090.

@ModenaComputers
@ModenaComputers 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Murffly, thanks so much for watching. We've found some pretty interesting results with the 5800X3D. The cases in which the 5800X3D outperforms the 12900K are pretty niche, especially when it comes to workstation PCs. In SolidWorks it provides comparable performance to the regular 5800X, and the i9 12900K would be the better option. In fact, even the 12700K would give you better performance than the 5800X3D, if the i9 is out of your budget. Hope this helps :)

Hi César, thanks som uch for the feedback. That's a good combo of CPU and RAM. I'd recommend a T1000 if it fits in your budget. This seems to be the starting point of good performance when it comes to the Quadro cards that are currently available.

how about AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX with a2000
@ModenaComputers
@ModenaComputers 2 жыл бұрын
Really good combo. That would probably be my recommended spec as far as laptops go. The 5900HX is still one of the most powerful laptop CPUs around, and the A2000 will be good for Solidworks. The A3000 offers higher performance, but the difference in price is sometimes too large in comparison to the performance gain.

For Solid Works my Radeon Work Station GPU's have always out performed Nvidia cards (W6800/W7900) even the 7900XTX and I've never gone below 64gigs just to always have enough no matter the program. CAD/GIS 3D Studio Max.

Hi Thanks for your informative video. would 2x RTX A2000 (24gb) say perform better than Geforce rtx 4090 . I can actually get 2x RTX A2000 $600 less than Geforce rtx 4090. Use is for a 3d BIM software and 3d rendering

Hi there, thanks so much for watching :) I would recommend rather getting a single powerful card, even if it's not an RTX 4090. Most software can't take advantage of multiple GPUs at the moment, and overall you would have a much better experience with something like an RTX 4070 rather than the RTX A2000.

Its an incredibly average card for solidworks, man are you sure i have use nvidia p4000 and it handles everything i throw at it like 1000 part model assembly with shaded edges and ambient occlusion.
@ModenaComputers
@ModenaComputers 2 жыл бұрын
Great to hear it runs smoothly with more affordable GPUs on projects of that size! I think we should clarify that it's not an average card for SolidWorks in particular, but that it's pretty average as a part of Nvidia's current product line. We specialize in building high performance workstations, and our clients work with pretty massive projects. The Quadro T1000 wouldn't have been a good fit for this particular client, and the higher performance available from the A2000 was exactly what we needed.

@@ModenaComputers Finished the gpu modding. Copper plate mod with kryonaut thermal paste + the "party in the back" (I didn't name it) mod where you use an adapter to route the gpu fan to a 4 pin mobo fan port (alleviates the gpu of the 3w previously used for its gpu fan). The gpu is limited on power since it's powered only by the mobo. Temps went down 10 degrees on idle (!) and power available to the gpu increased by 3w. Honestly, the greatest challenge with my itx build has been keeping the gen 4 ssd temps down. It's warming up the rest of the mobo and it's components. Should have stuck with a 1tb evo plus gen 3 🤦🏻‍♂️ Humans can't perceive ssd speeds beyond upper 2000s R/W anyways.

Nice system you have there. The RAM configuration would not be running in dual channel configuration however due to the miss-matched stick sizes. Regarding Real View, please see the link below on how to turn that on: help.solidworks.com/2021/English/SWConnected/swdotworks/t_turning_on_realview_graphics.htm If you're still not able to sort it out, we recommend asking of a SolidWorks forum and there may be an application-specific setting you're missing.
