I love Mantis. The movie version was nice but I love this version more. I always liked the idea of a future seer who has maybe gone a little insane from the multiple timelines they've seen but they still try to help the heroes, even if they don't always make sense. Also, I love how at one point she basically says in the nicest way possible, "Can it, Adam. This whole thing is 90% your fault. Now, FIX IT."

Eh, she worked in the movie because she's a supporting character in service of exploring Ego's . . . Ego. A lot of her air headedness is actually what's called (iirc) 'shape shifting or shape changing' where the child of an abusive parent attempts to discern what will please them from moment to moment and assume that behavior. Which is why, for instance, she laughs along with and agrees with Draxx so much. That's literally how she has learned to behave. I agree she wasn't a stand alone character in that appearance, but she wasn't meant to be. Then again, AFAIK the Guardians have a LOT of different personalities in their different incarnations.

I love how this Mantis is a perfect mixtute between the Comic Mantis and the MCU Mantis. She's a fair ditzy like her MCU counterpart and has human-colored skin, but she is not overly naive. In fact, she's ditzy from the fact that she sees so many timelines where she isn't sure which one she'll be in. She has a great reason for being who she is. But like her Comic counterpart, she's a skilled badass who isn't just smart, but also reliable and capable on her own.

Honestly they fixed her in the MCU and this version kind of melded them together. While Mantis' comic counterpart might seem stronger, the audience hated her. She was very much an all-powerful Mary-Sue with a totally different personality that was shoved into every comic book and conflict there was at the time. She was even written into comics that weren't MC related, which is a whole different bag of worms. Because she was so shoe-horned and powerful (not to mention unlikable), her public reception was terrible. The MCU may have nerfed her, but they changed her public reception and made way for her to be included in more media and iterations with a personality people actually like.

Some context on Mantis if you are uaware of her origin Mantis is human earth born mutant from Vietnamese German parents i dont remember but i believe her mother is the one that was in a religion or something that saw the future as i believe her mother was also a mutant and Mantis was seen as the Celestial Madonna that would save a planet or the universe or something. Its been a long while this was in her inception then the creator left marvel and took Mantis with him to DC and Image comics and built on her character in that time and when returned made Mantis as she is in this game basically along with other writers so on alot of her other names are from when she was in dc and image as well She isnt just an Empath btw she has the ability to see the future just not like for a long distance in to it like she gets glimpses that she can thread together. Oh right when she left earth she was trained by the Cree to fight so on and was also at a point captured by the Collector.
