"Life's not actually that complicated, we should figure it out" good line

this is easily one of the best interviews i've seen in a while. kudos to the interviewer because you're asking seriously great questions. i also have to say that i really appreciate ruban's comment about the theatricality involved in making setlists. as someone who's getting a degree in theatre as well as music business, this gave me SO much to think about

Wow an interview actually about the music. How refreshing.

I really like the interviewer. Ruban has a complicated mind and he’s asking all the right questions. Great interview

I love Ruban, UMO is literally one of the greatest bands of my time, his influences and own style make for some of the greatest rock music of the past decade

Wasn't sure about the interviewer at first, but he asked really good questions. I really love that he asked about why he doesn't want to be taken so seriously. That's a hard question to ask and I was wondering the same thing.

Lol, I came here expecting people to be roasting this interviewer, but apparently ya'll love him! What am I missing?

Personally I think he does a good job of having an opinion and trying to drive an interview without actually shoehorning the interviewee into his opinions. It's active and thoughtful but not controlling.

I think of it this way... the interviewer went straight in with the "You're so thoughtful tell me what your songs are about" question straight away. It's like meeting someone for the first time and going "hey let's show eachother our sexy bits" without building any rapport.

He's just a Kiwi. New Zealanders have a massive complex around being successful and accepting success. We have a notion known as Tall Poppy Syndrome in NZ. Any time anybody gains success we tend to cut them down for some reason. It breeds this sort of modesty.
@butterf1sh6 жыл бұрын
Interesting.. I'd heard of Tall Poppy Syndrome as being an Australian thing but then again the level of self-effacement of Kiwis makes ozzies seem like Americans. In any case, though I'm sure Tall Poppy Syndrome has it's downsides, it is refreshing to see someone who doesn't seem to love the smell of their own farts and thinks everyone else should too...
