Hi Hassan, thank you very much for your compliments, I'm glad my advice help you! 😊 To find nodes on your plant, you should put your fingers on the stem next to a leaf, and then trace the stem backward to where it connects with another stem. That connection point is the node.

Was wondering this too for my money tree, but my concern is the top part getting stunted. A plant will naturally do this if the top part got chopped off so wondering if it’ll stop growing and die off, prioritizing the new node.

Is it okay to move a rubber from soil to water ?
@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant Жыл бұрын
Hi Feddi, are you asking about transferring a cutting or a whole plant? If you're asking about cuttings, it's ok. And there are several things you can do to increase the chances of the cutting surviving transition from water to soil: 1) Provide at least 5,000 lux of light. For rubber trees, several hours of direct sun will be beneficial 2) Make sure the soil is fully dry before watering (use a chopstick to check) 3) Create a well-draining potting mix (1 part potting soil, 1 part perlite) If you're asking about transferring the whole plant, you can do it, but I don't recommend it. In some cases this will temporarily help your plant survive. But my suggestion is, if your plant is struggling in soil, you should see what the problem is and try to address it. It's not difficult :) 1) Measure the amount of light your plant is getting. Use a light meter to do so, as light meter apps do not provide good measurements. Then check how much light your plants needs in this table: www.mrhouseplant.com/blog/what-is-bright-indirect-light-for-plants/#lightrequirements and move the plant into a brighter spot 2) adjust your watering schedule. For rubber plants, the soil should dry out fully to the bottom of the pot. Use a chopstick to check the soil moisture 3) you should aim for the soil to dry out in about a week. If it's staying moist for much longer, reduce the frequency of watering and/or reduce the amount of water you use when watering. 4) If the soil is staying wet for longer than a week, consider moving the plant to a terracotta pot Hope this helps :)

When i bought my rubber plant i was told that it's an indoor plant . I stay in Delhi India where the summer sun is way too hot, it's 44°C.. so i got the plant in.. but now it's gone into a hibernation phase... There was a new leaf bud but it never popped open.. it's still stagnant not growing one bit
@MrHouseplant

Rubber trees don't grow all year round indoors 😊 How long has it not been growing? If it's been less than 6 months, I wouldn't be worried. It is strange though that the leaf hasn't fully grown. Can you share how much light it's getting? How do you determine it needs water? How much water do you use? When was it repotted last?

@@MrHouseplant i bought it in the month of February this year, the tiny leaf bud was already there when i bought it , i kept waiting but it never opened up. I water it when the top soil is dry and i make sure to water it till the water comes out of the drainage hole.. i built up the courage yesterday to prune the top portion where the leaf bud was along the node of the stem and kept it in water to propagate... Anything else i should do to ensure my plant stays healthy?

@@sharonpaul7513 haha I'm not laughing on u but myself bcz I had the same question when I bought it n wasn't growing since 2 months , but the thing is what u r calling a leaf is not a leaf , that red part produces leaf when it gets very big and unfolding itself . Key point is just wait as I did on some utibers advice . I bought it from nursery thinking my plant is also producing new leaf hehe 😂 but all plants have tha red part

@@sharonpaul7513the same thing happened to me when i bought my rubber tree. For months,no matter what i did, it never sprouted a new leaf. That red part just sat there. Eventually, i repotted it when i decided to check the roots and saw it was rootbound. The very next i had a new leaf, and every week after that. Shes still giving me a new leaf each week.

That is normal, they don't grow all the time, they just accumulate energy the other part of the year. Just make sure to give it plenty of light and direct sun all year round, so that when it starts growing, it grows big 😊

@MrHouseplant
@MrHouseplant Жыл бұрын
Of course it works. How does notching work? A growth regulator auxin is what forces lower buds on a stem to remain dormant. Auxin flows from actively growing shoots downward in a plant. When we remove the bark and cambium above a node, we’re preventing auxin from reaching the node below the cut. This enables dormant buds to start growing. Imagine a shallow stream of water. If you put a large rock in the middle of the stream, the water will start flowing around the rock. The notch we’re making is the rock. The stream is the stream of auxin. The same way water would flow around the rock, auxin will flow around a dormant bud. Which makes it possible for a new bud to start growing. It takes some time and skills, so it sometimes fails due to making a cut too shallow or not wide enough. But it does work! You should try it. 😊
