My gf would sometimes tell me that girls we passed on the street, had commented negatively about her dark skin tone. I told her to ignore them, because that was one of the things that I found the most attractive when we met. She often commented on how chismis was so common in the Philippines. White skin girls even may be prettier than dark skin girls when they are young. But, after 35, 40, dark skin women are prettier and hotter than white skin women who get older earlier than dark skin women. I love dark and black skin women.

In Cebu, where I grew up before I move to the U.S. in my late teens, I and my Barkadas compliment your skin color by saying, She is a Mulata Beauty. It means to us, that You are a Beautiful Dark Skinned Lady. Lesson I learned from my grandma (mother's side) growing up in Cebu city Philippines. I was very upset about seeing too many wealthy Chinese and Spanish Families while we are just average families struggling to make it. My grand mother was not very happy to hear me say, we should send all the Chinese back to China and the Spaniards back to Spain. Grandma told me with a very stern but loving way, (Danny) my nickname, do you know our family history? you should. Now I will give you a choice, which country are we all going home to? I was speechless! She told me Danny, my great, great, grandfather came from mainland China, now my great, great grandmother is half Spanish/Portuguese. So, you better watch what you say, it will bite you back. We Filipinos are lucky in many ways that, we experienced many different cultures that most of us survive anywhere God put us in this Planet.

@Antonio Alfaro. Your grandmother was right Antonio. My dearest is from Sogod Cebu, we lived together there for 7 years. My wife is very astute in her thinking. She said, 'no one owns the country we live in, it belongs to all of us who live there'. A woman neighbour at Sogod, once told me, 'go back to where you came from', she also does not have the right to tell me that, the Philippines does not belong strictly to Filipino's. I had a legal right to be there, i had a residency card and i was self sufficient, not requiring anyone to support me and my wife plus, we own our home there. It's just plain jealousy bordering on racism, (because i am caucasian). The barangay Captain, once told me, ' Bob, you are a good citizen', that mean't a lot to me, because i tried to be exactly that. Bob and Lina. New Zealand.

Unplug yourself from the colonial matrix. In other words, a westerner told you that you were beautiful, or that you are ugly. These standards were based off of their "idea" of what beauty is, and was psychologically reinforced through wealth and "cast" systems to ensure that there would always be a labor force taking care of the rich elitists. Now you know that you are beautiful. Even westerners know this, which is why young westerns are breaking away from this type of colonial thinking embracing all forms of beauty, wanting to finally mary other groups of people other than western women. Hollywood, social media, and advertising conditions your mind to "think" this is "in" and this is "out". You have to go far beyond this and have looonggg conversations with your future spouse. Take long walks and talk. Go beyond the superficial stuff like cuteness and fashion and see not only the outward physical attributes that attracted you, but the mental and spiritual. In the end, the latter will always "trump" the first as this is what is needed to.keep a relationship together and lasting long term.

Great episode. What you said is so very true. When my fiance lived in Bohol there was so many gossipers. I told her ignore them. All they have to do is gossip all day because their own lives are so sad and boring. They hate to see anyone who is more happy than them. They are always so negative and jealous.She is too concerned about what they say, even to her. My mom taught us if you have nothing good to say don't say anything. I told my fiance that she needs to ignore them and tell them you are not my friends, kiss my ass and go to hell. Then they stop.

Just an add on comment about skin colour. For me, I have never understood this fixation some people in Asia (not just the Philippines) have with having light skin and thinking it is better than darker skin. For me, it is the opposite!! I have light skin but would love to have darker skin - because then I wouldn't get such bad sunburns!! Also I think it is just more beautiful than my pale skin. I was told, when I lived in China, that lighter skin is preferred because dark skin means you are poorer and are a labourer who has to work outside all day instead of an office. (who cares, was what I always thought in response). I still remember the first time I saw people in Japan using umbrellas in the summer on a bright day and thinking, wow, they must know more about an impending change in the weather than me only to eventually realize they were trying to avoid the sun! For Canadians, that borders on bizarre!! We celebrate our tans, especially in winter when it is a sign of wealth because it means you could take a vacation far away from the freezing winter in some tropical paradise! Haha, people like what they don't have I guess!

Good video. I've lived here for 16 years and great to see a Filipina talking about those negative toxic traits. Too many "happy, everything is great" videos that are unrealistic. Another big issue is how Filipinos bully other Filipinos when they speak English ("social... so OA..."). It cripples confidence of young Filipinos at a very young age.

Befriended a 101 year old woman who said this when people asked her what the secret was to her beauty, grace, longevity: I'm glad when someone is talking behind my back because they aren't talking about someone else. I wondered about that for a long time until I settled on one of my favorite countries to immigrate to, which for years had an official motto, and you may even hear it often repeated in the general population: noone is better than everyone else. What the awesome woman of great age said, and that favorite countries motto was, set me to wonder: how can I understand that, be that? Not just for altruism, but, if I go to that country without being that wise: maybe they will kick me out for not being cool enough, ya know.

Being from the US and married to a Filipina also living here 6 years i can say you are 100% correct in everything you said. My wife use to use skin whitener. She stopped when i asked her many years ago. She looks like she has a very nice tan something us in the states strive to achieve. Also right is she is never wrong. Always an excuse lmao. She alone supported her family and put her younger brother threw collage. The folks next door don't speak to us and say she changed since getting married to a foreigner. I think most are upset i do not lend them money. We will be moving soon we purchased land in the mountains and are building a new home there. I will be glad to get out of this toxic city where karaoke in the middle of the street till very late at night is a common thing. They dislike me because i will go to them and tell them show respect for others and lower there volume. FYI Most Filipino's can't sing. Don't get me started on the driving.

I’m from California in USA, I have 3 sisters They want beautiful dark skin every year in summer. The spend all their time in the sun, sunbathing . Every year ! They are in their 60’s now . Still sunbathing So, white American women want to look like you, and Philippines women want to look like my sisters, white I married a Philippines girl 8 years ago and I’m still madly in love with her ! Three pieces of advice for those struggling with the topics in the video: 1. Self confidence: the hardest lesson we learn. Some get it easy and others take years to break a cycle of mind games… the ironic part is you’d never know who is struggling. 2. Toughness: Tough times make strong/resilient people. It would be nice to have it easy 100%, but then we’d all be crying over the smallest things. 3. Faith: Aligning your values with the lessons of your faith can get you through a lot. There are so many lessons in my faith about being treated poorly and how the person/people overcame their oppression.

It seems that jealousy and envy is at the root of these behaviors. I think that there's some immaturity going on there as well. Thanks for shinning a light on these behaviors. The children of poor parents can never get ahead because they spend half their life providing a retirement for their parents The obsession with white skin is like nothing I've seen before. A Number of Reasons can Contribute to the Always Late Habits 1) it was Never Stressed ( Growing up) that being on Time can be Important. 2) Being in Crowded Traffic on a Daily Basis can Lead to a Defeatist Attitude ( where Traffic is Slow, you have no control so why worry) But there is an Answer to the Slow Traffic. I studied the Traffic Patterns on my way to work. Got to know the Average Time to get from Home to Work, added 10 to 15 Minutes to that time in order to address the construction and other delays, so I learned to never Show up late.

Rubeauti! Good vlog. Many KZbin videos on the subject say that the things you are talking about, insulting toxic negative remarks, and what you said about you being very sensitive, toxic people target sensitive people and say things to upset them on purpose. It is a form of Narcissism and might even be NPD or Narcissistic Personality Disorder. They are abusive verbally and should be ignored or it will make you upset, then they point the finger and say "look, what a baby! You are SO IMMATURE!" and things like that. It's horrible, my father treated me this way my whole life and I finally had to push him out of my life because it is not healthy and he wouldn't stop. It's like he is addicted to insulting me. Watch out for these people Rubeauti! Walk away from them. Especially if you are like me. I am very sensitive to other peoples emotions and vibrations, I can tell what someone is feeling without talking to them. Narcissists target people like me, just to upset them. Especially in public. It's ridiculous, I know! Stay strong. It took me my whole life to learn how to deal with my sensitive side. 🙂

I know most Filipinos would never abandon family members and good friends of the family and most people enjoy tease and pick on each other but really I don't mean that, there is a certain line most people don't cross and if it's some kind of disorder, there are ways to tell. Like super toxic and into crazy! Thank you for the brutal truth. As a cano married to a filipina for 25 years in the US, the competition, jealousy, chismis is so bad among filipinas here. My wife has had filipina friends but the 'I am your friend until I am not' is just so depressing. Her best friend is Japanese. They get along great. Great video. I'm glad you touched on skin color. When I first came here years ago, back when Clark AB was still active, one of the first things I noticed on television and magazines was that all of the actors & models were very fair skinned or "white" looking. I'm now here visiting again after so many years and it's still the same. It hasn't changed. That was very disappointing to see especially since the majority of the Philippine people are brown skinned. I plan on making video on this topic. Perhaps we can discuss it together.

English humour revolves around the idea of self-deprecation, we will abuse ourselves before turning that attention to others. for example, my father and I say terrible things to each other, if you didn't understand the context. However taken in context we have gone out of our way to find insults for each other, demonstrating that we have been thinking about each other. You have a beautiful skin tone btw. I'm not "colour blind" as so many Westerners pretend to be, your skin is darker than mine.. so what. all that matters is who you are, not what you look like. We should acknowledge our differences and celebrate them :) Small town gossip exists all around the world and it is driven by jealousy and spite, the challenge is to rise above it, "be the better person". It is unpleasant but it is not unique to PH. Take the positives out of each day, and smile at someone, because that smile just might make someone feel happier, take care and have fun :)

During my first visit to Pampanga from the UK, I asked my Filipino friend 'what are all these adverts for skin whitening products'? He explained how Filipinas often don't like their morena skin. In the UK girls use tanning studios and products to make their skin darker. Many Western men love morena skin tone and your long dark hair, so please Filipinas, celebrate your natural beauty. I have been married to my morena Filipina for 3 years and we could not be happier here in England. Hope we can visit soon

A great lady. I have been soaking up all the Fil/Am dating videos and am trying to set the cultural expectations before I get there. Let's hope they relax the pandemic stuff before the flights and for entry. I heard flying into Manila was a pain, so its easier to fly into Cebu or Clark (angeles). Any thoughts? Just wondering.

@@Rubeauti I taught is was the good old asian saying, that dark skinned are the poor workers from the fields. So it's been connected with poverty. I know it's seen like this in Thailand. The same if your from a poor part of the country. For me its the same as fat shaming, and its connected with them having poor self-esteem. Like in another video of yours there was a comment about ALL overweight people smelling bad. I mean that commenter must have some serious problems that needs working on badly.

I guess, that most of these traits are everywhere. I've lived in South America and also raised in Europe. Gossip and jealousy across all ethnicities and cultures. Thanks for confirming that Philippines is not an exception. In case I come to visit, it will feel home.

I have to admit- I am guilty of having some of these negative vibes. I am from NY and I respect the Filipino culture. Especially their resilience and revolutionary ways. The way they changed their national language from Spanish to Tagalog very quickly- to preserve their culture. So I have to admit I feel negatively about the way the Filipino beauty standard places whiter skin or mestiza appearance above the brown skinned women- who are in my honest opinion the most beautiful women in the entire world. I do become slightly annoyed when I often see half Europeans represent the Philippines in the a pageant. Respectfully I know that those contestants are great Katriona is absolutely incredible in every way! But the Philippines needs to get over this subtle prejudice against beautiful brown people.

You nailed every aspect…that is my mother to a T. When I was growing up it bothered me but as I get older I learned a skill goes in one ear then out the other…complete ignore. I just don’t give a shit. Because of this I treat my kids differently. I always praise them and support them. I’m not going to let that cycle continue. Even money none of my siblings give money to my folks too damn Americanize. My folks on each side still have properties back home and a house plus they got there own house and my mother still complain not having money. They keep buying so much stuff. My mother at age 82 still does Botox, she gets her fake eyelashes, then her nails and hair and complains she needs money. All 3 of us just ignore her. Good video sorry of my rant but that’s my mother.

The behaviors in part Go across mini cultures. But you’re so right that it is very prevalent in the Philippines. The most damaging of all is the idea that children have to support the family. You can never break the cycle of poverty because no one ever built wealth. You are so smart and so beautiful. I know some man will be so very lucky to have you in his life. Hello Rubeauti . Yes I hear what you are saying I think one of the biggest problems is that a lot of the ladies in the Philippines are very jealous and jealous turns into spite which is sad, I have also run into the dark skin issue , I personally love the the dark skin hair and eyes but what I have heard is if your skin is to dark it means you must be poor as you work outside all the time again which is sad there is nothing wrong with working outside , as you said some if not most of the ladies in your Country are the bread winners of the family , you only have to look at the amount that work overseas they are amazing . one thing that annoys me is the amount of men that do very little and live off there sisters , wives and family . Rubeauti you live in a beautiful Country I always love coming there and I enjoy it 100% . Thanks for another great video , take care as always :)

Hi Rubeauti i have to say from my experience without being there, but from LD relationship , i have noticed all of what you mation here. For me the most toxic is that Filipinos can not be wrong they never make mistakes and especially when you find out that they say lies they don't admit that. No people are perfect all we can make mistakes but in a relationship you must have the courage to admit it and try not do it again. Unfortunately this never happened. This can ruin a relationship.

As you know, in America we have people from all parts of the world and Now in America, we date women of all colors and all classes. I learned about Filipino Time within weeks after arriving. Also learned about the saying, "Bahala na" at the same time. Now if there's something that's supposed to start at 5, I figure it MIGHT start at 6. Maybe even the same day.😏 Gossip isn't limited to the Philippines, sadly, but I've even seen it in churches, where people SHOULD know better. And as far as having darker skin, this foreigner sees it as a plus because it helps a beautiful smile stand out even more.

I don't see all this as negative. I see the bashers as jealous people who have no way to gain traction to succeed. Yes, feelings are hurt because you are a very sensitive and loving group of people. You've mentioned before the competitive nature of your culture, but it should also be mentioned in the same paragraph that in disasters, everyone helps each other. After the Dec 16th Typhoon, people lost their lives, homes, and possessions. I didn't see the crying, whining and self pitty that we see here in the US. Yes, people gossip, but it's only toxic because of your tenderness and caring nature. Your people care about everything to the point of stress about harmless words.
