Rubicon 4:1 Transfer Case Swap into Comanche

In this video, I swap in a NP 241OR RockTrac transfer case out of a 2006 Jeep TJ Rubicon. The 241OR's are famous for their 4:1 low range gear ratio. I swap in this transfer case into my 1989 Jeep Comanche with an XJ 4.0 paired with an AX-15 5 speed transmission. So if you have a Comanche or Cherokee, I'd be on the hunt for one of these 241OR's! I wouldn't say it was exactly a "bolt-on" swap but it was a lot easier than what I had anticipated. Thanks for watching!

Did you consider just flipping the shifter arm on the "new" transfer case so It's in the same position as on the 231? I seem to remember something about flipping the arm when using both the cable shifter and the Azzy's Design Works shifter linkage. Hope this helps. God bless and stay well.

I tried a few different ways and it put it in the opposite direction that I needed it to go.

Our linkage can fit the 241, but the range of the selector shaft is different. The few folks we have seen mod them and use in a swap needed to grind them shorter. But appreciate the suggestion!

I am running a 14 bolt out of a 2500 Chevy van. I run Barnes4wd pinion guards on all my rigs. You can’t beat em!

What front axle is in that mj?

That is a dana 50 with a shaved diff

What spline count is the input on these tcases want to do a 4:1 in my 88 renix model but i have a 21 spline np231

What is the exact transfer case you installed ? Np241j or Np241or or Np241 rock trac? I want to put one of theses 4:1 t-cases in my XJ with AW4 trans

How do you do the wiring for your speedometer? I’ve installed a 241j in my 91 Comanche and the tj is different from the tj.
