Just got word that Melanie passed away. My sister Gloria used to play this song over and over back in the 70's. Gloria passed away last year from cancer at 67. Rest in peace Gloria... rest in peace Melanie. Melanie did not need all the computers that today's "singers" need. Pure real voice!!

Something to trash about RS/Mick's perf? For me, he's generally impeccable, compelling beyond words on ballads like Wild Horses.I don't need to knock anyone to savor Melanie. Her recorded verses on this are sublime too IMO, yet the choruses chaotic, like she got different producers.

Up until i heard of Melanie Safka's death, i only knew of the Rolling Stones version. Although the Rolling Stones version is good, i actually very much enjoyed this version. She was much more talented then some remembering her for "Brand New Key". Of course, people who followed her throughout her career most likely already knew this. I love this version. I just want to keep playing it. Thank you Melanie for sharing your talents and yourself in this world. May you rest in peace.

When I was a kid I had a huge crush on Melanie. I was mesmerized by her photo on the Gather Me album as an 11 year old boy. All these years later and I am now an old man at 60 and still think she is a beautiful woman inside and out. I don't know her personally but from what I gather by her singing, stories and demeanor she is a lovely soul. When she sings her voice brings me peace. I cannot say that about too many singers. Melanie. Joni Mitchell. Thank you Melanie, for the years of pleasure you have given me with yout voice and art. I still have my original copy of Stoneground Words on Vinyl.
