My uncle was born in 54 and was placed in a mental facility at age 12 by my grandma. He was given electro shock treatment to "fix" his brain for being gay. He was a zombie for weeks after that... My grandma never forgave herself for sending him there. My uncle beat the odds and ended up being very successful, incredibly intelligent, and one of my heroes. Oh my, I just heard this sad news. I saw Miley and Melanie's backyard performance several years ago and was so thrilled with it that I went back and found all the Melanie songs I grew up with and loved so much. I'm truly sorry to hear that Melanie passed. She brought such joy to so many of us.
