RUBY!!!! Whether you're convinced or not, I'm SO immensely proud of you for achieving a genuinely incredible (& it really is, incredible!!!!) result! You have every right to feel disheartened, as only you can decide what you were working towards and what you would have ideally liked, but I think you did amazingly!! 💛 your family were also adorable in this! And Martha made me laugh! 😂 Here's to the end of the A level era! Excited to see your Exeter adventures x

@Chris Hodges it is not embarrassing at all. she's doing her best and dedicates a lot of her time to study, which is really great. she's doing the best she can. if the best she can is A*AA, that is fine. everybody is different ; for the same amount of work, some people will have better results than others, it's fine. anyway, please don't say ''it's embarrassing''... how do you think she would feel if she read this comment ? yeah.. Apart from putting your Maths and English grades on job applications, literally no one asks you st work what you got. What matters most is that each individual strives for what will make a difference to them, or for what is important to them. X

Congratulations! You rocked it! don't be disappointed with your grades - they are fantastic! And let me tell you sth, I got into uni with a 70% which back then was a scrape-by grade. A lot of people told me that I wasn't going to make it, never be successful because my low exam scores showed I was not smart enough. Now, I hold a B.A. and an M.A., I speak three languages, I have travelled to more than 20 countries, I am an educator, but most importantly, I am happy with my life. Good luck in this new chapter of your life, Ruby! Things don't need to be perfect, just good enough!

niamh In the States (for people unfamilair) there is a choice between 2 criterion referenced exams, academic grades, references, and extra curricular activities. Contacts can help too. These are submitted with the application. March is when people start receiving acceptance and rejection letters. Until the mid-90s(?) you’d get a fat envelope if you were accepted. It had the forms with the registration process, forms for financial assistance, housing, off campus venues (shopping,dinning) , sororities/fraternities (Universiity authorized cliques) clubs; hence a fat envelope. Now days it’s all on line.

I totally get why you are slightly disappointed initially with your RS grade. Throughout the whole year I got topgrades in one of my history courses (never below 75) and in the exam I 'only' got 68 and to get that was just slightly annoying despite getting an A* overall. Don't feel bad about it, it is okay to be ambitious xx

Elise van der Wiel How are grades measured in England? Is the 75 a percentage or points or whatever? I'm from Germany and we get it all measured in percents during the last two years of school, and I was just interested in how it is done in England :).
@elisevanderwiel
@elisevanderwiel 6 жыл бұрын
K a t h i Completely understandable. I grew up in the Netherlands and completed my education there so a levels was just an extra thing and in the beginning I was intrigued by it as well. In England a grade is A*ABCDE and a mark is the 'number' you get out of total. So in my case I got a Grade A* on my Spanish history paper with a total of 68 marks. You could roughly say (at the moment this isnt foolproof as A levels have been reformed) that an A*=100-90% A=90-80% , B=80-70%, C=70-60%, D=60-50% E=50-40%. I hope this makes sense ?

I know a lot of people here are saying you should be very happy with your results, and yes, looking at the results alone - they are amazing! But having watched you for the last couple of years and seeing how hard you have worked, it is totally okay for you to admit they are not quite what you wanted. Unfortunately, it is just the nature of the A-level system subjects despite huge amouts of work and talent in the subject you may not reach the top grade . The way papers are marked is often just on whether you tick the right boxes and not your general grounding in the subject - but I promise you, once you get to university eveything changes. You are rewarded for your curiosity in the subject, origional ideas (ones that may not have ticked the boxes at Alevel) and fundamentally your hard work. I have absolutely no doubt that you will thrive there and wish you the best of luck!

Sometimes the outcome isn’t concordant with our expectations, but ,believe me, you truly emerged as a morning star with your A level results. You’ve documented every bit of your journey and shed light on this scary process, now not as scary because you braved the wild winds and you’ve sawed a path for many others in the future. You’ve bequeathed them lessons and tools which will help them to strive and attain what you have aimed for. Please allow me to garner you the most heartfelt paeans of praise. I'm just watching this and I realized how cool it was that Ruby ended up with an A star in English and an A in RS. Almost seems like a sign that English was the path for you!

These results are just absolutely great. I hope that one day, when I'm going to do my A-Levels, I'll be as good as you. You are such a productive, inspiring and overall likeable person. Greetings from Germany, where the grades are numbers and not letters.

Hey, I was wondering how the process of writing A-Levels works in Germany, since I live in Austria and was planning to do them someday as well.

First of all, I‘m so happy for you! Congratulations! Second of all, I know exactly how you feel with being disappointed about not getting the A* even though you expected to. I literally thought out of all my subjects Maths would be the only one where I could an A in. However when I got my results I found out I got English: A* German: A- Psychology: A- Maths: B- Now German and Psychology were a complete shock to me cause I was struggling so much the entire year, so obviously I was very amazed at the fact that I was able to do that. With English I was just very content to achieve the A* but not very shocked. Maths still gets me down however. Even though the others subjects went so well, I just can‘t seem to let it go. So hopefully it helps you to know that I struggled with my results as well even though they were better than I ever expected them to be. Lots of love from Germany! (P.s.: We already got our results in June I find it very annoying that you have to wait for yours for such a long time.)

Congratulations!!! You did amazing! I understand your expectations/being annoyed because of all your hard work, but to me you are still above and beyond the other students out there. As a fellow perfectionist I understand how you see the small downside instead of your accomplishments, but I hope that you are nonetheless proud of yourself. You are so so smart! I agree that A-levels shouldn’t define anyone. It’s important to remember that it’s subjective.

Honestly I can relate to this so much. Being an A* student getting an A for me is disappointing because I know I could have achieved better. None the less congratulations and you should be so happy! Please don't worry about your reaction, it's perfectly acceptable.

It does help in college though, bc it helps you create healthy study habits and discipline. I never studied more than a few days before exams until I got into uni with full As on all subjects (my country grades us based on a 0 to 20 numerical system and I finished high school - 3 years here - with an average of 19.6) and went through 6 years of miserable med school where I did pass but sometimes with a lot of anxiety and fear of flunking because I never got the discipline and motivation to study every day and longer than 4 hours. And now after finishing it with a B average (16) I decided this isn't what I want to do for the rest of my life lmao

I am so proud of you Ruby! I fully understand that it might be a bit disappointing now, but believe me, when you're in the middle of studying for your degree, you'll look back and wonder why you ever worried about A levels at all. Now, enjoy preparing for university because the next three years will go by so quickly and you will wonder where all the time went. Make the most of it and enjoy it as much as possible!
