Hi, Dacob. I disagree somewhat. I’m 55 and I live in the USA on the east coast. I have NEVER been rude to a sales associate. On the contrary, EVERY time I shop at LV, the associates are rude to me. As soon as they find out I’m only interested in the canvas print that put them on the map, they treat me differently. All they want to sell me is leather items. I’ve purchased over 50 items over the years from LV. They don’t care until I buy leather (which I’ve done on a few occasions , with mostly disappointment). I want the canvas, not an attitude. I realize their bosses want them to sell leather, and they make more commission on leather. Change needs to come from the top, which is seriously wishful thinking and won’t happen. And don’t get me started on the staff at Chanel. The nicest staff I’ve encountered by far, is Dior. I just don’t shop there much. That being said, I LOVE your content and you are very hard working and thorough.

Sorry you got treated bad at LV and Chanel melissa. Its quite frustrating when that happens and we have all been through it at least once in our shopping experiences at these locations but I never disagreed with you so I am not sure why you are disagreeing with me… maybe there was a misunderstanding…
@melissac4698 Жыл бұрын
@@SuperDacob, I was not disagreeing with you. The only thing I disagreed with was the writer of the article saying the older ones are now rude to sales associates. Maybe I over reacted. It definitely depends on what LV store you go to. I live east coast and have gotten great service from multiple stores in the same state. I bought a canvas speedy and the SA was so attentive to me. Not all sales associates are helpful. But locations and people are different. I remember getting amazing customer service from the manager at one store. I thought he was a SA. He's SA's were okay but not amazing. Just depends.

Don't understand why people don't value these classy mature ladies as Betty with so much experience to share. I had an aunt that worked at the Plaza Hotel in NYC during the 50's late 80's. A conversation with her was like being transported in a Time Machine to that period of time 😊 so different from my time in every way. She had so much class from the way she moved to the way she spoke dress etc.. and always left me intrigued to know more about her experiences.... We can learn a lot from older generations, we shouldn't be dismissing elderly simply because they are "old".?

So true 😬 I'm 53 and when I go out shopping I see how people behave in the shops... A few years back the rudeness was more on the adolescents (you know... Rebellion faze) nowadays it doesn't matter the age, I see people almost double of my age doing things that I only look and say to myself "can't they have a bit of education and respect for the people around?" 😮 It's just sad to see 🤷🏼♀️

I also wonder if it's a "chicken or egg" type of scenario when it comes to the sameness in fashion. What I mean is as a Gen Xer we were all about being different and unique. My generation liked to push boundaries and be crazy, the last thing you wanted to be told was that you looked like someone else. It seems like what I see in younger generations is the desire to always fit in, to know what the trend is and follow it. Whether it's "logomania" or "quiet luxury", there is a lack of individuality. I especially see it in the luxury world with the desire to only buy classics out of fear that any other choice won't be worthwhile or a good "investment". This has led to a devaluation of anything different, and also an oversupply and price hikes of the classic bags.

This is so true. I remember when my mom bought her 1996 Chanel jumbo flap with 24k gold hardware the South Coast Plaza store. I was 15, I am 40 now but I still remember it. The experience was very eloquent. My dad called the store to make sure the item was there he told me just recently when I asked him about it as it was a gift for my mom. We came in the store, I remember sitting down bored. Someone gave me a toy of some sort as my mom were browsing. We were dressed up, not too many people in there. We were the only customers at the time. Maybe a couple in the jewelry section. Now, its just a bunch of Tiktokers documenting their shopping experience and all that. There is a HUGE line out front, and you can't even find an available SA in the weekends. Also, by the way, my mom still uses that bag til this day and had garnered much different stares and compliments from the older Chanel clientele and workers. Also, we go into that same exact store we've been going to the last couple decades. Currently, my mom has 5 chanel bags, 4 SLG's, 8 sunglasses and about 15 shoes. All from that same store!

And I don't work in retail but just the medical world the repercussions isn't the same as buying the wrong color purse for a person's wardrobe 😉. but all joking aside I always felt the rudeness was the penthouse up anxiety and anger of the stress of the world situation vented on staff. Sure simmering anger that then blasts onto them isn't their fault, and it isn't fair. What a great video! Thank you, Dacob! I especially liked your observation on sameness and trend. I study handbags and shoes design, and we are told to follow trends if we want to be "relevant" and make sales. It goes against my creativity and makes me question my decision to become a designer. I don't want to "create" based on trends. The reason I want to design handbags and shoes is because I have my own ideas and my own creativity. If someone wants to buy "trendy" stuff, then you are not my customer.

I wonder if the death of manners is also linked to the increase of tech. Before the internet manners were essential to get by as almost everything was face to face or via phone. Now we can do or say what we like without having contact with a human. So many exchanges don’t require manners, are we forgetting how to use them? Then again, I’m a huge introvert and avoid people as much as possible, but am always extremely polite 🤷🏼♀️

I think when luxury brands keep raising their prices, the customer feels more entitled, this create stress. Once i was in LV and a grown up man was crying out loud in the store about his vacation being ruined due to how slow LV could be on returning money when orders does not go through. I called LV service phone and said plain out i would make a police complaint if LV did not returned my money ( i waited 1 month) and asked in store and phone 2 times before mentioning the police. Money was returned quickly from LV after that. But i bet, had i taken an item valued 500 dollar and walked out of LV without paying, police would have been called in a moment.....i felt gross when the LV customer client hinted me to call again after 2 month if money was not returned. This ticked me off, i dont have the time to watch if LV does their payed job....for free *. *

Very good video. Very good topic. I agree with the lady in the article and with you as well. People have changed and their behaviour reflects the level of society and the current situation in the world. Unfortunately, it is getting worse every year. And fashion reflects this behaviour and translates it into so-called trends. Some high end brands produce so called trends that correspond to the behaviour of the majority of society, indifferent, arrogant, aggressive not only towards themselves but also towards other people. An example is the Balenciaga 2023 fashion show (a muddy - depressing fashion show). What kind of example in dress culture can such a show bring to younger people? Dacob, thank you for again a great topic.😘

Actually Dacob it’s not about the trend forecast it’s about the numbers ie if a certain shade of red is a good seller decision makers won’t approve a new shade until they see another brand did make a piece and now they want to substitute the red for fuschia. Forecasts are guidelines but the shackles are the numbers and non fashion decision makers that come from p&g or something.

people fail to understand that handbags are consolation prizes in luxury. unless for some 10 houses that started as leather houses - and lv, ready to wear is the real luxury, but people are not thin enough, rich enough, stylish enough to buy it. in couture houses, rtw is the consolation prize and bags are god knows what made by who knows who in italy, for a brand that has "paris" in the name. it makes sense financially - the bag should last - but to dream of, work a lot and save just to be fooled into thinking that you're part of something you're not is just cruel.

I think rudeness and complacency is, or rather, can be contagious. You're so right Dakob, people need to wake up.. and think for themselves instead of lazily mimicking what surrounds them or what they see on the screen. Be a leader, not a follower. I in no way have the means to buy luxury. (maybe someday) Regardless, I have always paid attention to the fashion world and loved clothes. I shop at places like Burlington sometimes. I visited my local store in the am to avoid the crowds and it looked like a tornado ripped through the aisles. the floors were carpeted with clothes! I'm not exaggerating. It was the worst I've ever seen it. It was an outrageous sight to behold I was disgusted. Why not put the piece back on the rack? How much effort does that really take? I mentioned the catastrophe I just waded through to the cashier and she looked bewildered. I then asked her, why do you think that happens? (trying to tap into her conscience) She said, she didn't know. lol
