Knowing someone has money is about their stress level. They’re usually more calm and quiet. If they drop their phone they don’t freak out when picking it up, if its cracked it’s no big deal. They just seem to float through situations with way less stress. I mean it is a true luxury to know if you’re in a car accident it’s not end of the world. You don’t have to worry about your insurance prices going up. You miss your flight, is well, just hand over the AMEX and get another ticket. It’s their easy, relaxed demeanor that exudes money.

Definately. Haven’t felt money related stress for years now and it’s good. It doesn’t matter if you spend it on 1 designer bags or 100 cheaper bags you don’t really need. It is the FOMO. Luxury brands realise they now they have a new customer base who will sell a kidney to get their products, regardless of how tacky or poorly made it is. So why not cut costs & increase profit. The majority of people I know with a designer bag now are only rich in debt.

You pay for the logo and you wear the logo which is advertising the brand… you are literally paying the brand to be able advertise for them… but it can be also seen this way: the brands deem certain price points of their products too low to warrant no logos… its like when you use the internet where some software or websites show ads unless you pay to remove the ads. Same applies to fashion: if you buy for example Chanel haute couture clothes, there will be no visible Chanel logo on the exterior of the garments but if you buy their pret a porter clothing range then you will always have visible logos on the exterior of the garments. In other words, you will pay that extra fee to get the exterior logos removed on the much higher priced haute couture garments. The joke is that even their pret a porter collections are also exorbitantly priced… 2k for a simple cotton T-shirt entry level pricing basically…

Luxury became fast fashion and is no longer special to me. There is nothing that makes me feel excited and inspires me to save for. LV is just so saturated and there are too many collections that it just turns me off. I’ve sold off some of my LV bags and turned to Fendi for the few items I’ve wanted and I think I’m done. Al these brands can keep their Richie rich influencers while I focus on just enjoying my poor person life😅

The days of seeing an item and saving for it have all but gone. If we don’t have the money to go there and then, it sells out or is quickly discontinued. That’s the fast fashion aspect. Buying something that you’ve been saving for is so rewarding and LV was good for that due to its classic lines but now, even those aren’t great to invest in due to poor quality.

I don’t mind some of the handbag ladies cause they seem to get real joy from an occasional new bag but these ladies on here who un box weekly and sometimes even more seem so sad to me. I think the look at me as I spend more money on bags is kinda pathetic. I did find out that one of them has a weight issue and “use” to be depressed because of it and got the gastric bypass…..clearly she is still depressed and self medicating by buying useless over priced bags. It’s just so cringe I had to stop watching her po thing. I actually feel sorry for her. You are right I was watching someone this week whose style I admire but then she said she paid 6K for a coat she just had to have and 5 minutes later she said she is saving to buy a house. I think she has it twisted. House first…clothes and bags third. Lately all the designer I buy has been vintage along with a few mid tier brands like Mulberry who make a quality bag. I want quality and not bags that will peel and flake after a few weeks. It is so sad what these conglomerates did to luxury fashion. Profits, and shareholders do not go hand in hand with creativity and quality or so it seems. But hey….now we have more $$ for travel! Keep doing what you do!

Thank you Cherise 🥰💖 the non creativity in particular is mind boggling to me too… I guess they really are pressed for safe sales and do not allow their designers to push the creative envelope because of fear that more editorial looks will not sell. But also because maybe they churn out so many collections a year that they do not have the time anymore to really dedicate themselves to new ideas… and instead they keep copy and pasting what has already been done so many times already. Problem is that with each new copy and paste the new copy is blander and more lackluster than the last one.

I’d never spend thousands on a handbag or shoes, etc. Not even hundreds would I spend. For these kinds of fashion trinkets: quiet luxury doesn’t have to be expensive. It needs only beautiful craftsmanship and finishing, refined proportions, gorgeous and well suited materials-and no visible logo. That’s it. I’d rather spend hundreds or those thousands on fragrance… and maybe just a little beauty in the box, too.

Dacob you are spot on, but this is no surprise to me whatsoever. I have always talked about how my first LV, the Speedy 25, was $365 when I bought it in 2002, and in 1998 I bought a Coach bag for $199. We’re talking a $165 price difference between the two brands in four years’ time. That’s telling. For all the people who got into luxury because of KZbin, stop being fooled into thinking that the luxury brands cost more because they are so special, or the quality is better. They raise prices because they are greedy and they can! Anyone who has been buying luxury for a time knows this. All you need to do is go back into your purchase history and see what you paid then vs prices now for the exact same items. I still buy luxury but I am very selective about the items that I buy. As for luxury sneakers, as someone with bad feet who needs a well constructed sneaker, I have asked friends if the LV or Gucci or Golden Goose have arch support, if the heel is stabilized, if the footbed is cushioned, and they can’t even answer yes to anything.

Yes so glad you touched on this Dawn! I remember LV Pouchette being $185 in 2003ish now that bag is what $1100! Dior mini saddles $200 now what $2000 for exact same bag. I remember LV keepall 45 was $525 in 2000s now its $2100 like this is same bag made for decades. Chanel flap was $2500 which was like WOAH in 2000s now it’s 10k and probably will be increased twice in 2024. Luxury fashion is banking on people new to the luxury universe who have no idea and just think price is justified

Luxury shopping isn't fun anymore when the price tag becomes ridiculously absurd. When it comes down to it, people prioritize needs and luxury items aren't really a necessity. They're just treats if you can afford it. Not like our salaries go up at the same rate as luxury prices. I've definitely slowed down a lot in the recent years on buying luxury because I have other priorities. I like nice things too, but if a bag that used to cost $2-3k is now $6k+....I really don't see the worth to spend double or triple the price. I also don't like how some companies try to upsell their products by making you buy a bunch of stuff you don't want just to qualify to get something you want...we all know which companies these are. Exclusivity has gone too far too. I want my hard earned money to be spent on something I really want and not deal with needing to beg or spending on other stuff I don't need just to prove that I deserve to buy the exclusive items. And those who end up in debt because of buying luxury items definitely need to think long and hard about what they're getting themselves into. Thanks for sharing!

TBH, there were people who thought it was dumb to buy the luxury products even when the quality was better and the prices were lower. The people who buy will always find a reason to justify the prices. I don't think it makes them look dumb. It just means that they have different priorities.

You are spot on!! 💯💯💯 Relating to the obscenely high prices, I would really LOVE to get your reaction to this unfolding drama - the whole price debacle with the new “LV Remix” denim line. I did a collection preview over on my channel last week, and in the responses I got - both publicly and privately - people were straight up ANGRY about how high these denim pieces were priced. All of the USD prices were confirmed by my personal CA and documented in the final lookbook for the collection. Then just YESTERDAY on the eve of pre-orders opening almost the entire collection was priced reduced!! On average, $100 - $150 per item (bags specifically). I’d really, really love to hear what you have to say about this. What are your thoughts on what this means and if maybe it’s a sign of brands finally waking up? It’s quite an unusual situation. Do you think they have learned a lesson??

I never worked in the fashion industry, but I love fashion to the extent that I like to style myself and make an effort to put myself together when I step out even if it isn't really the thing these days - at least in the US (don't get me started on how people dress these days). But I want to share an anecdote from the last month or so. I was in the market for a black coat. Since it's something that one buys and keeps and uses forever (at least that's how I look at it), I decided I would buy one that was a classic design and in cashmere (100%). My first step was to go to Burberry. Very disappointed with their selection and their prices and, btw, they don't make 100 percent cashmere anymore, though the price for one of their coats is around $4000. So I looked into other brands and discovered, pretty much across the board, that if I want to purchase a 100 percent cashmere coat, they're around $8000 USD. Now, about five years ago I did buy a 100 % cashmere coat (Burberry trench, in aubergine) for under $3000. My spidey senses told me that cost of materials and labor could NOT have gone up THAT much. I decided to call bullshit on these brands. You are ABSOLUTELY right about the prices and the "strategy" and don't get me started on puppets/whoas like Kalinic and her icky boyfriend. Anyway, I ended up buying a beautiful black shearling, long line coat, double breasted from an Italian furrier named Blancha at a fraction of the price of what I would have paid for a cashmere coat. Over the moon with my purchase and a small pat on my back because 1) I didn't fall for the bullshit and 2) supported an Italian brand 3) Did not skimp on quality or design.

I have a couple of bags and I was going to save for a third one but I have changed my mind....I frankly just can't afford it to be honest. I will stick with contemporary brands going forward. The prices have increased but the quality has not. There have been tons of layoffs in the U.S. and I do worry about losing my job. Now is not the time to splurge on big ticket items. Luxury brands thrive on that: you want to feel special, rich, famous, one of a kind then buy and wear XYZ bag, clothes, shoes or accesorios. All of these multi billion dollar companies have share holders. These companies MUST show an increased profit EVERY quarter or risk being viewed as a failure and the possible stock sell off. These companies have been increasing prices to the point of unaffordability to most people to keep shareholders happy. I don’t know how much further these companies can go with insane profits before they hit the wall. And it’s not just LV and Dior. Its grocery items. Cars. Homes. There’s got to be a breaking point somewhere.

You are so bright Dacob and incredibly perceptive. I am enjoying your vlogs very much. I have exactly two luxury bags (both from Celine) and they both serve very different purposes. In the future, I will purchase one last bag before I call it a day and that bag will come from Joseph Duclos. They are expensive but the craftsmanship is amazing. All the bags are handmade and the quality is second to none. Joseph Duclos has exactly one boutique and it’s located in Paris. There’s no hype surrounding the brand and in fact, I have seen zero content creators unbox anything from them. In my mind, this is true luxury.

I had a horrible customer service experience with Dior. I bought a bag on May 2023, and it came with the wrong strap. 7 months have gone by, and every month they say "next month we will have it and send it to you". ZARA HAS BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE. There are still some brands that I like to buy from due to their excellent customer service, prices, and designs (Moschino, Versace, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Kenzo).

LVMH and Kering (Gucci Group) really did a number on the biggest fashion houses, We can see the quality difference in 2 decades, Gucci and LV used to have 75 stores globally now its in the hundreds. Now add in their smaller brands Lowe, Valentino,etc way more then you ever saw in life. Now Zegna wants to DOUBLE Tom Ford locations! You used to have to make special trips if you didn’t live in huge metro now they are in so many cities their locations dont have the same prestige they used to. Men really get screwed the worst by luxury fashion because so many tacky new money guys will literally buy sweatpants,tshirts,sneakers with designer name slapped on it. This has all caused me to seek out small luxury brands who arent known and still give quality which funny are lower priced and much better quality then legacy fashion brands

What an excellent video Dacob! The high end luxury price tags have become ridiculous, while as you describe, the quality or most of the time even the designs do not justify them. I am very happy to have my LV and Chanel collections... I don't even like most of the new items they come out with... not to speak of the astronomic prices!

The commission part is not totally true. It all depends which products you purchase. Some do bring in commission while others don’t and these commissions also depend on which boutique you purchase in… if its company owned or a franchise of sorts.

Dacob, you hit so many nails on the head in this video. Ever since March 2020, I've had the luxury of working from home, so I just haven't been buying as many luxury goods since. I'm more into doing upgrades to my home, growing my stock portfolio, buying luxury lounge wear, such as pajamas, sweats and sneakers, travel, go on fun adventures with friends and spoil myself with luxury dining at home. I still haven't worn all the designer clothing, silk dresses and cashmere sweaters I bought in 2020, thinking I would soon return to the workplace.

I’m actually glad now that the prices are high because there’s no way I’ll buy at the current price. So, I ended up with a small collection of bags but I haven’t paid this the current prices. In a way it ends up helping many of us because we won’t pay a ridiculous price. The game is over. We just have to learn to enjoy what we have , which is a good thing. It helps us reflect on our shopping habits. I think the latest price increases are backfiring for the brands. The stores are almost empty, even though they pretend to make you wait outside, at least in the city I live.

Dacob, I genuinely haven’t had a desire to purchase any luxury goods in almost a year. The pieces I have are wonderful quality because they are vintage pieces made before the companies threw quality and attention to detail out the window. Clothing, bags, wallets, etc. With the exception of a particular vintage brooch that I want to add to my collection, I feel like I’m done. Unless someone comes out with something really amazing, unique, that speaks to my spirit and is of excellent quality, I have everything I need and want. FYI, I’ve returned to having clothing made for me by a seamstress and I love it!

@@SuperDacob It's one of the few treats that I give myself after working a hard and stressful job. I just wish it were as common here in the USA as it is overseas. Based on the number of seamstresses available in my area, it seems to be a dying profession/art. Same with shoe cobblers. If you want something unique and of great quality just go to a good seamstress. I'm sure I'm not using the right term but I'm a southern girl and not a fashion expert like you are lol. Some of the best dresses, suits and pants, I have ever owned resulted from just giving her a idea of what item I want, the use or wear (formal work, formal event, daily work, etc.) a cut/style that I know is complementary for my build and then just letting her do her thing. Since she knows the types of colors I like its really fun. The creativity and attention to detail is amazing. They are underappreciated. She appreciates me basically giving her a few parameters but trusting her judgement and I just enjoy seeing the things she creates!

Si, estoy totalmente de acuerdo con tigo, la industria del " luxo", nos lava el cerebro, para asegurarnos q comprando tooodos sus bolsos lentes ropa y zapatos, automáticamente entras en el sitio de los " escogidos" de la sociedad. Si no tienes un chanel o Louis Vuitton o Hermes.......no estas a la altura de los afortunados de esta vida. En fin, cada uno gasta su plata en lo q quiere, si. Pero, mientras nosotros gastamos una fortuna en objetos de luxo, los dueños de esas impresas se ríen de nosotros y juegan con nuestros complejos, llenando sus cuentas bancarias cada vez más . Ellos son " la élite " del mundo, y nosotros solo somos los consumidores de sus productos y los q los enriquecen. Tu video no solo es bueno, como para curiosidad, si no, es bueno u necesario para analizar toda esa situación, en el plano consciente. Gracias! Ha ha Dacob, its like my husband’s speech 😳🤪😂😝 its so true, even i dont jump on every new it item, i still need some work to do on myself. Well i did re evaluated my makeup buying, this year, and did purchase much less. Also i got into nice investment, and promissed my hubby, to save most of money first, and splurge just 10-15% of profits😳, hopefully i will 😅 also i stopped buying just as soon as collection comes out, with the exception, if something i really love, it would fit my lifestyle/ pay off. I better buy on resale markets, where so many buy for those crazy prices, and never wear, and then i can buy 30-60% of original price. I dont care for it item, well very rarely, unless its so me…, and i love my items, my bags, my RTW, i wear. I dont care if its last season, or its a decade ago pieče, if i love i wear. But i see what is going on. Brands know that this is over as you said, thats why they try to get as much money as they can… because once the new quantum system replace this corrupted rotten system, its all new world is going to be. Gold backed currency, no more inflation. Prices probably going to be brought back as it was in 50’s or so. Banks will not be able to play their game, they will must to have assets, thats why everyone knows its over, and thats why its chaos prices rising, closing banknaccounts, holding ppl money, its all going to end ….. There will always be lux lovers and the price tag will always determine luxury. It's crazy that even a non-heritage lux brand like Phoebe Philo would put a ridiculous price tag that's way higher than Chanel,Hermes and LV. I heard that even Polene took advantage of its popularity that customer service is compromised to cope globally. Any brand will take advantage of the demand I believe so us buyers play a big factor in this equation. There's too much judgment for us lux lovers already, I think it's better to encourage fellow lux lovers to handle Fomo, how to slow down and be mindful of purchases instead of making fun of them for buying lux shoes bec it looks stupid. Non lux-lovers will never understand why we buy these stuff even though it's not their money and it's not their business.

Yep. Fast fashion is anything but special. No imagination, no fun, and completely agree. NO innovation. So now, unaffordable fast fashion. This makes it far worse than Zara, imho. Plus, still ZERO transparency about how the lux companies treat the people who make ALLL this stuff. I still love the hunt for the affordable, and durable, beautiful, vintage stuff. It's fun.
