This movie made me side with its villain. Stormella has every right to be pissed off and not let the people who destroyed her property use her bridge. Especially when Santa doesn’t punish the two responsible in any way or make them apologize to her for it
@kenthuang436
@kenthuang436 Жыл бұрын
And she did say exactly what she would do if anyone used her bridge and followed through with it and it really wasn’t even that bad tbh since all she did was cause a bad snowstorm in which literally no one would get hurt since everyone would be stuck inside where it was nice and warm.

Darn it I just came up instantly with a better way to warm Stormella's heart with Rudolph's wish Have him, instead of thwarting her plan or something selfish for himself or simply for her to change alignment and personality, wish that her ice statues weren't smashed. Touched that even after getting a wish out of saving her life he goes even farther to _give_ to her, the true meaning of Christmas comes to her heart (forcing it to grow three sizes).

SuperFanboy101 I could never understand why that song was popular. It must of just been the message behind it, because Yokos screeching and the off key kids singing chorus makes it so annoying and insufferable. And to hear John sing the same line over over while his wife unbearably screeched in the background isn't my pick for a "inspriational" Christmas song. Ugh. Also what the hell does war have to do with Christmas?! I'd rather listen to Micheal Buble sing every Christmas song off beat than to hear that propaganda disgused as a Christmas song at least Buble has a very nice toleratable voice. Other Beatles fans may love it, but honestly I don't.

I liked John Goodman's performance in Monsters University (I haven't watched Monsters Inc. yet, that's on my list), and thought Goodman was the best thing about the "Rosanne" reboot. But this film was a waste of Goodman's talents. And proof that contrary to popular belief, it is possible to insult a modern kid's intelligence. As for "Wonderful Christmastime", I kind of like the song in a cheesy kind of way. But John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Merry Christmas (War is Over)" is a way better song.

You know, to me the worst thing about "Wonderful Christmastime" IS the fact that an ex-Beatle wrote it. I mean, this is the man who wrote "Yesterday," "Blackbird," "Eleanor Rigby" and "Let It Be"...we KNOW he's capable of better! When you put this up against John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)", it reinforces some pretty unfortunate stereotypes about who was the genius in the Beatles.

I was just thinking this the other day - looking at everything McCartney, Ringo, and George were famous for after they went solo (e.g. anything by Wings especially "Jet"), I'm forced to conclude that Lennon was the only thing holding it all together intellectually. What's really horrible is that McCartney combined incredibly catchy music with absolute nonsense that's impossible to get out of your head.

As Phelous said "Wait to go, Rudolph, you red-nosed f***up". A logical wish would be that Santa makes it through the storm safely. But that wouldn't pave the way to you-know-what, would it? Even as a child I didn't like this movie. By the point of A Wonderful Christmas Time, I loathed it. It was my first exposure to the song. Stormella's face turn was beyond disappointing. I groaned at how she as just suddenly an okay person from a wish. A very wasted magical favor. It showed them that children had a sense of quality they expected as well and could only tolerate so much bullshit.

I really didn’t think Stormella was that bad of a person. I mean sure she was cold and distant but seemed rather reasonable and like she was a very lovely person once you got to know her. Literally everyone kept judging her unfairly just because she had winter powers and demanded that the elves that destroyed her property be turned over to her to be punished which was probably only going to be making them clean up the mess and pay for the damages which isn’t evil and holding Zoey prisoner which Stormella said she would do if anyone used the bridge and even then the snowstorm wasn’t going to actually hurt anyone as they’d all be indoors during the blizzard where it was nice and warm and full of sweets to eat and spend time with each other as the storm would have ended on its own which would probably be a few hours as Stormella never said that it was going to be a permanent storm. She did exactly what she said she would do and was just teaching everyone that there are consequences for their bad behavior. You can’t blame her for hating Santa and the others because of how they kept acting and basically rewarding bad behavior and property damage.

Want to know the worst part of Santa's song? John Goodman actually CAN sing. He has quite a pleasing baritone if used properly. I'm not even kidding, just listen to the opening theme from the short-lived DreamWorks show "Father of The Pride". But this is... Just... Why? ;_;

[And now, a viable rewrite of the dialogue leading into sin 7.] Stormella: Phew, thanks for saving me Rudolph. I owe you one. Literally. Rudolph: Really? Stormella: Yeah, it's part of the rules tied to my powers. I gotta grant one wish to any goody two-shoes that saves my life. So, what'll it be? Want a normal nose? Rudolph: Thanks for the offer, but I'm too used to it by this point. And I've learned to control the glow, so it only works when I want it to. And as much as I'd like to stop the blizzard and the trouble it's causing, I don't know if that would stop you from casting another one later. Stormella: Just as well. Making this one took so much power that I couldn't turn it off even if I wanted to. Rudolph: Wow, I didn't realize your grudge against Santa was that serious. I mean, what if your butler or wolves got hurt because of the blizzard? (gets an idea) Stormella, I'd like to use that wish to have you find a better outlet for your grudges. One that doesn't mess with folks not responsible.
@kenthuang436

Actually no one would be hurt by the blizzard because they’d all be inside where it was nice and warm. If anything that storm wouldn’t have made everyone get to know each other better and have a good time hanging out with friends and loved ones. Which isn’t actually evil and is a really nice thing to do when you think about it.

Grew up with this movie. It came out when I was a toddler and honestly I loved it. I agree with most of your criticisms though except Wonderful Christmastime. This movie was my first exposure to the song and for some reason, it isn't heard nearly as much as other songs over here... at least, in my area. I reckon its an American thing? Because all other British people I've spoke to enjoy the song, but it seems Americans hate it. But it might be the over exposure causing so much hatred? At least we don't have Christmas Shoes or Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer over here. We do, however, have Fairytale of New York and I'm sorry, but it's just so depressing to listen to... and I find little enjoyment for things that utilises the insult "faggot". I'm surprised it's still played as often as it is in this day and age.

Bit of trivia I came across. Stormella actually DID have motivation at one point. Some deleted script material that never made it into the movie says that she hates Santa Claus because centuries ago, she was in love with him, but he chose the current Mrs. Claus over her. A bit ordinary, but certainly not a bad motivation. I can’t understand why they cut it out
@kenthuang436
@kenthuang436 Жыл бұрын
I like to think her current motivation for hating Santa is because he never punishes anyone who does something wrong and just rewarding others for bad behavior. Stormella wanted to punish the elves that destroyed her property because they did something wrong and needed to be taught a lesson. She didn’t do anything that she never said she was going to do if anyone disobeyed her wishes, the blizzard was going to end by itself anyway and she never said it was permanent, and everyone just judged her as being “evil” which would make someone hate everyone else even more. Even when she held Zoey prisoner, Stormella explained that Zoey did something wrong by using the bridge even though Stormella said no one would be able to use it and just carrying out what she said she was going to do and the cell actually looked rather large and cozy and Zoey was in no real danger as she was still warm and not being tortured or abused in anyway. Zoey wasn’t even tied up or chained to the wall and had full mobility. If Stormella was “evil” then she would have threatened to kill Zoey and tortured her for fun.
@SitaraAleu
@SitaraAleu Жыл бұрын
@@kenthuang436 That’s a really good point. All Stormella wanted was accountability. Santa probably could’ve negotiated some punishment labor for those two dingbats and she might very well have agreed to it. This whole movie could’ve been over before it even began. 🤣🤦‍♀️
@kenthuang436
@kenthuang436 Жыл бұрын
@@SitaraAleuExactly. Stormella was literally the one character in the entire movie that wanted to show that not following the rules someone gives you will have consequences and even if those rules seem ridiculous, there must be a reason why they were made in the first place. Running around with scissors sounds strange to small children but if you do it, you could trip and fall on top of them and even possibly end up killing yourself. All Santa did was reward awful behavior.

John Goodman is a good singer in my opinion. I'd rather listen to him than the cheap sounding chorus that sings in the background of most of these songs. Aside from that, though, this movie is......eh. I don't hate it, but I can't look past its flaws. The animation is definitely awkward. The songs are pretty cheesy. The only things that made me like this movie were Santa and Rudolph. Santa is really nice, and is voiced by John Goodman, who's one of my favorite actors. As for Rudolph, I can feel sorry for him and I think he's precious. That's it, though. The rest of this movie is mediocre at best. :/

Those fairies gave me more of a Muses from Hercules vibe than the Disney fairies. They interrupt the story for narration and musical numbers. However, with the Muses, it was a homage to Greek theatre where there would be narrator characters of characters who would just stop the story to talk to the audience. Basically breaking the fourth wall. So that is part of the style of the film. As for the fairies in this movie, they are pointless and serve no purpose but to deliver some pretentious info to Rudolph.
