A Beast, I might add, that was 10x kinder, 10x more empathetic, and 10x less toxic than Adam was being in both of these midquels combined. 👏 True story: He even has a line in his welcoming speech to Anastasia (the Beauty) that I'm convinced was directed towards the Disney version: "I welcome you here, not as a guest, but as an *equal!"* 😊

@DJtheBlack-RibbonedRose3 жыл бұрын
No. See, while the rest of the cast (save for Angela Lansbury) had to waste their talents on Hell's Tragical World in early 1998, Tim Curry meanwhile was reincarnated from Forte into a sad but sweet Russian Yeti Man Beast who in fact *hated* being alone, got upset when *his* *own* magical flower was stolen, & nearly dies in the end *because* of a (seemingly) broken promise. And regarding NC's line of "I didn't even get to make a Pennywise joke," Tim's love interest, the Beauty, was played by Amy Irving. In other words, Sue Snell from the original Carrie. 😉😆😏

I gotta say, it was pretty weird to see the prince not like getting a book as a gift. Given the time period when this story is supposed to take place a book would be a pretty valuable item, what with the printing press being a relatively new thing. Plus he's a prince, he's RICH, a book is pretty much the only thing you CAN get him as a gift. He could easily buy or likely already has almost any material thing you could possibly think of, so the only new experience you can give him is whatever story is in that book.

The biggest issue with this movie is that it doesn't fit with the continuity where the Beast is getting better. I think it would fit where Beast and Belle are having a nice time in the library and maybe spend some time outside where Belle realizes it's the day before or even the week of Christmas. And Beast being the person he is would try to evade it because Christmas is too touchy for him, but Belle being the good influence would understand why but then brings up memories of her father and Christmas. The making snow angel parts would still be there but instead of getting angry he would just be self-conscious and leave to go back to his room. From there you still have forte trying to break them up, but this time it's not only one sided that Belle wants to bring back Christmas but both want to. But Beast needs to realize he doesn't want to be held by his insecurities and self-hatred. They both could be making their plans in secret, while trying to keep it in secret. Belle could still go to the woods in secret, but Beast still finds out and he could go to rescue her because he feels guilty she is doing this for him. Belle still gets in trouble but instead of being put in the dungeon it would be in her room where she's getting healed. And Beast calls off Christmas because he thinks him giving into unbanning his Christmas harmed Belle. He then gives into his self-hatred after almost seeing the woman he loves almost get herself killed he then stops when he sees the story. And again stops listening to Forte. And course the climax goes as well. Also I think they should have done more research into how they celebrated Christmas in the 17th century in France.

My problem with this movie is how it handled Belle's interactions with the Beast from the original movie. First, she never tried to make him do things he didn't want to do. She compromised with him. Second, if the Beast was acting like a jerk, she responds in kind. When he's being nice, she responds in kind. She treats him fairly. (Yes I stole that from Lindsay Ellis.) Third, when they grew closer together it was both of them working at it. Here, it was Belle doing all the work. This movie completely changed the dynamic Belle had with the Beast and made it worse. Especially with the Beast locking her in a dungeon and Belle just accepting it. That's out of character for both of them.
@NachoCheeseDorito-Kun Жыл бұрын
Precisely. Appreciate the Ellis shout out because the misunderstanding of their dynamic is a struggle the other sequel AND the remake have. In this, their relationship radildly switched from "You start shit and I'll CONTINUE shit" to "I can Fix Him."

I always found Forte a better villain than Gaston. The later was just a self-centered egotistical and potential abusive husband hellbent on dating the ONE girl that wanted nothing with him while Forte had this delusional attachment to his master and prefered to sacrifice his humanity to not lose the one who appreciated his skills, even if often it felt like he was the beast's "confort food" musician. Plus while Tim Curry is always a delight as a villain, the brazilian dub gave Forte such deep, booming voice and it always echoed as well, so he really felt like a much bigger threat compared to Gaston. Although I always hate the "bolted to the wall" because thats not how organs work :P Forte would be more like a tree rooted within the very walls and floor of his room since he would need a bigass air pump to work. He would never be able to fall like that.
@Noelle-h6f Жыл бұрын
That's a really oversimplification of Gaston's character.
@johnnysparkle3 жыл бұрын
What Could Have Been: It was originally meant to be a straight-up sequel, with Gaston's brother Avenant (a Shout-Out to the 1946 film of the fairy tale) as the antagonist intent on avenging Gaston's death and ruining the lovers' lives. It was changed to a midquel and Avenant was scrapped, his role instead given to the pipe organ when the filmmakers thought the audience would be more interested in the Beast than the Prince.

I've never seen this, but I could definitely argue that, as a holiday special, they really made it fit organically in to the canon of the first film because, iirc, they didn't really go in depth on the finer details of the curse; far as I can tell, they just said something to the effect of "It just kinda happened one night." I don't think they specified when, so the direction the narrative took works, imo. Also, yeah, as a fan of transformation, I can get behind Forte's motivation: he's not just evil for evil's sake...there's more of a concrete reason WHY he's so evil here and it makes him feel like he'd belong in Disney's classic rogue's gallery of great villains. Course...that being said...WHY WAS THIS DUDE NOT A BOSS FIGHT IN A KINGDOM HEARTS GAME!? We have a literal Kingdom Hearts RHYTHM title, for chrissake! We got to fight a freaking DOOR (which is honestly one of the better fights in the second game), but not a silver-tongued, magically-imbued Tim Curry Pipe Organ!? WTF, NOMURA!? O.o Ya know, btw, considering the context of the castle's denizens, Forte's death is actually kinda gruesome when you think about it; seriously, what would YOU consider the keyboard to a pipe organ be to the human body? To me, that sounds like Beast effectively just went the Crimson Eagle route! For a villain death, that's pretty freaking metal! O.O

You know, maybe I was a weird kid, but for some reason when she made the Snow Angel and he looked down, I always thought when he looked at the silhouettes and said "that's no angle, that's a monster" he was referring to her "angel" and how it reminded him of the Enchantress. I mean, it seems obvious now that you say it, this is just another case of him feeding into his self loathing but I always found the comment interesting that he'd see both the "angel" and "monster" next to each other and this be a foreshadow to his PTSD we see later in the full flashback

Aside from Tim Curry's Organ... er, Tim Curry AS an Organ, two things this sequel does well to supplement the original is: 1) Pretty solidly establish that a LOT more time has passed than the 3-4 days we can see on screen. 2) Confirm the Prince wasn't a prebubescent child when he was cursed.
