That is why the only late night shows Prince did were The Chris Rock Show, Arsenio Hall, and George Lopez, because they featured black and latino celebrities that Leno/Letterman/Kimmel/Conan/Fallon would never showcase.

I always thought Arsenio deserved more credit also. Back in the day when Eddie and others was blowing it up with filthy jokes Arsenio was the bit cleaner version and when it comes down to being a talk show host .I think he was one of the very best.
@BDPNupe
@BDPNupe 4 жыл бұрын
@@onelasttry2285 He still is. The challenge is that when they brought him back, they tried to do the same show which is currently being done by the top rated late night talk show hosts particularly Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers to a lesser degree.
@onelasttry2285
@onelasttry2285 4 жыл бұрын
@@BDPNupe I remember they did give him another show which was nowhere near as successful as the first but in my opinion he was up there with Carson and Letterman back in the day. Actually I preferred him over both. What I really liked about him was the fact he was more suggestive in his comedy than just filthy. Pryor ,Murphy and many others was just down right dirty back in the day and I really think Murphy may be headed back in that direction now that he has finished his contract with Disney. Kinda hate that but it sure would be awesome to see the old Eddie do his thing a few more times.

I met RRM in Vegas at Arizona Charlie's, about '93 -'94 while at a boxing match. He was back in the dressing room area just walking through and he walked right up to me (I train fighters) and my mouth just dropped open with surprise. 😮 I told him "Mannnn my roommate and I used to study to your records in College; and we learned more about the real world listening to you than any one teacher that ever taught there!" We laughed and shook hands. I couldn't wait to tell my boy from school that I had just spoke to one of the greatest ever. He and I knew all of RRM'S raps by heart and could spit them out at anytime requested. The second time I saw him another friend from Vegas and I were driving West on Tropicana and he drove up right next to us in a late model Oldsmobile or Buick it looked like. I just looked over but didn't try and get his attention this time. He wasn't looking as good as before I should add. Shortly after that, in less than a year, I heard he had passed away. It was a sad day for me and many others I am sure. RIP my Brother! 🧡

It been a really interesting getting to know the side of him i never got to hear about.... also I was at his funreal at least one we did as a family... and I got to meet Jimmy, he preformed..it was a real entertaing service, let me tell you

I don't know if you will get to read my message, but if you do I just want to let you know It is so cool to see a relative of this incredible legend. His films were raw, uncut, and unapologetic which made them unique classics. I saw both Dolemite and The Human Tornado in the theatres as a youth and my mind was blown, so now owning them on DVD is a treat for me to this day. I'm glad Eddie Murphy decided to do a tribute film after all these years. In Eddie's movie, there was a scene in which he told someone that he (as Rudy) wore a wig during his performances and movies. Did your great uncle really wear a wig in those days? I would love to know. I always thought his hair was natural in his movies. 😊Anyway, I hope you will get to read this message. Peace and Blessing to you and your family. 🙏🏽

He said Rudy was very hurt that Eddie never "called him" - I guess for like movies (Harlem Nights, Coming to America, etc) and stuff or to show respect. Even though neither movie had EVERY pioneering black comedian in it 🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️ it's still nice to see that he actually did have an appreciation of his work.

I love being shocked by something I knew nothing about. Literally just took a shot and watched "Dolemite Is My Name" not knowing anything about it. I'd never heard about Rudy Ray Moore before and watching Eddie Murphy do his thing with this character was fascinating. This was obviously a passion project for him considering what they say in this video with Eddie Murphy would watch these movies. A movie like this could be very silly, but it was handled brilliantly. Amazing the kind of content Netflix puts out. Honestly Eddie Murphy should be nominated for this movie, but I'm not sure if he qualifies without having a theatrical release. If he doesn't get recognized it will have been a shame. So Joaquin Phoenix in Joker and Eddie Murphy in this movie are my top two performances this year and The Irishman hasn't even come out yet. Netflix is making MOVES this year.

BRO!!!!! Well said! Joker was fucking AMAZING one of the illest movies I seen in a long time and DOLOMITE man! Eddie Murphy killed this role and definitely gave me a newfound admiration and respect for a guy I had heard about but it was before my time so I didn't quite get the hype but I get it now! Eddie and the co-actors did an awesome job and should get nomiated right along with Joaquin

I worked at a video store from 1990-93. It was a small chain in East Tampa of only 4 stores but they had a ton of exploitation/blacksploitation movies and my uncle told me about Dolemite. He told me to look up whatever movies of RRM we had and watch them. I did and became a fan and then he loaned me his RRM party albums. Mind you, these movies and albums were already a couple of decades old by the time I heard them. The albums weren’t sold commercially. You had to look for them in certain retailers because the material was hard core. He was right. All the rappers from Sugar Hill Gang to Jay-Z better know damn well that this man is the one and only. The Godfather of rap in the truest and most uncensored form. All Hail Dolemite!

Don't try to re-write history, fool. RR was relatively small then in terms came across of the whole country and even smaller as time went on because he was a caricature that only appealed to certain black people and certain whites who found blackspoitation stuff amusing. People like Pryor, Murphy, etc, brought something that the ENTIRE country could enjoy.

As a kid my uncles would listen to Rudy Ray Moore and I would sneak and listen. I would rehearse the signifying monkey routine. I believed Eddie admired him even if he never told home. You can see him pay homage to Rudy at the beginning of Raw when he does the routine (signifying monkey) as a child memory in front of his family. The rappers know and they always gave him credit for helping to create the art form. As with life its not always the people that lay the foundation that get the spoils of their work unfortunately. Go look at some of the movies they are funny and unique in a way only he could pull off. I think Eddie did good in capturing his spirit in the netflix film.
