Glad to see another rock musician speaking kindly about Yngwie. He and Rudy are super talented players. Would love to have seen Yngwie when Rudy was in the band! However, I did see Yngwie, and he gave me a handful of his extra-thick white guitar picks that have his name on them. He didn't THROW them to me either... he actually handed them to me! I though he was very nice, and he definitely put on a great show that night.

I met Malmsteen after a show in Ohio back in the 80s and I said you've got a killer band sir , and I have never seen anyone play the guitar like you just did. wattage2007 Yeah man. Rudy Sarzo is an anomaly in the realm of rock and metal musicians. There is zero pretentiousness or ego with him. A sweetheart of a guy that I don’t think I’ve ever heard him shit talk anybody. And I’ve never heard anyone shit talk him. There’s a reason he’s probably the biggest in demand bassists in rock and metal and has played with just about everybody. He has a great work ethic, one of the hardest workers. So easy to work with, and only adds to the value of anyone he works with. And he’s sober. Musicians would be well served to model themselves after him.

It's interesting how many different accounts people have of encountering Yngwie, in respect to his attitude. An acquaintance met him at a gas station around the same time (also in the valley), and said he was an asshole. Of course, we weren't there, so it's all open to interpretation. Regardless, it's great to hear Rudy's experience putting Yngwie in a very positive light. Amazing talent - just like Van Halen and other originators, his imitators learn the notes but very rarely capture that same amazing FEEL that they have.

Without hesitating, he said, "Randy Rhoads. Definitely Randy Rhoads. With Randy, it was always about the music first. He was a musician's musician. The money, the fame, the women, that all came after the music." I asked, "What about Malmsteen?" He laughed, "Oh, I don't want to talk about Malmsteen."

Una de las razones porque Rudy tenia tanta demanda como un tocador del Bajo pero tambien como Sideman es haber sido parte de dos leyendas Randy y Ozzy. It's the Sarzo's and players with money that would never consider it because they don't look at guitars like peon hacks do. It's a tool to them and they know there's nothing beneficial or logical about paying that much for a guitar...not when they can have one made, the way the like, that will put that production line ($300 back in it's day) guitar to shame for essentially free.

Yngwie is so underrated as a bass guitar, unlike his guitar playing where he is overrated. Whatever he is a pioneer in both instruments. I was moved back in the 80s, in how Yngwie played the bass, not because of the speed but of the outrageously strong and beautiful vibratos on a "fretted bass".

I heard Eddie Van Halen did most of the bass work on all VH albums.

God said, "I will make a bass player. He will play with the greatest singers, guitarists and bassists, in multiple bands, have incredible stories to tell - all of which will eventually be in the rock-n-roll hall of fame AND I will give him HAIR of a 17 year old boy for life! He will be named RUDY!" And it was done. I have met Malmsteen 2x and he is actually very funny.
