The whole time I was just feeling bad for Gia. She doesn’t deserve to go through all of this trauma at such a young age :/
@mikayladanielle

I feel like anything in her life takes a backseat to what’s happening to Rue. And her mom seems to put a lot of responsibility on her to take care of Rue. I know they’re sisters and this may sound harsh, but it is not Gia’s responsibility to monitor Rue. Her mom got so mad at Gia when she thought she knew about Rue doing heavy drugs (even though she didn’t know), even though Rue had obviously been acting suspicious for weeks. And when that scene came up where Leslie told Gia to help get off her phone and help her look for Rue while they were driving, I really felt for her because I can tell she feels like she always has to focus on her drug addict sister. That’s too much for a child to handle.

I don't think it was downplayed, it was more so realistic. Maddy's not going to directly assault Cassie in her family's house while her sister and mother are right next to her. On top of that Rue's situation was unravelling and other witnesses were present. Maddy had to refrain herself as much as possible, (obviously afterwards she let it all out and chased her). If anything Cassie was very lucky that Maddy found out in this exact setting, as it slightly mitigated the consequences (but we'll see shit hit the fan on the next episode per the trailer). Also when your BF betrays you, you're in such disbelief that you can't even express your anger properly.

Oh no baby it is that deep.. Laurie even said when she was going through withdrawals she would do anything to get more drugs and she said it's good they're women because they have something else people want. Laurie purposefully gave Rue intravenous morphine bc she wants her hooked on the needle and she'll come and do anything for Laurie to get a fix so ya Laurie was deff ready to pimp rue out... Prayers to my girl for the rest of this season bc Laurie gonna want that money back soon.

That’s what I was thinking. She was trying to create a space where Rue felt safe to come back and also wanted to get her hooked on IV use. That’s why she woke up fully clothed in a room all alone. Once addicts start doing IV, it’s game over.

It isn't even something you need to "read into" as something "deep". It was made pretty obvious. "You don't look like someone who will come up with money soon" on top of the "as a woman, you'll always have something people want" line. Laurie is a business-minded criminal with no conscience, and the writers even spell that out obviously for the audience, that she's a psychopath with no conscience (no anger, no emotions). She administered morphine through her veins (a far more addictive way of using compared to ingestion or snorting). This is the most typical way to own sex slaves. Laurie was in the process of turning Rue into a sex slave, and it wasn't "something deep" to read into. Rue just narrowly escaped that fate.

The Laurie scene is frightening. For people not reading between the lines, she’s not helping Rue. She wants to sell her. Everything she’s said has been a hint to what her intentions are. Rue’s extremely vulnerable and in a lot of pain. The pain of withdrawal is like living hell. That’s why it’s so hard to get clean, you don’t just get a little sick, you feel like your skin is on fire and your being twisted from the inside out. You will do ANYTHING to get relief from that pain. Laurie is basically telling Rue that she no longer feels emotion, which is how she’s able to be a predator. She doesn’t feel guilt anymore. Laurie plays sweet but she’s purposely turning Rue into an IV drug user. She’s cleaning her up and telling her as a woman she still has something people want. She also tells Rue you aren’t in a state of mind where you are going to go make my money for me. Everything Laurie is doing points to one thing, she’s going to keep Rue high and sell her. I promise the day Rue came to her with the plan she knew Rue would mess up. When she said that she knew that first night they’d be in each other’s lives for awhile she had plans for Rue. Although Rue escaped, that’s too easy. I still think Laurie is going to get to get to her.

I didn’t think about how Laurie would want to sell Rue but, she did tell Rue she would sell her to some bad people if Rue didn’t give her her money 🤔. I was reading between the lines too, never trust a drug dealer and I guess never trust a drug addict 😅

THIS. THIS IS THE COMMENT 📢 It blows my mind that people thought Lori was trying to help Rue, when she blatantly told Rue, you can still sell your body. Lori lied about having pills while getting the morphine out, held Rue captive (like the birds- that’s why they kept showing shots of them, guys);; Rue going to Lori after everything this episode is supposed to show Rue at her lowest point. It’s not Rue finding someone she can trust, it’s someone who truly doesn’t care about her.

She is not a bad person. If people are judging her while using and abusing drugs, understand that that is not her true character. People turn into something they don't recognize and do things they would never do if sober. And it doesn't matter is she is high at the moment or not, she is addicted. DRUG ADDICTION IS A DISEASE, it would be like saying that a person with alzheimer's disease or schizophrenia is a bad person. Their brain is literally not working as it should. They need to be stable in order to show their true self. This whole episode (maybe season) was the drugs talking, not Rue. She needs help, not judgement.
@NyikoDoris

I mean can you truly blame her mother for calling her a bad person? All Leslie tries to do is help and support her an offer whatever tools she can and all Rue does is yell at her and call her terrible things and break things in her house and gaslight her little sister, obviously at some point she’s going to start to believe that maybe this is just who her child does now. For the rest of us as viewers there is sympathy but I think we can be angry and disappointed in Rue and still not villainize or make fun of the illness that is addiction and I think that’s a balance a lot of people are yet to find

@@NyikoDoris exactly, i feel alot of sympathy for everyone bc they have so much trauma in their life’s that they haven’t worked on. unfortunately most of them don’t know how to handle it and at the end of the day it’s their job to learn how to cope in a healthier way. that’s apart of being human, we all don’t have the answers and we are all learning as we go and unfortunately, hurting ourselves and others as we go. these characters show how dual and paradoxical humans are. they show the true nature of being human. we all carry dark and light aspects of ourselves. this is life, the thing that matters most is understanding we are all human and showing love and compassion and understand that alot of us are functioning off of trauma but with that being said it’s okay to love someone but never okay excusing their behaviors that harm themselves, you and others.

Honestly, probably an unpopular opinion, I think Rue's explosion on Jules is kind of justified. Jules has been super hypocritical in the relationship, especially when she got on Rue about how Elliot wants to get with Rue. Rue surely picked up on the fact that they had atleast done something together, not just the ratting out and thats why she got so explosive. The really only two friends she had turned around and cheated and hurt Rue. Do I think Rue should've hid her relapse and still done drugs as frequently as she did? No. Am I supporting her for fueling her addiction? No. But I think she just hit her breaking point, especially while withdrawing. I think Rue and Jules should stay split, atleast until they both can handle their own trauma and get help. Edit: I also genuinely blame Elliot too, his character was literally out to break up the pair, so its not completely all on Jules. He knew what he was doing from the start.

Rue was not high in the opening but that is withdrawal that's why she's acting that way. Withdrawal is very very ugly unless you've been through it you won't understand. Usually opiate withdrawal onset is within 24 hours or less. The things you will deal with is. Paranoia, anxiety, fear, worsening of depression, diarrhea, vomiting (sometimes at the same exact time both ends are going) body aches, runny nose, sneezing, coughing, sleeplessness, restless leg and arms when you try to sleep. And there is a lot of anger you're not mad at anyone just the fact your body is asking for more drugs. These effects can last for weeks to months. The emotional withdrawal can be years. There are two stages of withdrawal there is the physical withdrawal then the emotional you will have to deal with both. So you must understand where Rue was coming from. Trust me when I say you'll do whatever it takes to avoid the long restless nights of withdrawal. You're up all night in panic and severe depression your achy you're tired your head hurts you're puking and shitting all night and shaking. I hope this gives some insight to people who don't know everything about withdrawal. Its not just puking.

They shouldn't. They really shouldn't have ever been together in the first place. Rue is WAY too dependent on her, which is very pressuring and triggering for Jules, who had the same relationship with her addicted mother. And Jules obviously wants a very sexually-fulfilling relationship and wants to experiment. Both are bad for each other.
@heligolightly
@heligolightly 2 жыл бұрын
I think we should feel bad for Rue to an extent. I understand if people are annoyed and are done with her. But I think we also need to recognise that she would never act like this if she wasn’t an addict. It’s not like with Cassie or Jules who are fully aware of the choices they’re making and make them just for themselves, like.. they’re in their right mind doing it. But with Rue, she’s so dependent on opiates that it’s corrupting her whole being. The reason she started doing drugs in the first place was because of her mental health problems. She was already suffering from those and then her dad died as well, which I think just tipped her over the edge so that she doesn’t even care anymore. In the opening scene she says herself that she not only hates herself but that she also doesn’t recognise herself. And I think it just demonstrates how addiction can turn you into a completely different human being. And as a non addict we will never understand what an addiction will make you do. It just drives you to do the most insane things and you just can’t help it. It’s a bit like suffering from OCD.. you know it’s wrong and you’re trying to tell your brain but you just can’t help doing it. She wants to be clean but she just can’t help herself. She rather does drugs and is one month away from killing herself than „doing that shit forever“ (rehab). Which I think says a lot about what being an addict does to your brain. Whether it’s spilling the tea about Cassie and Nate, getting out of the car or crossing the street, in that moment it’s the only option she sees to get out of a precarious situation. Whatever it is she does, not only does she not care that it doesn’t make her feel good about herself but she also doesn’t care about the way she treats people. I mean the fact that in the end she went to Laurie of all people, is pretty telling that as a drug addict you will do anything that could possibly benefit you. What absolutely breaks my brain though is why on earth they would flush all of the drugs?! Like.. it was a suitcase with drugs worth 10k. They should know that something is going on because hoooow should Rue ever be able to pay for that, literally how. Honestly, I’m more annoyed about Jules than Rue though. This episode just made me dislike her even more. Not only does she cheat on Rue first chance she gets and in such a f*cked up way. But also with the guy she accused Rue of having a crush on. She made this whole thing out of it. And then she realises.. oh my girlfriend isn’t as sexual as me (duuhh who is?) so let’s hook up with this guy who has been lying to my face this whole time. I just got the impression Jules was feeling bad and that’s why she immediately ratted her out without even talking to Rue first. I mean Maddy freaked out about Cassie and Nate so how else would Rue react under these circumstances, finding out that her gf cheated on her. The acting though.. no words. So phenomenal and real that it was hard to watch. Because from experience I can say that’s exactly how an addict behaves. The violence, aggression and desperation.. so I do feel for her. Because as a family member to see someone you love turn into someone you don’t even recognise.. that’s scary. I think it was important for the show to really visualise what addiction will take from a person and their family.

they want to make you understand how it feels to have a drug addict in your own home. Even though, they are family, at one point you will hate them and that's a fact. Having a drug addict around is the hardest. Trying to help someone who doesn't even care about his health and he's self destructive. That's why I don't really hate Rue; I had a cousin who was exactly like that. Also Rue can't stop taking drugs because you can't quit, as we can see in this episode

Laurie set Rue up to fail this whole time ever since that meeting on the first episode. She gave her the drugs knowing Rue will take it or that she won't get her money and pimp her out to pay back the debt. Laurie calmly hints to this by saying as woman there is always something she can "offer". Don't let the calm demeanor fool you she's a business woman after all. As for Rue dropping the bomb on everyone... Rue has always been the narrator for the episodes. She's aware of some things happening around her like when casually called JUUL a whore during the Elliot interrogation and coming across Cassie and Nate but at that time she was using and numbing herself with drugs to really care. Now that her drug use is exposed and she lost all the drugs, she is on flight or fight mode and flying off the handle and lashing out on everyone. Using all the info she knows as a weapon to get herself out of situations and to hurt them as she "feels" she's being hurt. This show does a really good job showing the chaotic spiral someone with substance abuse falls into and the mess they create for everyone else.

I think your comments about Rue's behavior are valid but I think the problem most people have watched this is reconconsiling the idea of the Rue we've grown to know and even like versus the reality of what life is like when you're around a true drug addict, especially going through withdrawal. This isn't Rue this is the addict reacting because the withdrawal is sending her body into overdrive. I've read that some people can, I believe, die from going through withdrawal because the process of purging the drug from your system is so violent. Just think of it, these drugs have tricked Rue's body into believe she needs it to survive. What that drug lord lady, Carol (?) said in the end is true.

@@arcanevi4477 Most of the fandom treat Rue and Jules VERY differently, they totally put aside Jules own mental issues, self-harm, childhood traumas and her recent traumas with Nate, and also dealing with an emotionally dependent and addict girlfriend, which is overwhelming, and only criticizes her for her actions which is fair, since she's toxic too. But most people completely take away any responsibility of Rue's actions and always want to make it about other people or on her mental issues and addiction, when she's been a pretty shitty person to her family and friends. Rue has mental issues, but so does Jules, Jules HAVE to take responsibility for her actions, but so does Rue, they're both toxic for each other. Of course she's not a "bad person". The world isn't black-and-white, or split into "good people" and "bad people". But Rue is NOT being a good person at the moment. Yes, it is the drugs, but it's still true.

this episode had me so over rue that I can’t defend her anymore, I don’t know why the fandom has gotten it so against Jules when Jules compared to rue is literally almost a saint, she accuses Jules of sucking the life out of everyone yet doesn’t see how her lies and manipulation are literally ending all her relationships with her friends and family, because she’s tiring them out, and yes Jules is wrong for cheating but I think Jules just wasn’t feeling that any of the love she was giving to Rue was being reciprocated cause she’s literally high most of the time, and I can tell she genuinely cares about Rue, Jules is mind you still a teenager and Rues sobriety should not be and is not Jules responsibility, her leaving does not put the blame on Jules for Rue doing drugs again.

I’m over Cassie too and have been for a long time, I get that Rue threw her under the bus but to weaponize her addiction to sort of invalidate what she said was super wrong on her part.

My brother is a former drug addict/alcoholic. Watching this episode and being the Gia of my family where I had to watch everything going on (but I didn't FULLY understand it because I was very young and my bro is 12 years older than I am), it's full stop traumatizing. You want to sympathize with Rue because A. she's the lead, essentially and B. It's Zendaya and it's easy to remember "this is acting and this isn't real" when this kind of thing is VERY real and even worse than how it's portrayed on tv. Watching your brother steal money, take my own car and wreck it bc he wanted me to take him on a drug run and I wouldn't, etc. My mom just kept letting it go and it caused fights not only between my parents and my brother, but then also btwn my parents and then btwn me and my parents. I felt no connection to my brother and I missed out, entirely, on a relationship. It does get to a point where you have to say 'enough is enough' and cut them out completely. Finally my parents did, and when they did, it finally made my bro go to rehab. He's 5 years sober now. I am proud of him, but at the same time, I'm still weary because he's been in and out of rehab since he was 16 and he's 50 now. A first time rehab, a second, a third....it doesn't always mean instant healing. So I feel for the sister and the mom that they don't trust Rue. Same with Rue's friends. This episode sent me. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to watch bc of just how real it was, especially from my own experience with family.

@@playboilottie7959 Dude, it gets so tired. You try and you try to help, but if someone doesn't want to get sober, they don't. There comes a point where you just have to let go and hope for the best, you know? Someone who had addiction problems has to want to fix themselves. If anyone forces it, it never works.

rue hurt fez so bad, his reaction to her doing that made me so sad. i’m just scared because i know he still loves her and would protect her with his life even after all of that, and now rue has got a lady trying to pimp her out for her money & i know that fez will try to protect rue even after all she’s done because like he said at the beginning he sees her as family.

Usually agree with your reactions, but idk about this episode. I get ur annoyed cause believe me anybody would be but you have to have room for disappointment when it comes to Rue and her character. I think we have to understand that Rue is an addict, yes she is a horrible person because drugs make her a horrible person. She’s going to keep making mistakes, creating chaos, and conflicts in her life because she’s heavily influenced by drugs. Her brain now runs with the help of drugs. This is literally her life, I feel like ur not appreciating the realistic behavior that is being portrayed.

I don’t hate rue and I want rue to win … but how much is someone suppose to take before enough is enough was the point im trying to make. It was just a frustrating episode Maybe you skipped parts cause I literally said I still feel so bad for rue and how realistic this episode was…

As someone who has a a lot of family who are addicts, and was one myself. When you watch reactors who are so exhausted after an 1 hour of tv about it. The stress, the pressure, having to grow up quick. It’s 24/7 and this shows just how yes the addicts are hurting. But the families and people effected are doing double time. Cause we have to hold their hurt and ours on top of it. It’s the walking on eggshells cause anything can trigger them. This show is hard to watch sometimes. It hits too close.

As someone was a drug addict it’s hard to watch this shit sometimes. It’s like looking in the mirror. I’ve said awful things to my mother and have physically fought my dad. Now that I’m sober a part of me is definitely happier, like you truly have no idea how amazing it is to be sober unless you’ve spent time feeling like shit fucked up on drugs, but I know deep down that I can never take back the things I’ve said and done to my family and those are regrets I will always carry with me for the rest of my life. They can forgive me but they’ll never forget it. The only thing I can do is make and myself proud by working towards a better future for myself. I’ve also been working on payments towards people I’ve stolen money or “borrowed” from and I’m determined to work my ass off until everyone has their money back. Good luck to everyone who’s trying to live a clean, healthy and sober lifestyle. The journey isn’t easy but it’s worth it in words I can’t even describe.

I feel like people don’t get that Rue isn’t JUST freaking out because she owes those people money. She’s freaking out because her last dose was probably hours ago, and she knows she’s about to be plunged into full withdrawal. That’s why she doesn’t mention Laurie or the money. She doesn’t care. She ONLY cares about keeping herself from getting sick at this point. As a recovering opiate addict this scene hit me SO hard because of how relatable it is.

i don't think rue going to laurie was a good idea AT ALL the insinuation that laurie made about rue being able to get money in other ways by being a woman was straight up a threat and probably the locked room has some girl bein held hostage plus: she said to rue that only had morphine and didnt had any pills but then we see the suitcase full of pills laurie has a plan for rue and not a good one, the amount of times that she needled rue was to give her a junkie mark.. rue is FUCKED

Holy cow, I didn’t even notice the suitcase of pills. Like I was already uneasy with how Laurie got the morphine out before Rue even agreed to it (especially after her comments) but her also having pills makes it so much more sinister. It’s really not too much of a surprise though, because she straight up told Rue when she first gave her the suitcase that if Rue didn’t pay up that Laurie would sell her to make her money back. I’ve been kinda worried that’s where the show was heading ever since then.

First of all I'm so happy we got an episode like this! Ep. 4 kinda dragged the Maddy/Cassie lie and the Cal backstory bit and I was worried it was gonna continue but no. EVERYTHING spilled. Second of all I feel like there's no hope for Rue at this point. She's on the verge of doing jail time and Laurie having her trafficked. I'm scared that Laurie and the others might raid her house.

Nah she's absolutely planning on pimping Rue out. It's why she gave her the bag in the first place. She clocked that Rue was an addict and played it to her advantage. I also wanna know who was locked behind that door in the apartment. Is it another girl she's pimping out? Also, possibly one of the least important things, but i really need Cassie to learn how to lie. Like a half ounce of pressure and you snotting and sniffling. How you been living this lie for this long and didn't have a "just in case" story ready to go? This situation in particular should have been super easy cause it's you vs the most unreliable narrator in the world. And you let her corner you? That's shameful
