Blaine was complicated in the Gen 1 Manga, as he was the scientist who created Mewtwo. He betrayed Team Rocket though & eventually became the 4th Gym Leader of Justice. Then there was the Gym Leader Triad of Lt. Surge, Koga, & Sabrina who would each be rivaled with the Original 3 Pokedex Holders. The alliance between Team Rocket & The Pokedex Holders against the Elite 4 in Yellow Saga would pair each of the rivals against a member of the Elite 4, while Yellow, Blaine, & later Giovanni would go up against Lance. Giovanni & Koga would go missing, while Surge & Sabrina would go back to their gyms & become respectable Gym Leaders after the battle on Cerise Island.

Bit of correction. Team Rocket is NOT the only team to have nothing to do with their mascot or to try and use a legendary for their goals. Team Yell has nothing to do with Zacian and Zamazenta. Team Skull had no interest in using Solgaleo, Lunala, or Necrozma to achieve their goals.

That Thu-Fi-Zer's name is a fusion of the Japanese names for the Legendary Birds. Articuno is Freezer, Zapdos is Thunder, and Moltres is Fire. Yeah. Japanese Gen 1 Pokemon names don't seem that inspired.
