The acclaim for this sweet song is well justified; it and your performance is lovely. To my ear it is reminiscent of your early work without being an imitation of or (horror) a “knock-off” of yourself-is that even legal in North America? No, I mean it has a quality of that period, a freshness and... perhaps a sense of “newness.” Those are decidedly good things. Not innocence-but let’s be honest, that never was your stock in trade. Life is just too... brutal for innocence. Anyway, again, to my ear, this lovely song betrays a sense of vulnerability-while one somehow recognizes that there is the maturity of an adult maintaining the necessary detachment and distance; quite a creative achievement-and as we know, if it is reflected in reality, we’re golden. Well done.
