As someone starting a cleaning company I found while testing out different carpet cleaners over months the Bissell Big Green the best bang for your buck. Not only is it cheaper it is also far superior to models at the same price and you are right on with your analysis in comparing the two.

Bought the Big Green 7 yrs ago and can't recommend it for longevity. At the end of the 2 yr warranty period, the clean solution tank began to leak. At first, just a small leak running down the back of the vac. But by year 4, a small river that I had to mop off the hardwood when cleaning the area rug that also wasted a lot of cleaning solution. A year ago, the motor started making clanking noises, then electrical burning smell. No more Big Green. So, 6 yrs use out of it. Which may sound like a long time, but it was used in one house every 2-3 mos to clean an area rug + 1 pc of upholstered furniture. A commercial grade vac ought to last longer than that. When it worked, it did a good job, but the leaking in year 3 dimmed my enthusiasm for the BG. After a similar experience w/ a Pet Pro (not working after only 3 uses!), going to try Rug Dr. I used to rent RD; they clean well, but not sure on the longevity issue.

I got a Big Green to replace my old ProHeat 2x. It blows it away in every way possible. It deep cleans better, it sucks way more water from carpets, every plastic piece is commercial grade, the rear wheels have rubber tread, and it's capacity for clean and dirty water is great for large houses. I only have the tiniest of complaints about it, like the power button being behind the top handle. I never get used to that! The hose must be stored somewhere because the machine can't hold it. That's really it. They are very small drawbacks compared to how great this thing is at cleaning and how long it will last compared to a supermarket cleaner.

Curious to the brand of cleaning fluid used. Update. I used the Bissell and it was awesome. It saved the carpet literally lol. One thing tho, if you rent the attachment hose make sure u really check it before u leave. Mine was previously broken and glued back on. As soon as i tried it snapped and i noticed dried glue on the crack. The Ace Hardware i rented it from didn't give me trouble once i explained it but just keep an eye out.

I can’t speak to the cleaning quality of the two, but the Rug Doctor is more durable. I used to work for Lowes and we switched our rentals from Rug Doctor to Bissell around 2010. The Bissells constantly break, everything about them is cheap plastic that breaks. Yes, the Bissell is more convenient with its removable tanks, but that’s also what makes them more fragile. The Rug Doctors very rarely has broken pieces.

I've used the Rug Doctor for twenty years and the Bissell Big Green once. Rug Doctor: cleans well, a bit awkward to use, attachments not easy to install or use, changing/adding new solution cumbersome. Bissell Big Green: cleans better with back and forth motion, much easier to add new solution or get rid of dirty solution, easier to take apart and assemble, about the same to maneuver, more difficult to hear when out of solution, easy to attach hand held attachment.

Big green all the way! I own the big green and have used the rug doctor also. The big green is just such a more easy to use machine and you can go back and forth instead of more like a “squeegee” type method of the rug doctor. The rug doctors short handle hurts my back too
@lostintheclouds87192 жыл бұрын
This is such a major advantage knowing this. I have a rug doctor spot clean for pet stains b/c it has the most powerful suction on the market. The main drawback is you can’t really go back and forth when cleaning. You can but it’s tough cuz it’s not meant to be used that way however it cleans better that way. I’m looking for equal sucking power of that if not better in an upright though. I was drawn to what my neighbor has (pro heat 2x revolution but reviews say it leaks and runs hot requiring cool down periods). The Tineco carpet one def appeals to me especially if it will do what it says. I also was checking out the rug dr pro deep but i def don’t like that it weighs 40lbs and now learning it only cleans when you pull it towards you. That’s a major downside for me. Plus you have to go super slow and it takes awhile to dry supposedly. The thing that killed it for me besides the weight factor and the vibrating brush is that i can’t clean back and forth with it… this just saved me $649. Thx for sharing
@meestirbig30832 жыл бұрын
Trust me. And yes I am biased for the Rug Doctor. You are comparing apples to oranges. 1st, just look at the clean water tank for Bissel, it is tiny, very tiny. Rug Doctor's Wide Track has a 3 1/2 gallon holding tank and a 8 gallon dirty water tank. Bissel is much smaller. That means you have to fill and dump much more frequently. Now, for the roller brush. Rug Doctor does indeed have a roller brush. It looks a lot like the Bissel. If you wanted to do a side by side comparison, why didn't you use this machine? It is called the PDC. And, it is crap. All the roller brush does is collect the dirt and hair and wrap it around the spindle. When you have a lite weight machine that is small and made mostly of plastic, you will have to sacrifice something. Which is: The Vacuum motor. The Bissel uses a really small vacuum motor made of mostly plastic. The Rug Doctor's in an all metal, with aluminum vacuum blades. This gives you more lifting power. You'll never convince me that the Bissel vacuum is much better. It would be like comparing a Yugo to an Audi or BMW.
@lostintheclouds87192 жыл бұрын
Wow ty for sharing. There was another reviewer who did a review on the rug dr and endorsed the big green more. He also recommended the revolution too by Bissell. Is it true that you should NOT use hot water in the Bissell Big Green. That hot water will dissolve the glue (flow indicator) that holds the 2 half's together and you will spring a leak at the top of the vacuum and no water will come out where it should anymore.
@carpii2 жыл бұрын
Best not to use hot water anyway. I made that mistake and after cleaning a patch where my cat had peed, I noticed the hot water had faded the dyes in the carpet slightly. It was good quality carpet too. Warm water is fine, maybe 30C or something

The bissell is only better then the original rug doctor because the rug doctor wide track was invented in the 1900’s and had the original vibrating brush, but the bissell big green was a newer model and had a spinning brush, so it’s obviously better. This one is in my list along with two others one is Hoover power scrub deluxe n it’s red, the other is Bissell ProHeat 2x revolutionary pet pro, it’s purple and green. Our back doir was left open n a mouse got in. I need a shampooer that gets right to the edge of the woodwork n the one we have doesn’t. I want the best of course but I need it to get to the edge n also if your a tool to get closer I don’t mind buying it extra but it has to have good suction to get it clean. I’m very OCD and never have mice issues. So it’s a must I get it shampooed to perfection. Thank you for a quick response. Easier than watching 20 diff videos from people n searching through them. So here is the best cleaning combo: 1. Vacuum with Kirby 2. Apply a commercial Pre-Spray (I get mine from Jon Don) 3. Agitage Pre-Spray with Kirby shampooer, leave foam mix out so you are not putting foam down, you are just using the Kirby to agitate. You will be amazed what comes out of your carpet! 4. Extract with Bissell Big Green with water only. This removes all detergent and leaves no residue!

Both too big for me. On those hand tools, I'd say the one with the most concentrated suction would be best at removing wet spills because the technique I like for that is pouring water or solution on the spill will sucking it up with the tool. This is how I have seen the professionals do it and it's a technique that seems to work well - if the machine has lots of concentrated suction at the tool.
