Thank you so much! I have a new project I am intimidated by, and your 3 common mistakes has helped me pull out some wood and re-do some tight stitches, and my confidence is better. Not through the roof, mind you, but better and I am working on my piece again. I am just loving how you work with all different textures, wools, and it is all so creative and fun. :)

Thank you! Your videos are very helpful and I enjoy watching them. Please make more! I LOVE rug hooking with it's history and practicality but I'm a newby with actually doing it and completing a project. I have a small project/kit I'm trying out currently but have aspirations to one day make a small rug of my own design. Thank you again!

Hi Haley, I was looking through a magazine and there was an article about wool rug hooking. It looked like it might be fun to do. I searched Google and I found your video. Thank you for explaining your craft in such an easy understandable video. I can't wait to get some supplies and try Rug Hooking.

I’m surprised you cut against the warp. I thought warp threads were the strongest, so you would want to cut keeping them intact. The selvage edge is parallel with the warp, isn’t it?

Fraser is still in business and new Bliss of 500 models. They do sharpen the blades and refurbish older models of their cutters. The price of a new cutter is now $500 for the cutter and $65 for new blades.

Thank you for this video. Love your rugs. It answered the question about which direction to cut wool for hooking. I cut all my wood by hand as I do not have a cutter. However, it’s not hard to cut and I like the finished product. Have you ever used wool yarns? I follow Deanne Fitzpatrick also and she seems to be using more wool yarns these past few years.

Glad it was helpful! Yes, Deanne is my aunt! I am using more yarns now than ever.

I hope you get a beeline soon. I have an older townsend with the long blades and love it. Can you explain what you mean by "elastics" on the Bolivar? Is it like a harder rubber?
@loopbyloopstudio
@loopbyloopstudio 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's very hard, but ply-able plastic. It makes cleaning easy because the elastic blades can be moved to clean under.

Hi, thanks for sharing. I lose track of where the selvidge edge is by the time the swatch goes through the cutter.

Just found you and I’m so glad. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I have a Frazier cutter and wanted to know what size to cut to use it as punch needle. Any tips would be great. Thank you
@loopbyloopstudio
@loopbyloopstudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Connie, glad you liked the video! The thickened of your wool all depends on the size of your punch needle tool. I don’t know a ton about punch needle but I know that I can use a rug hooking #8 sized wool strips with a #10 sized Oxford needle. I would look and see if there is any info on the website of whoever made your needle (such as Oxford needles - there is a TON of into there). Hope that helps.

I just inherited a Rigby cutter that only as the size 4 (1/8th inch) blade on it. Is there someplace to order new blades or is it just what size comes in the cutter?

You can change the blades out. I would try Ault's Rug Hooking Store (aults.com). Hope that helps!

Can any of these cutters used for cotton fabric?
@loopbyloopstudio
@loopbyloopstudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Caroline, no, cutting fabric other than wool is not recommended for any of these cutters. In addition to dulling your blades, I could see how cotton wouldn’t work well because of how thin it is. Better stick to wool only, I’d say.

You should protect your lungs when you’re cutting wool. Those fibers can cause damage over time.

Hi Jodi! I actually do usually wear a dust mask when cutting almost all the time! Thanks for the comment - it's a good reminder to everyone else who is watching.
