This was one of the very best learning videos that I have watched. You waste no time getting to the teaching. You are very easy to verbally understand. Your instruction is easy to follow and direct on point of the title. The video was easy to see. You are a natural in front of the camera. I will continue to follow you!

Had to watch this video TWICE! I've successfully experimented with unravelling/cutting up sweaters in the past, but SO APPRECIATE all the GOOD INFO here! And yeah, love that FULLER texture that comes with cut sweater strips! THANX, Deana!!! x

Adding tennis balls into the wash can improve the agitation and felting. Generally speaking, the dryer does not add a lot of felting value for the cost of the energy you use.

I have always had to look after my clothes, and the majority of them are second hand I’m very proud to say. When I decided to use some jumpers that I had specifically purchased to use in a rug, it literally took me three months of getting myself in a safe place where I could put them in the washing machine on a hot wash “Three months”! That’s what I call liberating 😂🤣👍

Great video! Now I can’t wait to get back to the thrift stores and yard sales, and do some hunting! I have found that the parts of the sweater that can’t be used for hooking make great cat toys. They are often a little bit thick, fuzzy, soft and long. I tie a few together. :-)

Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for sharing this video. I’m on my second ever rug, and both this one and the last were with sweaters. I did have questions and you answered pretty much all of them.

On the last bit about the Scottish Irish mohair scarves, what grain, or how did you cut them? Thanks You know, there’s the fringe on ends. So, did you cut across ?

Hey Deanna! This was so informative & helpful. As always, I enjoy your wisdom & your willingness to share information. It is such a huge help that you demonstrate what you’re talking about. Also, I was able to get the Tavern book that you were talking about this morning. I’m going to need a new bookshelf after following you!😂

It looks like a lot. People will always want to sell you something crazy. This is a craft you can very inexpensively. I sell great hooks and punches around $12 and once you tear up clothes you aren't using anymore... or grab a multicolored acrylic yarn cake... you'll be amazed at how inexpensive it can be with exactly the same results!

Everybody has a favorite. I'm not fond of the small cute. 6 and 7 are my favorites, but when I"m doing something really primitive I like to cut my strips wider with a rotarty cutter or scissors. I hope that helps! xx

I am thinking of using synthetic sweaters to make a woven or braided rug. I am allergic to wool. Any suggestions? Is that MONKs cloth you are using? Can you tell me more about your hook? I inherited one from a dear aunt. It has the little latch thing.

You have an excellent teaching demeanor, love your videos. Curious if you could use this method with a punch needle? Have you tried? Thanks! - sorry if you addressed that and I missed it.
@RibbonCandyHooking4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Alice! I haven't punched with cut up sweaters only because I feel like they would continually snag in the punch needle. Its hard to cut them really thin and neat, even with a cutter and they come out a little jagged. It may be that they're ok for punching, I've been wrong before! But hooking them is really fast and easy.

A bit too thick. BUT You could cut them up and use them in latch hook backing. You would rug hook the same way but have much bigger holes for pulling something thicker through

Can you work with wool pants or suits?
@RibbonCandyHooking3 жыл бұрын
Definitely yes. Some weaves are more loose and it's goid to wash and dry everything first so it 'fulls' means felts a little. Then you know it's clean and it'll be less likely to fray

Hi loved the recycling idea. Im new to this. It's very interesting. What is the base used for this. Is it a cross stitch material? Please let me know.
@RibbonCandyHooking3 жыл бұрын
No, you can use linen, rug warp, or monk's cloth... there is a needlepoint backing also called monk's cloth that's like an Aida cloth and that won't work. Confusing that there are two different fabrics called monk's cloth so you have to be sure you're searching rug hooking supplies
