I've all the sympathy in the world for this guy, but the ID idea is a very dangerous one. If that were successful all it would take in the future is for one of his children/grandchildren to rub someone in power up the wrong way and they'll find themselves banned from pubs restaurants and shops everywhere. It's sad what's happened and I really do feel for his family, I come from one of the roughest places in the uk that actually had the worst knife crime and underage pregnancies in the whole of the EU at one point and in my experience there is no such thing as an unprovoked attack, either you gave a funny look or held yourself the wrong way or simply didn't read a situation correctly, either way unprovoked attacks are a myth

Whats your doubts on it being unreasonable? Not having a go, genuine question. I think the glass to plastic is pretty reasonable and doesn’t take much to change. A lot of places already use plastic too. It saves on buying new glasses when they are smashed, you don’t have to worry about cleaning it up and the most important they can’t be used as a weapon. I wouldn’t want to drink out of one of those flimsy disposable cups in a bar but some places I’ve been to the only way to tell the difference is by the weight.

Plastic glasses is such a great idea and I’m sure it would be cheaper. Even use the same glass and go to the bar for a top up etc. Maybe do a ‘Starbucks’ thing where u go in and write your name on the plastic. So simple to do this and stop ‘glassing’ injuries. My 19 year old granddaughter was hit on the head by a glass thrown in a local pub on last Thursday causing hospitalisation for three cuts to her face and a large bump over her left eye after the England v Denmark match. The assailant fled the bar, leaving her with her two friends to deal with assisting her. If I ever find out who did it I shall see that he pays for what he did.

Being a hikikomori is even more appealing now. You can be a functional hikikomori, where you work just enough to make ends meet, and spend only the amount of time outside to commute to work and back and run errands, that's it.
