One of England's best ever performances. As an England fan it was so great to see this, but such a shame that the squad couldn't reproduce this sort of form in the final versus South Africa. It was if they had no energy left, physically or mentally, for the final. Such a pity. Since this great effort, England have rather lost their way with very poor showings in the Six Nations in both 2021 and 2022.

No excuses here from a kiwi, it was excellent from England but it was very similar to us with a 10 out of 10 performance the week before against Ireland. Then we had a flat performance the week after , it’s very difficult to play at that level week after week and you only have to be slightly down these days and the other team is up and that can be a major contributing factor , it’s all so even with talent now days .

Especially as there were a number of times NZ were crossing that wasn't penalised... Feels like if they're going to disallow a try for that they should at least be consistent. Plus I'm pretty sure the NZ defender deliberately went for the dummy runner to make sure they got the penalty, rather than trying to stop England from scoring a try on the field.

I remember watching this and was sweating and had butterfly’s from the moment they came out the tunnel to until the final whistle. As an Englishman, the way england looked when they were doing the anthem was frightening. Some of them looked green with nerves. Farrel on the end looked the most composed of any of them and that takes some guts! Anyway the result was exactly what I spent 4 years dreaming of and even though we weren’t at our peak when the final came, I think this match and England’s performance was the highlight of the whole tournament. People will remember SA for getting the cup, but they’ll remember england just as much for this performance.

I remember the build up to the 2003 World Cup, not just the 12 months prior but years of it. The intricacies of squad announcement, the interplay of who will work best with another. What’s best for the squad and sometimes that isn’t who’s the best player individually, I watched all the matches in 03 with my team mates from Colchester (cavaliers, 4ths) and we just all had a belief in that squad and yes it got a bit squiffy bum moments at times but their belief in the team got them through. This match was England’s final they were amazing. After this they were spent emotionally from coach downward, don’t believe me look at the NZ vs SA match in the earlier stages. Once sinkler was ko we didn’t have a hope, that said the tactics SA deployed in the final were adaptive and worked well for them.

@@andrewgirdlestone7607 England needed more time in the gym and less time on the pitch. They were physically too weak for the final. This was Englands 'final', they 'blew out' after this amazing performance. S.A were waiting for them from their early loss to the AB's I think. for me, it was wonderful to see South Africa win, it can but go towards uniting their great nation. @@THEMRblackboy7thst England did suck, all of South Africas points in the first half came from scrum penalties, all those scrums came from English knock ons, many without a South African player even being close. England had more knock ons in the first half than they did against NZ and Australia combined. England also threw the ball directly into touch and kicked directly to touch multiple times. SA were very good but England were just making a whole host of errors and the majority were unforced.

After watching this again, I was disappointed with the lack of aggression and speed in the close defensive line of the AB’s, allowing the English momentum and making life difficult for the AB outside defense. Kieran Reid said a couple of days later they watched the game as a team and were ruing their mistakes (he didn’t elaborate), but after watching this again as an AB supporter, I can see how they left the door open for England and played into the English strengths (set pieces, fast recycling, big strong runners etc). This English team was awesome!

@@blairansellfraser In real terms we dont. We have the most registered players because the Brits are big into joining stuff. We have 2 types of Rugby in the UK.
