Keith Wood was a monster on this tour and played far better than he did in 1997, even thought the Lions lost this tour.

This was such a shock to us Wallabies fans - it wasn't so much that we lost but its how the Lions won - with adventure and dare I say it no small amount of Aussie flare. Amazing performance by the Lions - amazing fans the whole week in Brisbane - despite us losing this really is one of my most memorable rugby experiences.

Gregans passing speed is unbefitting of the era. Truly one of the great halfbacks of all time.

He was a little tank as well. Scrum half's always look small next to their pack... But gregan had massive thighs!

Gregan stamps on Charvis in the 80th minute and Johnson asks the ref about it. “If he does that he’s gonna get stepped on” Different game 😁

Though why did Gregan not get pinged for the deliberate ankle stamp?
@grahammitchell54442 жыл бұрын
Quite; what a cowardly thing to do. Almost as bad as Jamie Joseph stamping on Kyran Bracken's ankle. The ref missed that gutless action as well.

Three incredible tries from the Lions from Robinson, James and O'Driscoll, although hard to imagine any of them being scored in the modern game against quality opposition, bar a complete fluke. Defending has got much better in rugby since this era and you can't just run in tries by gassing round your opposite number or putting it through the hands to get a winger over in the corner anymore. Rugby has got more sophisticated, but arguably less entertaining. Also shout out to the rampaging potato, Keith Wood! Best in the world on his day at the time.

The Lions won the 1st test comfortably and at halftime in the 2nd test it looked like they had the match and series sealed. But Wallaby stars like Gregan, Larkham, and Roff turned the match and series around for them.

I get the feeling Andre realised that Quinnell was perfectly within his rights to take the ball so made up a "bordetline" excuae not to yellow card.

There's almost a sort of freedom to this match. The kicking was atrocious throughout, including Wilko, maybe the ball wasn't the easiest compared to modern rugby balls, but actually the lack of efficiency in kicking made this much more exciting

The best of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (Lions) versus the Wallabies. Where is the combined Australia and New Zealand team (Wallawis)? Admittedly, Australia might only get three in the first 15, perhaps three on the bench.

Credit to Australia for the way they came back into this series, but if only Matt Dawson and Austin Healey had kept their arrogant opinions to themselves and not fired up the Wallabies, especially Justin Harrison, I think the Lions would've won the 3rd test.
@xpat734 жыл бұрын
the Lions lost the 3rd test because of injuries and because Charvis took a moronic quick throw in to himself and the Aussies scored from it.

The 2001 Lions were a much better team than the often lauded 1997 Lions. They played far more rugby. But they lost. So they don;t get the plaudits. 1997 team is the most overrated Lions team ever.
@ianstewart94874 жыл бұрын
Aussie commentators trying to blame the Lions tries on the fact that the Lions were more battle hardened than the Aussies. Missed tackles is the more likely reason. Latham slower than molasses

1.14 if it's a ruck then why is the Aussie player on the floor holding onto the ball? 😂😂. Quinnell is on his feet when he rips the ball!
