As it stands the AB's are the 4th best team in the world. This was always going to happen as other unions became more professional and with greater ability to generate revenue. New Zealand will always be a rugby powerhouse but will not dominate the game ever again like before. The aura of AB invincibility had been broken. Teams like ireland and Argentina have shown that AB's are very beatable. The has only increased the popularity of rugby worldwide which is good for the game.
@mrguy7582
@mrguy7582 2 ай бұрын
wouldn't go as far as saying that they won't be dominant again. People say because the other teams caught up, well yeah, they have a little but that's been the case for many years. Australia has gotten worse, the island nations beside Fiji have gotten worse. England aren't as good as when they had wilkinson. Wales are worse. The only teams that have gotten better are probably Ireland. South Africa probably have gotten better too, but they were never bad? They were always a dominant force, they're just peaking atm. I don't think that All Blacks issue is the other teams, All Blacks issue is their discipline and trying to ride the 2011 wave for way too long. Reffing has changed, we've spent like 5 years complaining about penalties, and yet we're still one of the most penalised teams in international rugby? How does that happen? When do they finally adapt and change their game. All Blacks strength used to be that they would revolutionise a style of play, now we can't even revolutionise our discipline to get less penalties? wtf.

Scott Robertson is a great coach and is rebuilding our team to be great again, and he will get there. I think our biggest adjustments have been in the 2nd row where we've had an advantage with Whitelock and Retallick to combat the likes of Etzebet and Steph Detoit.. Rassie would have learned in the military that victories come from the identification/creation and exploitation of imbalances on the field. (Space is a fluid, fleeting imbalance.) He took it a step farther and identified, and exploited, two facets of the game - fitness and depth - and exploits both of them using the Bomb Squad. His teams are supremely fit, and the deliberately developed depth - that has proven to be equally efficient after making rafts of changes - has become called the Bomb Squad. The resulting delta is two tries (10-14 pts) against the top opposition on the planet - the Kiwis - even after being held at the set piece and monstered at the breakdown. Give Razor eight years and the Kiwis will be in both RWC Finals, he's not 'a stoopid.'

The speed of ball to the AB backline has slowed considerably since Aaron Smith left. This has allowed rush defense to pressure our second phase ball, leading to an overall loss of go-forward and panicked kicking. TJ has a terrible habit of delaying his pass until he feels the AB’s are set, just when the opposition is looking fragile. If you wondered why the AB’s aren’t finding the holes in opposition defense, why they are running out of ideas and literally kicking the ball back to the opposition…it’s because they can’t build momentum with TJ periodically slowing it down at the helm. So frustrating to watch!!

I'm an SA fella and loving our success, obviously. Who wouldn't? Now, let's turn our attention to the ABs: With all due respect, if your non-national rugby is limited to local and one other nation's domestic teams, then you can't deny you're seriously limiting your exposure to top quality opposition. Sadly, the other nation in this case, is a very below par Aus. In addition to that, your structures don't force|enable the amazing depth our new provincial tournament structures enable. Sharks, Bulls and Stormers are forced into at least 3 teams deep, due to the Northern Hemishpere tournament structures we participate in. In addition to that. We get to be exposed to the best the world has to offer, on a provintional/club level. Addd to that, our selection policy allowing selection of foreign based players. No matter how talented you are, how can, what has become a closed NZAUS system, compete. Co sidelong that you only just lost. Only just. Your players and coach are legendary, when considering how much they have to overcome on a National level. Create parity on all those points and I'm afraid to say, the rest of the world will have their tails back between their legs when the ABs are in town. Bokke included. We have utmost respect for the ABs. Long live NZ rugby!

As a Bok supporter I have a lot of respect for the All Black team. I would really like to see NZ get back into the space where the matches between the Boks and the AB's become the spectacle it has always been. I would just like to give my opinion about the rivalry between these top teams over the years. We played against NZ for the first time in 1921 and from that date until 1981 we were the only team in the world that had beaten the AB's more than they had beaten us and would like to think that we were the dominant in that period of 60 years. (20 vs 15 games) Then came the years of sanctions and we did not play many International teams at all. South Africa had to focus on the Currie Cup to at least have a series that SA could get involved in. We did not have any exposure during that period to how the game had developed and mostly banked on 10-man rugby as a strategy to win. Since re-entry into international rugby, we had to start at the bottom (or nearly) once again. We had some very good players, but we had a lack of strategy to face the developed teams at the time. I believe we won the 95 World Cup because the opposition was unprepared to face our now (new-old) strategy of playing. Arguably, NZ had been the dominant team for the last nearly 30 years, but I think that the days of NZ playing the brand of rugby and winning with that brand is ending and they will have to develop new strategies to win in the future. The fact that their brand of rugby has been successful for so many years makes it even more difficult to change. I hope they do.

My take is that firstly, NZ is the greatest nation when it comes to the game. Their dominance especially during mid 2000's to later 2010's was immense. Having a cycle of dominance that lasts beyond that takes a MAMMOTH task. AB's should still be incredibly proud given they lost by 1 point in the WC final with 14 men for the majority, can still beat anyone on their day. What the Springboks have developed under Rassie, is what the AB's had in abundance....being able to execute in key moments and KNOWING HOW TO WIN! This takes time and has to be built with youth and depth like SA have done. AB rugby isn't in a state of worry right now but in 5 years could be if NZR don't get their act together. Funny old game, this. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the two wins immensely. But let's not forget that both games against the All Blacks finished with the two teams within one converted try. Two unlucky bounces, two unlucky ref calls or two poor lineout throws and the ABs would have had two from two and everyone would have sung Razor's praises and Rassie would have been under pressure. I know the results didn't go NZ's way but it easily could have. The gap on the points log looks gargantuan, but in reality, the difference between the two teams can be measured in millimetres, not inches. So keep heart, All Black fans. Two matches in a row, the Springboks came stronger in the final 20 minutes because of the impact of their Bomb Squad. The All Blacks ignored the strength of the bomb squad at their peril.

Some humble and respectful comments from a Boks Supporter : 1. Give Razor time 2. Make someone like Savea Captain - who has the correct dosage of no nonsense All Black DNA in him 3. Allow the selection of New Zealand players who play overseas - with a similar system than SA (once a player "payed his dues" and have enough Caps) 4. Find better Tight Five players. New Zealand simply does not have enough dominating locks and props coming through. Not one of the current starting Tight Five players of All Blacks are anywhere near the best in their positions in the World - where in the past about 80% All Blacks would have been strong or sole contenders, if a World Best Team had to be selected 5. Move on from Sam Cane type Flankers - who just make up the numbers and who are not anywhere near the World dominating All Black flankers of the past - like Kronfeld, McCaw, Kainu, Collins, Jones.... The All Blacks loss of form and decline started from about 2019 - when their winning games with the Boks and others started to become by much smaller margins - and it started and is getting worse mainly in the forwards...

As a neutral, it's clear SA are currently the best in the world, but AB pundits are talking as if it's a choice between SA and AB. The AB has to be able to consistently beat more than SA to be considered close to #1. I'm sure they're on the right track to get back to where they were. But the rugby landscape has changed a lot over the last few years and I personally don't think there's room for a continued AB legacy like the history books previously told.

Rassie Fine-tune & Manage that structure well, it's not something that NZ & Australia should be amazed of it was there all the time. Blues vs Stormers was a Catalyst many years ago of what's to come. The Team that's getting close to align itself to meet the Boks in that kind of intensity is Ireland & France they getting very close and those teams will be a real force in the Next World Cup.
