No one gets the reaction apart from Farrell, let's not pretend your concerned about head trauma, otherwise rugby needs to be banned outright, because you may be surprised, but head contact is still prevalent in the game. Iv seen it multiple times, non malice head shots, or head clashes resulting in red cards through dips, and split second change in direction, these are unfortunate events. If you believe him getting off has integrity, I really hope you are not a member of our sport. Farrell is a great player and it would honestly be a shame for him not to play the World Cup. A stupid question that should never have been asked. The Owen Farrell incident has little impact on Ireland coaching and even less on Irelands prep for the world cup. Ask this question of the IRFU or WR but to ask a father about his sons likley ban from the world cup is ridiculous. I cant remember any journalist asking Sextons dad if he should mouth off at referees. OK as Ireland coach Andy is in the public eye but only for Ireland coaching decisions. I have yet to see Borthwick asked a similar question and he is Owens coach. Andy is between a rock and a hard place as Ireland coach, he has kept this position honorable but this was a dishonorable question from journalists.

@jimmylovescake6813

The tackle was bad, defonate Ted and worthy of a ban. Should rest there. The panel making the decision were weak and have created a massive mess of the game by failing to act, because of this there is deflection on Farrell that is not fair. He should have have his suspension and everyone would have accepted it. There were NO mitigating circumstances to reduce beyond an apology, this is not good enough for a repeat offender. By the nature of how many times this has happened there is an argument for adding weeks. The decision not to is not Farrels, and its easy to be angered, but we should be smart and mature enough to recognise where the failings really are, and that is the bias or corruption within the systems of the game. A sad start to a world cup that does not set a good example or encourage any new players to the sport.

Here is my prediction of the outcome of the Owen Farrell saga (18 August 2023) : "It would not be in the best interest of rugby to overturn the yellow card decision and ban Owen Farrell, as he has already gone through a lot of turmoil during the last few days ... from yellow card to red card, back to yellow card, World Rugby finds that because of all the suffering he has endured (World Rugby will present some smoke & mirror tactical approach) blah blah blah, we have decided to leave the status quo of the outcome unchanged."

Owen is not certainly a model of sportsmanship, but he is not the problem. The only disgusting thing here is the Rugby World kybala/ Kabala , the one who allowed him to do that for years without supporting any consequences... exactly AS IT HAPPENED DURING THE LATE RICHIE McCAW ERA when New Zealand HAD TO BE THE BEST TM IN THE WORLD and when Craig Joubert , the RW's hit man, assassinated France in the 2011 final or Scotland in the 2015 quarter final. We also had some debatable events in 2019 RWC... For years now, all the energies are directed against teams like Springboks or France (maybe Scotland too). Now when NZ and England are not really the safest horses on the race, the flags are up for Ireland. Great team, but we saw the way the games against the two "public enemies" have been refereed . What's going on today is the consequence of this silent warfare. Just watch the poois and it's enough to understand that they were designed and scheduled to bring down Springboks - the number one menace - and France somewhere in the process and give a chance to England and to the loyal Australians fellows... It was no drawing lots, just engineered drawing lots. Boers will never be forgiven for their resiliency... Don't worry Zulu and Xhosa learned their lesson and will never betray their history again. This is the part where unexpectedly the rugby get linked to the geopolitics, gold, diamonds, etc. Every WC won by the Springboks will keep this fascinating country not falling apart and the greedy bastards away from its wealth... But now there is hope; if rugby can't do it, the Russians, the Chinese & Co. will help them to face the forces of the darkness. So RWC WINNERS OR NOT hopefully they will survive as the RAINBOW NATION! Hopefully! Alleluia

Wow reading comments Andy Farrell is spot on. Irrespective of if you like Owen Farrell or not, when did rugby fans become so hysterical and emotional that vilifying a player like this has become acceptable by posters who like to proclaim that rugby is unique and superior in its values over other sports like football. I dont see any difference between rugby or football fans comments, both attack players for reasons real or imaginary. I dont know Farrell nor do i have a strong opinion on him either way, but comments on here are embarrassing

He brought this circus on himself with his repetitive poor tackles. He knows exactly what he’s doing and he must be punished

Speaks about honesty but can't be honest about his son, admitting your error and owning is the true sign of honesty, no one is perfect but if he calls it as it is he would be more credible

Protect your son just like RFU protects its captain in the face of clear foul play. Who's the disgusting one here, really?

What is disgusting is a parent defending a child when they should reprimand them and lead them to do better. No wonder he continues with the dirty play.

Your son is wrong Andy.... Just face the facts and admit it. Owen has always had the idea that he is above the law . Ask Tiger Woods what happens when you find yourself there. And unfortunately you Andy played a role in getting him there. It's hard but true

@benrawson007 but still tried to get out of the red card. So once again he is not taking responsibility for his actions. Don't play with words. You're wasting everyone's time

@@johnsantos3392 Pleading guilty is not trying to get out of it, quite the opposite. It was the 4 independant judges that said there was mitigation.

The Woaks are taking over rugby now .. that tackle was hardly a yellow card , that’s why they rescinded the red card .

If that's the case why didn't the recind the Japanese players that infringed a few weeks prior. The problem imo wasn't the hit, it's the consistency. If Farrell gets a pass so should everyone else

Can’t fault a dad for defending his son, but Owens actions have been, for years now, unacceptable. World rugbys hypocrisy knows no bounds. AB’s gunna smack em all

Maybe he should focus on his inability to coach his son one of rugby's most fundamental skills ... the tackle. Honestly, he should have opted out of discussing this mess.
