Picking overseas players is a no-brainer. When SA started doing this, they drew a number of their first XV from overseas. Now they've managed to convince many of those same players to return home to ply their trade for their provincial sides. It was the success of their national game that drew many of those players back, and New Zealand could reap the same benefits if their four-year rebuild proceeds as planned. It makes little sense to restrict selections to locally based players now, not least because Super Rugby is not the competition you need to blood youngsters for international rugby. You can't sharpen the iron you need to win Webb Ellis trophies by beating up third-rate Aussie teams. You need legit competition: the kind the South Africans get whenever they face the elite NH club sides and that NZ now lack. Losing the South African sides has been a disaster for Super Rugby.
@fu87132 ай бұрын
davesmith826 Elite NH teams is a bit of a stretch lol but we do need better competition South Africa packed a sook losing to the elite NZ teams for many many years lol so they packed their toys and ran away to the euro competition lol And definitely 💯 need to use our overseas players. That’s the big hole in the ABs. That’s half of the engine room right there plus Richie Mo and Smith Massive for the ABs But still part of rebuilding everyone expected better by this stage but 🤷🏼♂️ Definitely big improvement from the England games This was the perfect time for ANYONE to beat the All Blacks with all the new changes coaches players Funny when everyone starts talking trash about them they forget very fast lol Pay no attention to bums 😂😂 History says it all numbers don’t lie or get emotional with over blown egos after a few controversial games 😂 Everyone wrote them off at RWC they weren’t even supposed to make the semis 😂😂 especially Ireland cocky MFs Keep talking fkn amateurs

Yup SANZAAR really goofed up that arrangement. It seemed inevitable though as the SA teams hadn’t seen championship success in more than 10 years by that point and the travel was just unsustainable. I do feel though as soon as NZR let the players go overseas there will be a knock on effect in support / viewership kind of like what happened with the Currie cup in SA. If the star players are not there it will have less draw. They either need to double down and do whatever they need to do to keep the guys in NZ or let them go and find a way to keep SR/NPC well supported.

@@skibbitybopmdada There will definitely be fallow years, but Razor's goal, in my opinion, should be to blood youngsters in most of his squads and draw on the established players for the bigger tests. This would make Super Rugby a proving ground for the up and comers and give those who have already proven themselves options to earn money abroad. SA had to do this because many of their elite players were playing overseas. The situation in NZ is not as bad, largely because most of those elite overseas players are at the end of their careers, but they do not have the depth that SA have and that will always count against them in tight games.

I am an AB fan, but I always thought New Zealand has absolutely no chance whatsoever against South Africa considering the current skills of the teams. In a way, this is a great loss for NZ (almost a victory). Let us admit, NZ is not even a shadow of what they used to be. Their glory days are over and they are the 5th best team in the world today. They lack speed, power, motivation, tactical coaching, kicking, and even the hunger to win. Their lack of speed and almost walking speed line was badly exposed when they met Argentina before this. Even Barret has slowed down considerably over the years. Against England, it was a lucky survival a few weeks ago. They are going to be hammered by England at Twickenham and SA going to crush them by a bigger margin in the next match. ABs really need to reinvent themselves - the rest of the world has caught up with them. Infuse some fresh young blood into the mix. All they have now is an over-rated coach and an aging team. ABs should consider a temp retirement from rugby to get their problems fixed without humiliating themselves more. Please fire this idiotic coach before he does more harm. Guy is a sick joke. Backs are starting to sharpen up, but a few decisions with our kicking strategy could still do with some work and ideas. Only thing i would say is cortez shouldn't have come of the bench for his first test on SA home soil, would've started him and bring Tj of the bench, no knock on Teej, still performed well. Not going for that 3 to go 30 was crucial. Bench was not too bad, but the timing of bringing them on with only 10 points up to defend desperate just got penalties after penalties under immense pressure. Some bad ref calls didn't help like ofas yellow card killing momentum and losing composure hurt us. 10 is never enough to hold for 20 minutes against a ranked 1 side, so make smart decisions and seize the moment. On another Earth Sam Cane would have been handed his 2nd red in consecutive games against the Boks; their first try would have been pinged for shearing; their propensity for cynical play after being penalized at the breakdown in their 25 would have earned them four yellows, not one; Damian would have been blown for overrunning the clock by 5 seconds; and the repeated high tackles would have tallied 20+ penalties, not 14. But this is Earth where New Zealand's flagrant disregard of the rules and fair play amounts to nothing less than getting away with murder. By and large, South Africans have learnt to keep their mouths shut about the poor adjudicating, but it's exasperating watching you guys squealing about a try that would require a microscope to adjudicate. We ran out of puff - Ellis Park does that to touring teams - and currently we don’t have an amazing bench, whereas SA’s bench is now legendary. you know as a bok fan, past 20 yrs, we were a good team, basically expected to win every game, top team in the world, but have been so so far off the ABs. its been so frustrating being so good but being so far from the best. to finally hear AB pundits talk like this about the boks where 'this is our chance to win', is exactly what its been like for us all these years. dammit its nice. i do expect nzl to take the test in cpt though, may the best team win !

What went wrong in the last 20 Minutes against the Springboks? The South African Freight Train came at The ABs and they had not chance TJ needs to go immediately
@michaelD420X2 ай бұрын
The problem with teams are that they are struggling to play a full 80mins against the Springboks who have mastered a 80min game. The scary thing is that this SA team wasn't even the first choice full team and yet the Springboks were very tough.

1st try was lineout obstruction and should not have been allowed ( check it ) Boks first try was also not good, Sam Cane should have been yellow-carded for Kolesie Head tackle, there were lots of things missed. the better team won forget the Ref. The ref was kind to the All Blacks so many penalties there should have been more cards lol

The All Blacks handled the bom squad perfectly it was in the tight 5 Tupou Vai needed to come off around the 56th minute , he missed a vital tackle and should have been sub by Sam Darry as he was spent . The sin bin didn't help our cause Darry fresh would have slowed the south African forward pack enough for us to win the game , onto the next improving so much we will be a force , Go All Blacks.

I agree with Jeff on this one we need to evolve and choose our best players available from overseas. Imagine if we had our best players available for selection, Mo'unga, Leicester Fainga'anuku and Shannon Frizell and many more players who would make a massive impact on our team. The Boks do it why the fuck are we not allowed to do it. Shit doesn’t make sense to me.

Refereeing confounded me. Who is responsible for collapsing scrums? 14 penalties awarded to Springboks. Just five to NZ???

Bro it was one of the toughest games for both sides and great learning experience for both sides admittedly the boks got a get out jail card in the end though hopefully both sides learnt the lessons presented. The abs can walk out with their heads held high

I think Jeffs remarks is spot on. I looked at that all black line up and i though its in the bag. South africa had many inexperienced players. I think the winds are blowing the other way. All blacks used to be the team closing out games. Now the boks are doing it. again jeff is making gr8 remarks. All did but Jeffs questions is questions that needs answers.

Respect from SA. Blondie needs to remember that the Boks were very much sub par. Boks made many defensive errors, poor pass for that interception. The stats on the second half are very damming to the ABs - if memory serves Boks had 70% plus territory . On that yellow card - that was more to do with multiple infringements in the 22. One could argue that a yellow should have been issued earlier for other transgressions. Looking forward to CPT.

A lot of valid points. It'd be nice if we had a captain with a brain that can communicate too. Not sure who that would be, but it ain't the current roster.
@simondobson52782 ай бұрын
Scary the ABs played as well as they could, SA played poorly for 40 minutes. This is a weak AB team who are coached extremely well, we managed to out play the SA for most of the game. But the 6 replacement forwards made the difference in the last 15 minutes where we still hadn’t brought two of our forward replacements till about 10 minutes to go. Our back row were out on their feet towards the last 20 minutes making silly errors and poor judgement, same thing could be said of Beaudy who had his worst 10 minutes in an AB jersey toward# end of game, kicking the ball the last two possessions he had, The impact of the high Veldt was really noticeable as the game went on, our weaker bench contributing to the stronger SA finish.
@wesrobmat2 ай бұрын
10:44 I have to agree that the ABs bench was not up to scratch and that is one of the reasons the Boks pulled it back in the 2nd. Also be careful playing a Bok game against the Boks if you want to start using a 6-2 split the Boks will respond, no doubt. Keep to your game plan, execute. See you boys in the weekend for round two, good luck and GO BOKKE!

A few turning points that changed the game, the Perinara swearing incident with the ref, Tu'ungafasi yellow card, the springbok knock on and try awarded and Jordies aimless kicking lost us the game, however i believe we are on the track and starting to string things together

It was nice to hear on another NZ show how they recognize that both teams were awarded a try that they shouldn't have scored. They weren't fussed by it. Swings and round abouts.

We are students of the ABs over here in Sa. No disrespect but maybe you should discuss what the opposition did more than what you did. I think the boks tend to focus on the opposition not mainly themselves. Entertaining content though. Thanks

ABs lost the game when they brought on the bench. Two props did fine till the yellow, Codie should have stayed on. The backs should not have been switched. Get back the superstars, change the rules, it is the stars who make the game. Get Frizzell and Brodie and Aaron. Keep Cane in the fold. You work all those years to train and mold and coddle them. They are unique individuals. The 1 in a Billion human. They are good to have around the younger players.Invest in them and their future. It will make NZs rugby future better and richer.

I felt the last game was the first sign of a new level coming. The boys stood up to the SA forward pack on every level and our backs scored running tries, where were SA running tries? Just wait the tide is turning again

The last comment Super Rugby without the SA teams is not feeding thru - the losses and close calls seem to confirm that - are the Kiwi Super Rugby teams suffering are they getting enough hard edge competition experience for top AB selection?
