Bought the 357 version 2 months ago and love it. I have shot 100 rounds through it and had 1 FTF. It was a 38 spl, and it wouldn't strip off the top of the mag because I somehow got the rim of it BEHIND the rim of the round below it. Might have been my loading technique or the fact the 38 spl rounds are a bit shorter. Anyway, the other 99 ran through the gun flawlessly. Also, as he mentioned the bolt handle gets close to the scope. For the scope I had, I needed taller rings. Well kudos to Ruger - all it takes in a message to them and they will send you the taller rings for free! And these are REALLY nice rights. Very heavy and nicely machined. Anyway, love my 77/357 and highly recommend it. Very fun and the only bolt action rifles in pistol calibers being offered today, so they are unique.

I've had the .44 version for a few years now and I think it's a great gun overall. However the scope mounts are a pain, if you want to use something like a red dot/holo or acog style scope it's far from ideal, as you have to buy a third party rail etc, I've had many problems. Also I did also have an extraction problem, although different to this video, I paid a gunsmith who "reprofiled" the extractor, and has been working perfectly since with many many rounds being put through it. Otherwise I love it.

Today we review a Ruger 77/44, wherein I shall share my personal opinions the entire way through: I don't really like the rubber butt pad. I don't really like the cheek rise. I don't really like the super-clicky safety. I don't really like the magazine release or how the magazine fits in. I don't really like the scope mounts. I don't really like the trigger weight. I don't really like 44mag and it's soft shooting. I don't really like bolt release tab. I don't really like the folding rear sight. I don't really like the barrel, it's kind of thin. I don't really like the bolt throw distance. I don't really like 44mag for a bolt action. I don't really like the last round extraction. This might be a decent carry tool, if YOU'RE REALLY into 44mag, or a sensitive recoil youth. But the accuracy is kind of within an inch or two inch. Ehhhh. But it is pillar-bedded. This really isn't designed to be a tack driver anyways. It's definitely a cool rifle. So uh. Very interesting rifle. Didn't mean to rag on this thing. Very interesting, but definitely check it out.

I have the 77/357 in SS. I don't have an issue with the magazine. It is quirky to get in and out but many of guns are. Once you know how to it comes in and out very easily. My issue is my love/hate relationship with Ruger. They have excellent designs but their QC isn't the best. A missed step in the manufacturing process of my American Rimfire made it unusable and needed a gunsmith. I have other Rugers that were mishandled by the factory and should have not been shipped as they were.

MOST the problems he mentioned are user error, or just not knowing how to properly operate the gun. ALL of complaints he had are addressed in the manual. just because a gun ( or a car, or anything else) doesnt operate the way you are used too, doesnt mean its not good. ive driven fords for 40 years, do chevys suck? no, the controls are just different. learn to properly use what you have. As too the " clicking safety", about any safety made of METAL makes a clicking noise none of the deer (or coyotes) i have shot with mine ever noticed.

If it were , Volguartsen ( and others ) wouldn't have made a better idea. I am surprised that they have a bolt handle that swings up that high too. And get this, Peterson's pistol as well as Dirty Harry's is about 10 inches shorter than the 77/44! Plinking? Are you stupid? With the longer barrel you get anywhere from 300 - 500 more feet per second...which translates into about 30% more foot/lbs. of energy. There's a video of a guy hitting a 55 MPH sign sized steel target at 300 yards with Iron sights...over and over and over again! I always get a chuckle when armchair hunters think they are going to have to make 1,000 yard shots all the time! This small cannon will drop a white tail where it stands...and oh yea...there's that thing about the 14 foot tall Polar Bear too!

This gun is much better for beginners than a 243, the 243 will travel a great distance more than a 44 mag, a 243 is a great round but it travels too far for close range shooting you do not need a gun that goes over a mile to shooting something at 50 yd. Also the 44 mag is much better in the bush as it will not deflect as easy as a .243. I know people say all bullets deflect but some much more than others, I have shot a 44 mag through some bust in front of my target over and over and broke branches on the way and the bullet always hit the target, not so with a .223 or .243. I am not saying it will not deflect, but I have shot over 50 rounds and they all hit the target.

Are you purposely trying to shoot through brush??? Imho I would consider that irresponsible. I hunt regularly, with a variety of cartridges. I use 243, 7 mm-08, 308, 30-06. Everything I use works very well from 50-300. 243 being the exception, best used under 250, as it doesn't carry enough freight beyond that range for my ethical standard, if we are talking about deer. Fantastic round for coyotes out to 400 easily. Shot placement is key for any game and any situation. Pick a clear shooting lane, or don't shoot!
