Bought the 357 version 2 months ago and love it. I have shot 100 rounds through it and had 1 FTF. It was a 38 spl, and it wouldn't strip off the top of the mag because I somehow got the rim of it BEHIND the rim of the round below it. Might have been my loading technique or the fact the 38 spl rounds are a bit shorter. Anyway, the other 99 ran through the gun flawlessly. Also, as he mentioned the bolt handle gets close to the scope. For the scope I had, I needed taller rings. Well kudos to Ruger - all it takes in a message to them and they will send you the taller rings for free! And these are REALLY nice rights. Very heavy and nicely machined. Anyway, love my 77/357 and highly recommend it. Very fun and the only bolt action rifles in pistol calibers being offered today, so they are unique.

I picked up this rifle for Indiana Deer hunting on public land where we are limited on the calibers we can use. Has to be large pistol calibers or shotguns.. So this one works great. It's very popular in Indiana for those reasons

Same deal in lower Michigan too, have to use a straight walled cartridge over .35 cal so it's great. I'm actually considering picking one of these up and cutting it to 16" and threading it for my suppressor.

Great video and review. I love mine! It serves very well as a 'general purpose ranch rifle' being small and light, especially with just iron sights. As you said, a great short range cartridge and with the longer barrel (than a pistol) it provides a lot more punch for the magnum cartridge.

I've had the .44 version for a few years now and I think it's a great gun overall. However the scope mounts are a pain, if you want to use something like a red dot/holo or acog style scope it's far from ideal, as you have to buy a third party rail etc, I've had many problems. Also I did also have an extraction problem, although different to this video, I paid a gunsmith who "reprofiled" the extractor, and has been working perfectly since with many many rounds being put through it. Otherwise I love it.

Finally found Hornady Custom 44 Remington Magnum Ammo 240 Grain Hornady XTP Jacketed Hollow Point. Worked like a dream. Highly recommend you try it if you cant get it to group!

Today we review a Ruger 77/44, wherein I shall share my personal opinions the entire way through: I don't really like the rubber butt pad. I don't really like the cheek rise. I don't really like the super-clicky safety. I don't really like the magazine release or how the magazine fits in. I don't really like the scope mounts. I don't really like the trigger weight. I don't really like 44mag and it's soft shooting. I don't really like bolt release tab. I don't really like the folding rear sight. I don't really like the barrel, it's kind of thin. I don't really like the bolt throw distance. I don't really like 44mag for a bolt action. I don't really like the last round extraction. This might be a decent carry tool, if YOU'RE REALLY into 44mag, or a sensitive recoil youth. But the accuracy is kind of within an inch or two inch. Ehhhh. But it is pillar-bedded. This really isn't designed to be a tack driver anyways. It's definitely a cool rifle. So uh. Very interesting rifle. Didn't mean to rag on this thing. Very interesting, but definitely check it out.

I have the 77/357 in SS. I don't have an issue with the magazine. It is quirky to get in and out but many of guns are. Once you know how to it comes in and out very easily. My issue is my love/hate relationship with Ruger. They have excellent designs but their QC isn't the best. A missed step in the manufacturing process of my American Rimfire made it unusable and needed a gunsmith. I have other Rugers that were mishandled by the factory and should have not been shipped as they were.

yes. i have had mine for 14 years and have killed 13 deer with it , all 1 shot 1 kill. all shots 125 yds and under. my 10 year stepson killed his his 1st deer a 7 pt, this halloween during youth season. i have seen several reviews ragging on this rifle and i have had NONE of the problems they have mentioned. MOST the problems he mentioned are user error, or just not knowing how to properly operate the gun. ALL of complaints he had are addressed in the manual. just because a gun ( or a car, or anything else) doesnt operate the way you are used too, doesnt mean its not good. ive driven fords for 40 years, do chevys suck? no, the controls are just different. learn to properly use what you have. As too the " clicking safety", about any safety made of METAL makes a clicking noise none of the deer (or coyotes) i have shot with mine ever noticed.

The 44 mag is a short to medium range rifle and for that it is great . It also makes a great bush gun, and penetration is unreal at 50 to 75 yd it will go through any thing (using the wright bullet ) at about 30 yd i put it through my back stop witch is 4" x 4" about 8" of clay then 6" x 8", what more do you need. Love the gun and would recommend it for any one wanting to hunt close to medium range even for bear of moose.. I have and to wiggle the bolt with some factory loads but no trouble with my hand loads., and never had the last bullet stay in the gun.

Your rings are taller than mine. I lucked into a new old stock Stainless on synthetic camo 77/44. My Nikon buck master 3-9x40 is 1.5 to 2mm off the flipped down rear sight. The bolt is rather close to the back bell of the scope. I don't mind since it gives me a close sight to bore line. As for the clicking of the safety, they are deer not sonar techs lol.

I do like the idea of a pistol caliber carbine/rifle, but typical of Ruger with that darned magazine release. I know what you mean, and like you said, the 122 is not that easy either. If it were , Volguartsen ( and others ) wouldn't have made a better idea. I am surprised that they have a bolt handle that swings up that high too. You know, you'd thing that Ruger in making the stock for this one, might have thought of the great stock they have for the Ruger American Rimfire, in providing two options for the stock,..with scope, or with just sights. Thanks for this video, all the same, it is interesting to watch.

It is for short to medium range, most people do not need a scope for that range, wish I was one of them. at 70 my eyes are getting bad. tried red dot and did not like will have to put a scope on mine a 1.5 or 2 power so can use it in the bush .

I have one in .357, I agree with you about the most points. @@thebigfellar7178 🤣 real expert I see. 🤭 I said it's not worth it, cause there are much better caliber offerings that can take a animal down and some folks only have enough money to buy one rifle. So with other calibers with more power and capability it maybe better to get something else. 44 magnum is a phenomenal round and gets the job done in many aspects of hunting and especially if you pair this rifle with a revolver you have a great combo.

This guy acts like this rifle is a toy for kids! He didn't watch the video or go to the NRA Museum where they have the stuffed 14 foot tall Polar Bear that Peterson killed with a 44 magnum pistol! And get this, Peterson's pistol as well as Dirty Harry's is about 10 inches shorter than the 77/44! Plinking? Are you stupid? With the longer barrel you get anywhere from 300 - 500 more feet per second...which translates into about 30% more foot/lbs. of energy. There's a video of a guy hitting a 55 MPH sign sized steel target at 300 yards with Iron sights...over and over and over again! I always get a chuckle when armchair hunters think they are going to have to make 1,000 yard shots all the time! This small cannon will drop a white tail where it stands...and oh yea...there's that thing about the 14 foot tall Polar Bear too!

Also my recoil sensitive father may like to use it, be nice to get him back into the woods. 7.62x 39 is a good round for deer also with a little more range, 200 yrds or so..... ethically.

This gun is much better for beginners than a 243, the 243 will travel a great distance more than a 44 mag, a 243 is a great round but it travels too far for close range shooting you do not need a gun that goes over a mile to shooting something at 50 yd. Also the 44 mag is much better in the bush as it will not deflect as easy as a .243. I know people say all bullets deflect but some much more than others, I have shot a 44 mag through some bust in front of my target over and over and broke branches on the way and the bullet always hit the target, not so with a .223 or .243. I am not saying it will not deflect, but I have shot over 50 rounds and they all hit the target.

Are you purposely trying to shoot through brush??? Imho I would consider that irresponsible. I hunt regularly, with a variety of cartridges. I use 243, 7 mm-08, 308, 30-06. Everything I use works very well from 50-300. 243 being the exception, best used under 250, as it doesn't carry enough freight beyond that range for my ethical standard, if we are talking about deer. Fantastic round for coyotes out to 400 easily. Shot placement is key for any game and any situation. Pick a clear shooting lane, or don't shoot!

I just cant see it. A bolt gun in 357 & 44 Mag and coming in at 750 bucks in 2019. Na....Ill stick with my Marlin 1894. Its really stuff like this, that makes me wonder what the fuck ruger is doing sometimes. Now I would have loved to see a Mini 14 chambered in 357 mag. I would be all over that

He's not overly experienced in the gun world, but I guess he's trying! Good to see people interested in firearms at all these days.

Obvious you dont like it by the goofy way you handle it, also it's a Bush rifle for hunting in brushy terrain. Negative review you act like a chick trying a new bra.

Ruger markets this rifle to those who are have a higher shooting skill set thus usurping the need for the high cap magazines you’re accustomed to.
