Ruger American .308 upgrade! Magpul Hunter short action stock with 7.62 AC magazines

I didn’t either until recently. Magpul makes these for the 700 series rifles, savage rifles, 10/22’s, and several other brands. Worth checking it out.

@@crankygunreviews yeah have been familiar with the stock. Didn't know there was a higher cap mag that would pair with it. Out of curiosity will the Ruger factory mag still work with thr Magpul stock?

I have the base American Hunter - It is pretty wonderful. Kick is very manageable. The addition to the standard American @ 22" will work in your favor as well. Also, if you have yet to do so get a suppressor that is more for bolt-action than semiauto.

This is the base model American in .308, I just put the Magpul stock on it because I wanted a better one. The hunter is better with a muzzle brake, I know it’s unnecessary but I think they’re cool despite being louder, and they do help recoil/muzzle rise a little

I have the same rifle/stock setup and would love to use a break or suppressor but the Ruger American hunter 22" doesn't have have a threaded barrel. If you know of an adapter please let me know

I carried this rifle from the base of a mountain to subalpine with another 50lbs of gear. About 12km trail one way. I was wishing it was a lighter rifle on that trip. Have never done anything harder. Im glad I didnt use a 10 round mag.

@@JackHoff-cz3eq relative to what a car? Because relative to other hunting rifles it is definitely heavy. Hunting rifes, excluding outliers, weight between 5-9lbs. This rifle is just under 9lbs. That is literally on the highest end of weight for a hunting rifle so Im not really sure what you are talking about. Id love to see you carry 50lbs of gear on your back for 8 hours going up a 45degree incline. Try that and then tell me that 3-4 extra lbs isnt a lot.

I have the predator in 6.5 creedmoor. Like you I hated the factory stock and put a Magpul stock on mine. With the scope it now is a ten pound rifle! I regret this when climbing the mountains chasing the Coues deer here in Southern Arizona but not as much as I hated that flimsy factory stock.

Yeah, the factory stocks are about as little as you can do to hold the gun in a stock... The aluminum V block is cool, but that's about it. Cheek weld is terrible, and the light stock is punishing on recoil. My larger gauges I like a bit of heft, my small gauges like the 5.56 ranch or the 7.62x39 ranch I am fine with the lighter stocks and I just deal with the crummy cheek weld.

Thinking about this for Ranch but stock almost same price as rifle :/ Gladly pay double or more of rifle cost for a good scope but stock price is painful

Get the Ruger American ranch in 7.62x39 or 5.56 for a lighter, handier, or cheaper variant. Or get the Ruger American Rifle Hunter in 308 which already the Magpul stock onnit from the factory

I haven’t taken it back out yet. I will soon though. I doubt it will change accuracy much, the barrel was already floated. For me it was a comfort thing, and I like the Magpul stocks a whole lot

@ I'm tempted to get it. Is it really worth it? I have the Ruger American Gen 2 308 with a muzzle brake. Does the extra weight of this stock make it worth it? I do love it because it has more magazine options and they're cheaper. But paying that much for a stock idk. Convince me is what I'm saying lol I'm cheap.

No, YT calls that gunsmithing so I try to avoid those videos. It’s very easy.

It’s 2 screws for the action and 2 more for the mag well, that’s it. If you choose a small torque wrench can be used to the specs in the box.
