Ruger American Predator Review 6.5 Creedmoor: Winchester vs Hornady

Range test of my new Ruger 6.5 Creedmoor comparing Winchester 140 grain match bullets vs my hand loads of Hornady 100 grain A-max bullets. Mounted a CVLIFE scope from Amazon for $52.99, an Odin Atlas muzzlebrake, and a UTG Tactical Bipod.
This is a very good review with some good information. I intent on this 6.5 Creedmoor being my "do it all" hunting rife...because I only have one rifle. Please subscribe to my channel for future videos of predator hunting, bull elk hunts, cow elk hunts, mule deer hunts and more!
Tested on the range and also reviewed partly at home. I forgot to turn the microphone on at the range so I had to audio over the first part.

Hey man i am by no means a pro shooter but watching it in fast forward revealed something i thought i might bring up. It appears in the video that you have just the slightest trigger twitch. My shooting guru taught me to try to follow through with my eye because I was loosening my grip on the rifle just after i pulled the trigger. For me with exactly the same rifle shooting 140 ELD match that was the difference between the groups you are shooting and clover leafs at 100m with factory loads. Im sure you are an accomplished shooter I really dont mean to tell you your business, but after watching this video twice i saw some paralells between your shooting and my own. Great shooting anyways thanks for the video it actually had a huge part in my decision to pick one of these rifles up. Thanks man and keep making these vids :)

As a long time reloder I found that for better than average groups if have 100 cases weigh each primed empty case and put the ones to gather that have less than 2 grains different weight the difference between heaver to lighter can meen pressure difference because the heaviest will have less internal volume thus higher pressure which increase velocity also weigh bullets you might find the groups will shrink once you find the best powder charge

Very nice video and good shooting. Both the RA and the savage axis are both great shooting rifles for the money. With the right ammo both can be sub Moa all day. That being said they can be picky with ammo and when you up the price tag to something like a b14 hmr and pst gen 2 anything over 1/2 moa is disappointing, my best is a .2 10 shot group at 100 yards, but hitting a golf ball at 300 meters is easy, but you could buy 5 of the great setup that you have for what I’ve got into mine.

try comparing grip tensions and shoulder tensions see what combo works best. sometimes a handshake grip or light grip works, sometimes no grip tension works better, most BR shooters dont grip at at all. (hair trigger) combine those with different shoulder tensions and bipod tensios and you will find the perfect combo shooting the smallest groups. keep your thumb loose. thumbs only pull you off target, you dont need to wrap your thumb around at all. thumb tension is the enemy, dont forget to keep that trigger down and your bipod loaded. be safe, have fun. like we say in the military, breath, relax, aim squeeze do it right and youll be pleased.

Odin Works compensators make the world of difference when it comes to recoil. 6.5 Creedmoor is already relatively soft shooting compared to similar calibers but that Atlas break is just amazing at eating up the recoil

Number 279 here. Nobody was born slung with one of these so we all have a learning curve. This is the video that sends me to the gun store. I've been studying this rifle for awhile and I like the 6.5mm cartridge and Predator match up. Overall a great video. Take a look at the SWFA SS 6X42 scope as an upgrade. A lot of scope for the money. Get some decent glass and rings and you'll be making hits at a 1000 yards before you know it.

Since you're new to reloading, you have much to learn. Reloading will allow you to tailor your load to the rifle instead of just using a generic load. You need to load what I call a "series" of cartridges at 2 or 3 tenths of a grain increments through the charge range for your powder/bullet combo. Load 3 or 5 rounds at each increment. Do the research and find out what powders are working best for your caliber and go from there. I would also invest in a Hornady OAL gauge so that you can find where your chosen bullet meets the rifling then adjust your bullet seating to get 5 to 10 thousandths off the rifling. Short jumps work best for accuracy. As you shoot them at the range, you'll notice the groups open up and tighten up through the series, choose your best grouping to load at and you can play with little tweaks to try to tighten it further. You should be able to get that Ruger to shoot under 1/2 MOA... one hole groups are the joy of reloading. With my Savage Model 10 in .308 Win, I've shot groups as small as .163 inches and consistently under a quarter inch. The right combination of case prep, primer, powder, bullet, and seating can produce results from some off the shelf rifles that will rival high end custom rifles.

Man, don't worry about that first group of handloads. A little tweaking is all you need. Heavier bullet is my guess. Then dial the powder charge in. If that rifle is sub inch with factory ammo, you'll be half inch with the right load.

I know it's been awhile since you made the video but I liked the video I learned like you about reloading I loaded a bunch of rounds of mediocre loads at first instead of loading up 3 rounds of each powder charge at a safe charge then going up in 1/10th graiin increments till I found the most accurate load and then experimenting with seating depths but hey I had a good time learning the hard way now I'm better off for it. Safe hunting and shooting to you guy.

Excellent shooting but WHY hold the fore arm when using a rest?? I took my 6.5 CM RAP and added a Timmy trigger (best accuracy upgrade you can make for a RAP). Also I added a Boyd's Classic laminated stock and Brownell's $29. Savage 110 metal trigger guard to replace the cheap plastic guard Boyd's supplies. As you can see, Ruger American Predator rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor shoot very well for a hunting rifle at ANY price. My upgrades merely helped the inherent accuracy of the RAP. Eric B.

The rifle arrived today and I dialed in the scope just a couple hours ago kzbin.infoUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL . I haven’t shot with a scope in probably 25 years. The X on the left was my target. (the shot almost in the bullseye on the right X was my father in laws first shot after I made adjustments) The two shots circled are my first 2 shots. Then I brought it down - shot once. Then brought it over to the left. From there zeroed it in to dead center. This all was from 25 yards out. Follow instructions carefully when mounting the scope. So far I'm very happy with the purchase.

@FlexmarkOutdoors
@FlexmarkOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Sure. I work on a cheap budget! These are just hand held video cameras that don't cost more than $230 on tripods. I had a camera on me at the shooting table, and then one set up just below the target downrange. Hit record, then walk back and shoot. Approach the target after shooting and turn off the camera. Then I've got the two perspectives of the shooting.

Dude, Doing your own loads is the best. Try different powders/primers & bullett combos, Also different velocities. Sometimes slowing em down a tad improves accuracy. Make SURE to use a good digital scale & EXACT powder weights round to round. Once you find your "sweet spot" load, stick w it. I found heavier bulletts work the best. Exact crimping also insures good powder ignition, but most tournament shooters just barely seat their bulletts. Fireforming your cases also improves accuracy but makes em "sticky" (neck resizing/length cutting only) Also, inside reaming of your primer holes clears internal burrs that cause "sideflash" ignition. Simply getting rid of thoes internal punch tits gives more uniform ignition too. Round to round uniformity is EVERYTHING. Reloading IS ADDICTIVE. Running a cleaning solvent patch every 40-50 rounds also helps. Good luck & happy shooting.

that lead sled is killing your group and damaging your stock.....all the energy from the recoil is going right into the stock and the rifle has no place to go but up.....shoot off a bag or tripod and ditch that sled...

How does it work for hunting whitetail?
@FlexmarkOutdoors
@FlexmarkOutdoors 6 жыл бұрын
Never killed a whitetail w it. There are likely better rounds for whitetail bc those are typically shorter range shots on whitetail but the 125 grain deer xp by Winchester is an amazing deer round for the 6.5. Hopefully I’ll get my mule deer with it this year. Shot a mule deer 2 years ago w this same gun but calibered in .243.

+Thestreamerstripper Whether the scope holds it's zero will be an ongoing investigation on my part. So far, for $52 at short range shooting it has been great. I also went with the Weaver 6 screw rings to help ensure stability.

Thumbs up... Dude, you paid $69.89 for that muzzle brake, and I bought a Terminator TT for over $300 Cnd... I feel I got ripped off somehow???? I must say though, I dont even have to put my shoulder into the butt stock, recoil is no more than 2 inches. BTW I have the RPR 6.5creedmoor. For 6.5CM reloading i'm following moparmadman, if you're interested to check out his channel...Cheers Eh :) ((( I will for sure buy the Ruger Predator in 6mm Creedmoor this summer, as I am totally broke getting everything i need for the RPR )))

The test isn't fair to the gun or ammo, when using the cheapest items on amazon . Not setting the rifle up correctly! Marginal results at best when using low end accessories.
@jimmyjones4985
@jimmyjones4985 3 жыл бұрын
You expect to get good performance out of a crapy 50 dollar scope , your scope should cost as much as your rifle. A cheap scope is like a steering wheel thats not connected to your front wheels , you'll end up all over the place when you start adjusting your scope , have some dignity and pay for a decent scope that you can depend on.

BTW, I tried to install the Oden Atlas Muzzle Brake on my Ruger American 6.5 but it was tightish after about 5 turns. I stopped because I didn't want to mess up my threads on the rifle. You claim a review with Winchester and Hornady not Hornady reloads, when comparing ammo one can't take a factory and justify it against a personal reload, you should have factory Hornady as well. This video helps nothing, just shows off your rifle which is most of the review. I have some of the Winchester and was hoping for a good comparison.
@FlexmarkOutdoors
@FlexmarkOutdoors 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry you weren’t impressed. It was mainly a rifle review and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Some good comparisons of factory loads would also be a great idea.
