Found your channel while considering a predator 6.5 that I found like new at a pawn shop. What a good buy! So far, I've added a 4-14x40 scope, bipod, and SJC Titan brake. Haven't taken it out beyond 100 yds, but shot a 4 round group last weekend which measured 3/8 inch. Being a sub MOA greenhorn, this was exciting!

I just picked this rifle up on Friday! I got the combo with the vortex crossfire II mounted to it. $668 out the door. I watched a few videos of this rifle hitting out to 1 mile. And that’s pretty much the reason I bought it. Decent budget rifle that can reach out to a mile with a few minor mods. I’m in for it. Going to local range to site it in Saturday! Pretty excited!

I've been doing research for some time on a variety of 6.5CM and .308 as a target/general purpose rifle. I love your setup and after seeing you shoot at 1000 I went all in. I'm looking forward to getting an optic and bipod for it as they become reasonably obtainable. Very nice shooting by the way.

I have watched your videos several times, and I have decided to put down the cash for the Ruger American Predator rifle. I was thinking about buying Tikka T3X that is more money, but after your videos I will be getting the Ruger Predator. For a rifle under $500, it can not be beat. Thank you for doing such GREAT videos!

@@evan5262 Well, I got the Ruger American Predator in 223 if it wasn't for the cheap rifle stock an 'A+' rifle all the way! Went to the range and fired over fifty rounds, and finishing up the day with accuracy testing twenty rounds of Hornady's red box cheap stuff 55 grains putting into around at 1" 100 yards factory trigger. I installed a reduced weight spring now set at 2 pounds target shooting the reason.

Really Nice Job on your Ruger. This is what this rifle was made for. I like that us average guys can tinker and make them a little better and personalize them. I just ordered mine last week and bought a Harris pod for it. I went ahead and ordered a Brownells/MDT aluminum chassis stock for it. (currently on BO) I will just have fun shooting it until it arrives Nice shooting! Happy New Year!

hey Josh and to everyone else who's reading I went a step further on the trigger job I actually knocked out the 2 roll pins and removed the whole assembly then I polished I removed the trigger and polished it just like you did but I also polished the arm inside of the trigger assembly didn't take much I cut the pieces of sand paper I was using to fit the small flat I used to get in there with and I also polished the top side of the hammer where it contacts the bolt then I presumed to polish the bolt where it contacts at and I also polished the bottom of the slide and let me tell you omg better than any geissle or timney trigger I've ever installed and be careful not to breath on it to hard lol but seriously there's absolutely 0 creep and it's as smooth as a baby's bottom hopes this helps yall out

If you're having some troubles or dislikes with the stock, you could get one from Boyd's. I have a classic laminate on my rifle and its so much more stable now. Excellent videos!

Good job on the mile....I have the same rifle....with a Vortex Crossfire 6x18 on it....been shooting out to 300yds as thats all my club has....we are reloading 120A-MAX using Varget and its OK....I want to get a Boyds Stock....all in all I really like this rifle....for the price you can't go wrong....thanks for sharing

I know this is an old video but once I decided to get a 6.5creed I found your channel. I took many notes as to what I needed to do . I am happy to report that my American predator out of the box is truly free floated . All the way to the castle nut . My stock is pretty solid with minimal flex . I would say no more then another plastic stock . My trigger is very crisp and suprises you . No creep at all . It is a little heavy for my taste though. My rifle seems to be fairly heavy as well. I'll weigh it at some point but I'm guessing 10-11 pounds fully dressed . I dunno if mine is good because it's a lefty or if ruger herd the issues and addressed them but I think this rifle is fine . My only real complaint is the action . It is chunky with 2 solid ??? Clicks . I much prefer my savage bolt . Smooth like butter.

awesome rifle I just bought I for my 14 yr old son got it about a month ago I think I have fell in love with it more than he has we've shot 1in moa at 900 yds with it thanks Josh for the information you've provided me definitely worth adding the weight to it and muzzle brake other then the problem with the stock I had to do the same thing as far as shaving it down a little to keep it from touching the barrel it wasn't much but then again it doesn't take much but again thank you so much for the videos and your responses to me really grateful for the help

Very informative Sir you’ve done this review of this gun justice I’ve been eyeing this gun but they have a hunter version with a better stock but I would opt out and get the chassis you mention, what grain were you using? I heard the Hornady 147 is a good load .

I have the exact rifle, but put a vortex 4 x 16 /50 with 30mm vortex rings. I put my scope down the barrel and this cold hammer forged barrel is 5R rifled. I also found the Tupperware stock is not at all free floating. The front of it is in contact. I sanded and dremeled it back. However it has too much flex, put some weight on it and it does again touch, even with clearing enough plastic to slide 10 sheets of paper between the barrel and stock. I know at this stage I would have to put more weight on it, like you did. I decided if I am going to put some fiberglass and epoxy in the stock to stiffen it up, I am instead putting it in a Boyds stock and bedding it. Prefer the wood feel when it is cold out on a hunt. I actually like the small mags. as this is primarily a hunting rifle. I can still put the rifle on my shoulder at the magazine location, and it is flat to the stock there. If I wanted to use it in a competition format a larger AICS mag in a chassis would make perfect sense, and that is possible. Note: there is a model that comes factory (now) with the AICS mags instead of the small 4round mag.

get yourself the MDT chassis system, they are great for the money and also give you the removable mag. Magpul has their AICS version pmag that has the longest seating for hand loaders. you will find better accuracy with the chassis system and a 10 shot mag i know you want to run.

I use Hybrid 100,, 40 Gr's,, 140 gr, game king, WLR PRIMER,, and also, I use all the same but with Seller & Bellot LR primers with superb results. I have (2) 6.5 Creedmoors one is the Browning AB3 and the Ruger American predator, I bought today. I wish I had had this rifle in Vietnam instead of my pre 64 Mod. 70 .308,,,but anyway give this load a go and see how you like it.

Both my ruger American predators are only a year old so they have a very much improved stock and they use the AI style magazine plenty of clearance as far as free floating barrel much stiffer than original

Still waiting for my Predator to be delivered (26973). Paid $414. Got Athlon Helos 6x24-50 scope for $420. Vortex 30Med rings ($59), Vortex Bubble ($34), UTG Bipod ($47), EGW 20 MOA rail ($36), and Magpul stock already ($220). Thought I'd get 20 round magazines, but they don't fit. Ordering the Brown Follower 5 round magazines that do. Hoping to get some long range shots down range. Great codes and information. $1230 hopefully I can get 1250 yards accurately.

I have watched you almost from the beginning with that Ruger American Predator rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor plus you have kept the same rifle stock on it. Most people would have gotten rid of it and placed the barrel action into a better stock, but not you. So, since you have done that, I will follow the same rule. I have done one thing, that is, changed out the trigger spring, decreasing the pull weight to two pounds.

That stock is made like that so it is light weight, that gone before you made it heavy was 6.5 pounds, most rifles that size are 8-10 pounds

Yeah they fit. I load everything to fit in the mag. Sometimes I use it and other I don't.

I'm still torn between this Ruger, or the Savage 10 FCP-SR in 6.5. Have you tried any of the Hornady factory ammo or strictly your own loads? What's the average price per round when you make your own? I'm not set up to load my own, and the price of available ammo is what's keeping me from committing to either rifle. Nice shooting too. Love seeing the mile shots!

I started out with the 140g ELD Factory ammo. I bought 100 rounds of it. It shot very well. My 1000 yard video was shot with factory ammo. I am loading for about $.60 a round. Factory ammo was running $1.25 a round.

I liked your review and I gave it a Thumbs Up, but I wish to heck that you would have just taken it out of the box and tested it, because with the modifications you did to it, it's not a Ruger AP anymore, it's a gun that you've done some adjustments on and additions to from butt to muzzle. I don't have the skills or tools or materials that you have, and so I would probably end up spending as much money on the AP plus gunsmithing as I would pay for a Savage 110 Desert Tactical that would perform at the same level out of the box. Which is why I'm going to buy the Savage.

I never thought about doing a video on the forearm. I just got some bondo fiberglass and filled all the cavities in the stock with a putty knife, and sanded it smooth. As far as the butt stock. Just get something that weights about a pound or so, A few wheel weights would work. Tape them together put them in the stock and stuff some old rags or t shirts to keep them from moving around. Just something to give the stock some balance.

I really like the sightron scopes and after doing lots of research i believe i will purchase one and put on my ruger american predator 6.5. How do you like the scope and which model sightron is it that you have?. Ive been looking at the sightron siii 6-24x50 lr moa, model # 25127. What are your thoughts on that model scope im currently looking at?. Thank you

I love it. The adjustments are spot on and crystal clear. It a bit pricey though at about $750-850 depending where you get it. The item # is 25127 and is the Siii 6-24x50 MOA. I just got another Sightron in the mail today for a 22. Its a SIH-TAC 3-9x40. It seems to be a nice scope for the $120 range. I'll be doing some videos on it in the next few days.

If ruger put any more money into the stock it would cost more money. It's the same barrelled action as the rpr. And trigger. So for 400 bucks you could buy a chassis and for a total of 800 bucks you've got an rpr basically.

Everett Morash it is most definitely not the equal of the RPR for 800 bucks. I have both the predator in 6.5 and the RPR in the same. The predator shoots WAY above its price range DO NOT get me wrong but the RPR with my hand loads (140 gr ELD match, 42gr H4350, Hornady brass, CCI bench rest primers loaded to 2.830 COAL) is a 1/4 MOA gun all day. The predator with the same hand loads will consistently shoot just over 3/4 MOA. The RPR upper is machined to better tolerances and the RPR barrel is match grade with 5R rifling. You can buy an off the shelf RPR and go out and compete in PRS. Not quite so with the predator. The predator is an AMAZING rifle and shoots WAY beyond its price tag! I recommend them to everyone I know looking for a good low budget diet bolt gun and wish I had two more but it is not even close to the RPR in inherent accuracy. The trigger on the RPR is also SIGNIFICANTLY better than the predator.

I never shot the gun without it. I do like it for the reason I spot all my own shots and I stay on target a lot easier, and it has almost no recoil.

I have heard of them, but don't know anything about them. The only aftermarket stock I own is a Boyds that is on my Savage MK11FVSR 22lr. I really like it. If I were to put one on my Ruger American, I would probably try the Magpul American Hunter.

@@243Outdoors I think Magpul is a good brand but I think it looks blocky. I am gonna try one from stockys they have the same style of mounting blocks like the ruger. When I get it completed I send out some pics and comments.

What was your process to polish your bolt?

I just put some polishing compound on the bolt, it's kind of like a runny toothpaste, and worked the bolt with my Dremel, with a polishing bit.

Oh Yeah. I once shot a 6 shot group at 1000yds with it measuring 11 7/8 inches or 1.1875MOA. After about 50-75 rounds through the gun it has shot basically everything under 1 moa at 100yds.
