We spend some time on the range with the Ruger GP 100 Match Champion. Very impressed with the balance of the gun, its trigger and sights. If you're looking for a superior revolver, the Match Champion might be for you.

Thank you for making such a complete review. I originally was all set to purchase the S&W 686 Pro Series but I started to read about the Cant and poor customer service and so I'm REALLY drawn away from the S&W and started to look at the Rugar GP100 match champion.

I love my Ruger Match Champion 357. I can hand load it VERY HOT and I can handload is very light in .38 spcl I can shoot factory 357 38 +P and 38 spcl. I do not need it for any kind of personal protection. I just love shooting it. (I have a S&W 39-2 in the night stand) I have a CZ97B and a Spfld 1911 A1 9mm .. but I love the 357 revolver.. oh since 1963 I enjoy shooting (since I was a kid in the 1940s)

Yes I've done a few in the past. Check out kzbin.info/www/bejne/j4iTm6yDmseGopI The Match Champion is better balanced than the stock version . In fact the balance is exceptional . I really think this is a superior revolver and big upgrade from the stock GP100!

Rugers GP100 series are nice revolvers. But they could benefit from a mid-weight barrel and a smoother, lighter, DA pull.
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC5 ай бұрын
Sir, I couldn’t agree with you more. I’m sure any good gunsmith could take the Ruger and smooth out the action. However, I found greater success with Smith & Wesson revolvers for an out-of-the-box decent trigger. I appreciate you watching and commenting and hope you will subscribe to the channel and share it with friends and family.

Nice review. I've been eyeing the 686 and GP100 for quite a while, then Ruger came out with an 8 shot Redhawk. Is it worth the extra money for a home defense/ range gun?

I own both 686+ in 4 inch and the ruger redhawk in 5.5 inch.
@_gabrielrios_48455 жыл бұрын
The 686 would be better for home defense the redhawk is great too but more outdoor. They both come in wide variety of barrel sizes. Dont know your preference

Is the rear sight adjustable for windage and elevation?
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC5 ай бұрын
I don’t believe it is. It’s a Novak fixed rear site. My revolver shot point of a point of impact. So no issues there. However, I do believe there is a model with an adjustable rear site if that’s what you’re looking for. Basically same gun with different sites. I appreciate you watching and commenting and hope you will subscribe to the channel and share it with friends and family.

Man i love my 1987 ruger gp100 (clearly modified, possibly a wiley Wiley Clapp but i dont think they made Clapps back then) and like Ayoub recommends i use high power 125 grain magnum loads in it. While heavy, if my shrapnel addled ass can handle it, im sure most of you could unless you're all sissies
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC4 жыл бұрын
This version is great!

Fiber optic site and grips are nice. Justified or not, still consider it inferior to the 686. FYI, this video's teaser image reads, ".375 Magnum."
@davidgiles97515 жыл бұрын
Yet the Match Champion shoots better than the 686 for me. There's something about the grip on the Ruger vs. the grip on the Smith. For me, the Ruger points very naturally, whereas with the Smith, I have to make a minor adjustment when I bring it up to aim. The Ruger is also built like a freakin' tank, and is less expensive to boot (as compared to the 686 pro).
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC5 жыл бұрын
I own the 686 and it's an exceptional revolver. That being said, the Ruger is a really beautiful revolver. And as noted by David in his comments, it's a natural pointing revolver... perhaps it's the grips but wow when I bring the gun to the target the sights are naturally aligned. Hope to do a side by side comparison video with the 686 and the GP100 in the coming weeks.

What I’ve noticed is .357 magnum is a very inherently accurate round, more so than most other handgun cartridges. However, I’ve shot my 4” .357 magnum with full power .357 mag in low light situations since I use it for home defense occasionally and the flash and sound is just too much for shooting indoors in low light situations. It could be done but it’s just not ideal. You see the flash and hear how loud it is outside during the day, imagine at 3 or 4 in the morning in your living room
@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. I agree .357 mags are very accurate. At the same time they produce a good deal of concision and muzzle flash especially in low light conditions. If I were selecting a load for home defense (inside the home), I'd want to take those factors into consideration.
@andhanwer5 жыл бұрын
there is no such thing as "inherently accurate" caliber.
@protectiverailroaddad75415 жыл бұрын
amlite you are wrong. Faster flat shooting rounds are inherently more accurate. Rounds like .357 magnum are more accurate than .38 special and .357 sig is more accurate than 40 s&w. Average to below average shooters won’t be able to make a discernible difference because they most likely can’t consistently shoot tight groups anyways. In the hands of good to very good shooters some rounds are most certainly inherently more accurate. I’m not talking about mechanical accuracy of a gun, I’m talking about rounds that really show how accurate they are at distance past let’s say 50 yards. At self defense ranges it doesn’t really matter
@andhanwer5 жыл бұрын

Guns, Gear & On Target Training, LLC yes you are right. Do some low light shooting with full power .357 magnum vs say 9mm or 45 acp and see/hear/feel the difference lol. With that said I still use my .357 for home defense on occasion
