I appreciated the video, as I always do. This one hit a little close to home as I recently did the "Buying a .380" routine myself. Wife has Rheumatoid Arthritis and is causes issues with her wrists and knuckles. She could no longer fire a small 9mm.. so we decided to bring it down to a .380. After watching video and reading reviews we decided on a Ruger LCP.. good reviews, and under $200 said Win/Win to me! Until I fired one.. I borrowed one from a friend and we both shot it.. recoil on that gun is more than I expected and the wife was not happy.. next step was the Glock 40 in .380.. awesome gun, she loved the ergonomics of the grip, but was unable to work the slide on it.. literally no strength to work it. Gun Salesman decides to show her how to 1 hand cock it by putting the front site on a hard surface.. I politely told him not to do that.. (I was shocked..).. on a whim we looked at the Sig P238.. it was small, felt amazing in the hand.. and the recoil is easily managable.. she could also easily work the slide and the trigger is top notch. It is 1911 pattern so the controls were intuitive. Fired maybe 250rds through it and it is a solid performer.. granted it was by far the most expensive 380 I had ever seen.. but it is a Cadillac in a market of polymer pocket pistols. So if you are dealing with hand strength issues or similar to what my wife endures, and some of the other options don't work.. look at the Sig, it really is a great pistol

Thank you very kindly for posting this. I've been looking at exactly this gun (same color and everything) and I'm so happy to see someone review it. Its pretty much solidified my decision. Plus its a good carry gun when I move to a more 2A friendly state that has far more reasonable carry laws. Also looking at it against the 9mm is super nice.

I run ems in North Carolina and 380 gunshot wounds are gnarly. So are 9, 40, 45, etc. in my experience, people tend to have more holes in them when the calibers are smaller. I feel it is because of the lighter recoil which makes for quicker follow ups without really having to adjust as much. Most of the shooters tend not aim very well from the get go. You’d be surprised how many people get shot with smaller calibers and don’t live. Anyway, my 2 cents. Love the videos Hickok. I’ll definitely be picking up a 380 for when it gets hot.

Practice with your 40S&W more, then quite *possibly* you won't miss so much. Considering how Hickok was not finding the target with THAT 380, the attempt at a snarky proverb didn't quite pass muster. Trigger quality still matters and the hammer LCs (380, 9mm) have never been all that great. Even Ruger admitted as much when the striker LCs were introduced.

A hit with a 380 is better than your 9mm, 40, or anything else still under the car seat or home on the dresser because I'm just running to the Quick Mart for a gallon of milk. If I knew I'd need a gun I'd take something larger than 380 but since it's unlikely I'll take my chances with it because I don't mind carrying it everywhere everyday. If the bad guy is more than 15 yards away retreat to cover and call the police. If he's closer it would be hard to miss and a couple rounds of 380 center mass or head shots will do.

I carry the LCP380. I have the knife style clip on the side of it. It fits perfect inside my right hand pocket without a holster. Might not be a 9 but it still will do the job. The LC9s is a little to big to carry inside my pocket without a holster.
@generalcaeser91766 жыл бұрын
I have the Ruger LCP 380 II (after replacing the 1 gen) and It serves one purpose only. It's a good tiny backup gun. You put it in your pocket and forget about it. It's not fun to shoot as it is so light it puts a real shock to your hand. There is however little ballistic difference in a defensive situation between 9mm and 380 auto. If you were shooting at any range over say 40 yards or so, I assume a 9mm would start to show an advantage. In the end the Ruger LCP 2 in 380 is a great option for a pocket / backup gun. No other micro 380 compares. At $229 or so it a good value and if you do your research none other compare all things being equal.

michael richey: thank you my friend. i had 2 issues with the G43... only 6+1 & larger over-all size. i ruled it out when buying the LC9s-Pro because of those 2 issues. in that genre (single stack 9mm carry) min i wanted was 7+1 and i wanted it as small as possible. between the shield9 & the LC9s-Pro i kind of wish i had selected the shield9 because i like it's features better. respectfully, i was disappointed with glock in the G43 (too big / small capacity). i'm interested in the p365 because they have increased capacity and made it a little bit smaller. those 2 things matter big-time to me because i carry my gun all of time and comfort matters too. i think the positive of the G43 is dependability wouldn't you say?

The Shield EZ 380 is out and it is supposed to be the softest shooting gun to date(barring a 22 of course). 8 rounds of 380 in a flush fit magazine. Its not a 9mm but the shield can be snappy for some shooters. My wife loves hers for the grip and hates my 26, however for the same grip profile and faster shots with less muzzle rise. Its definitely going to be a contender. Also Ruger has the EC9s now for around what would be the $250 mark on average just with milled sights. Its getting easier and easier to get a "quality handgun" for carry.

I still carry my 9mm when i can, but the 22 magnun is so nice and with an extra 22lr cylinder, practice is extremely cheap and one box lasts a long time. I've never been into the larger auto calibers. Outside of specialty guns like NAA minis or meme guns like Desert Eagles, to me pistols are for fighting and revolvers are for magnums. Calibers like 40sw, 10mm, and 45acp kind of take away from the benefit of autoloaders.

I have two of the Ruger LC 380s gathering dust but still too hard for wife to manage. The new Smith and Wesson 380 EZ blows it out of the water. I have two of them and this is the gun my wife can handle. Great trigger < 5 lbs and a really superior gun in every way to the lc380. Hope you get one from buds. It is the best over the lc380 and the pk380. The lc380 seems easy with your giant hands but for get it for the ladies. Hope you get one of the new Smith and Wesson m&p 380 EZ. Also much easier to break down. Just huge improvement over any of the others .you don't need tools to take down. Hope you check it out. No magazine disconnect either and available with or without thumb safety. I have two Rugers I will sell you cheap. Underwood Lehigh ammo is a great ammo to use for self defense Let's see sw 380 ez better in every way. Easy rack, great trigger, easy to take down and load. The underwood Lehigh 380 ammo gives you penetration and expansion. Expensive ammo but worth it. Ther is already a 2000 round review of the new Smith and Wesson and it is really a very nice little gun for the ladies and us old men that can't rack our old guns so well any more. Also very pleasant to shoot so much longer range days.

Is the slide supposed to be semi lose on top. Kind of rattles and wobbles a little, is this normal. I can also kind of see the spring through the middle. Is that normal as well? Thanks

Never shot let alone held a lc9. I have a two glocks and love them and have thought about buying a 43. What would you prefer a lc9s or g43....for a big guy like yourself?

Some of you older ladies who carry.( Or know one)...I have a question....My 87 year old mother carries a S&W airweight revolver( Model 637, she insisted on the hammer) in the "carry" pocket of her purse....She's wondered about getting the Ruger LC380....Plus a friend at church has one. How lighter is the Ruger? How hard is it to " pull" the slide? Are their any positives other than a couple more rounds?

I'm confused. I just bought the LCP 380 and it doesn't have a safety or lock back after the last round. Has that one been modified or is that the LCP 2?

I really wanna U do some videos on some slim body guns. I had a slim body Taurus 40 for awhile which was a really good edv because of the size. It was good within breathing distance but after that it wasnt close to the best. Id like to find a solid all around slim body gun in a larger caliber. Not really a big 380 fan personally. Any suggestions???

I stopped buying hollow points for my LCP. The velocity isn't high enough to get any expansion.
