I have been installing red-dots on every iron sight rifle/carbine I own. I have unfortunately reached the age of not being able to see up close and iron sights are just to blurry to use. Glad to see you reviewing this sight for it has caught my interests and I put weight in your regular guy assessments.

I am the same way, they eyes are not cooperating as much anymore. One optic I really like for aging eyes is the holosun 3x prism optic (the one the size of a T2). Excellent optic.

I really like the Ruger Mini 14. The more I see it the more I like it.

Some folks don't like them because they aren't precision, match-grade target rifles. What they are is light, handy, very reliable and pie-plate accurate at 100 yards. I call that minute of antifa.

I suspect that flyer on the first target was from your second shot. That one had a large fireball from the muzzle where the others didn't.

Very nice setup on your Mini-14! I received a brand new mini-14 for my 18th birthday. It was made very close to when yours was. This past year I put the Samson A-TM stock and Hannibal rail on it. Mine has the Holosun 508t red dot on it.

I have a similar setup on my Mini14. Ultimak rail and a Holosun HS503GU. (Sadly discontinued) Instead of just a dot it has the circle with a dot. The Ultimak is just a straight Picitinny rail. I love that setup! I have used scopes on Mini 14's for years. I like the red dot a lot more! I really like that Samson rail with the different mounts, as well as the Picatinny section. That's pretty slick. If I were to do it over, I would go with the Sanmson. I can hit a dinner plate size AR 500 steel target out to 300 yards no problem with that setup. I have a couple of buddies that were Marines and they are die hard AR guys. I let them shoot my Mini, and they loved it. One of them bought his own Mini soon after that. Great video!

PMC in 556 any bullet weight is the most accurate FMJ cartridge in my AR 15s. When I sight in a new optic or rifle, PMC 193 is always my benchmark round.

Super cool. I love vortex optics, I have a Vortex Spitfire 1X on my mini-30. It's 4 inches long still very compact, what I love about it is that it has an etched reticle. If the battery dies or electronics fail, you still have that reticle. It also has red and green illumination. Holds zero perfect. When I bought it, they didn't have them with magnification. I think they go up to 3x now. Love watching your video's! Happy New Year!

Nice video. I used to have a mini, a 580 series, mounted a scope & couldn't hit a bullseye on the target & most times not even the paper the bullseye was on. So traded it on a stainless model, mounted another scope. Yep, same thing, scope or no scope it wouldn't shoot close to any AR I had shot. I love the feel & looks of the mini over the AR. Thing is I like to be able to hit targets, coyotes, fox, and any varmint with 250yds. Not with the mini.

Thanks for the vid! I really like the Mini 14 - I used to have one - it was a stainless and blond wood Indiana State Police trade-in. It was very cool with bayo lug and bird cage flash hider. The thing I don't like about these - and apparently the new ones still have it... is the so-so accuracy. My old one shot pretty good but had a wandering zero. It was fine for social work but my OCD made me gravitate to the AR platform. My AR's shoot into a very small group at 50 yards and hold their zero.

I have the Ultimak rail on mine with a Bushnell red dot and I can co-witness the irons with. Santa brought me a folding stock. There are a couple of cons though, if the rail gets hot it'll start stringing shots high and I don't have enough rail for the red dot, flashlight, and laser.

I like Rugers. I have 5 different 10/22s and a PC Carbine chambered in 9mm. I've been waiting for the Mini 14 to go on sale because right now the least expensive model is over a $1000 dollars which I think is over priced. Maybe someday.

I agree with the red dot versus green dot. I am 50 now and I used to love red dot but it is so hard to see versus green. I recently bought 2 Sig Romeo 7 S for 2 off my rifles. They are green dot only. I can see them so good on a bright sunny day.

I’m pretty sure I commented so on your video when you tried steel ammo, but I dunno if you ever saw it. You’ve likely sold the mini-30 by now, but it is interchangeable with the mini-14 if interested.

I like electronic sights have a old Millett on a pistol a eotech with magnifier on a rifle a holoson on another pistol and a lighted reticle on a airgun. Welders eyes and it helps.

Aluminum absorbs heat very fast, making it very hot, I don't know if another type of metal may help, but I think so. I am not an expert but there is always an advantage and disadvantage with metals and guns, but I think you can get a better metal. 2:05

My hannibal rail gets really hot after a mag or 2 of shooting. The red dot gets really hot also. Don't know how long it will last getting that hot.

The optic will be fine on your mini 30. Have a chip red dot on Ak platform and I have had zero trouble with it! And with Vortex warranty, you have nothing to lose.

Lock tite a must used blue loctite on mine and when it gets hot screws will still come loose. Otherwise awesome.

With astigmatisms that can't be compensated for fully with glasses, I end up using prism scopes instead. Now, they make 1X prisms, so they're astigmatism safe but are close in performance to a red dot. The old Kobra HUD works with my eyes, but not much else. I could still shoot expert with the Aimpoint, but I brought my own optics for deployments. Rank has its privileges
