Once I got the allen wrench to hold the sear under spring tension upright this was a breeze. I fiddled with that for a good 10 minutes as I was not getting it to rest on the outside wall of the back of the mag-well. Great video very happy. Thought I had missed something when I had the one spring left over after assembly, but it functions great!

great instructional video as usual. that said, can you invest in an HD camera? there really is no reason for non-HD videos to exist anymore. 👍
@Reverenddelzao4 жыл бұрын
If you're having issues with the "Sear under spring tension upright"? Use an empty magazine. I struggled for a LONG while, then realized "Wayment, hollup". Tilt the Sear ALL the way straight, insert the empty mag, the mag body holds it perfect. 4 minutes later, in place, and functioning fine.

Great video, very clear and good info. A question though: the factory mag disconnect looks remarkably similar to the Blast Shield, except for the curly tail. So I assume the curly bit is the bit that actually disconnects the mag. So why can't you just cut off the curly bit?
@Dr_Mauser4 жыл бұрын
Just did mine. A 5/32" punch can also be used to align the hammer and safety. I do notice two spots right away on top of the blast shield that are getting bit by the hammer, although that's probably because the bolt isn't stopping the hammer, so don't dry-fire without the barrel on too often.... I too was a bit concerned about the lack of a spring to hold it down in position. This is also a good time to install the right side safety lever delete washer if you want to go that way. Nice little accessory. I'm opposed to mag safeties. Any control I can't manipulate that keeps the gun from going off when I want it to is a bad thing.
@TANDEMKROSS4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you'll want to use your thumb or something to stop the hammer from slamming all the way forward in the event you need to dry fire it with the barrel off. I'm glad you like it though!

@@TANDEMKROSS Actually, the only problem I had doing the install was the first time the toggle on the hammer that goes into the hammer spring missed. So folks need to make sure the little black thing on the Hammer goes into the little dished out spot.

If you already have the Victory trigger installed, recommend backing out the overtravel screw all the way. Otherwise once you swap these parts you might have a dead trigger and think you installed it wrong. Ask me how I know. Took this damn thing apart 5 times until I realized what was going on....
@jameshighley99195 ай бұрын
I installed the trigger, adjusted it. Then installed the new sear and hammer. I had the same result. Took it apart several times thinking I installed something in correctly. Watched the video about 10 times. Finally took all the adjustment out of trigger to get it working. I wish I would have installed the sear and hammer 1st. Then the trigger.😢

What purpose does a magazine safety serve?
@danielsantos78624 жыл бұрын
Is the magazine disconnect system exactly the same in all ruger mark IV's I wanna get a mark IV hunter and remove the magazine disconnect, would that be the exact same process for all Mark IV's despite the different models ?
@TANDEMKROSS4 жыл бұрын
Yes. There are some slight differences between the internals of Mark IVs and Mark IV 22/45s, but all Mark IVs have the same internals, and the mag disconnect (and the process for removing and replacing it) is pretty much identical across all Mark IVs and Mark IV 22/45s.

I just had to get rid of the magazine safety. I put in a Volquartsen kit which replaced the hammer, trigger, sear, bushing and disconnector. The Volquartsen trigger is adjustable. My gun is a MK IV 22/45 Tactical model. It was also a recalled gun which I sent the frame back to Ruger to replace the safety. After putting in the Volquartsen kit, the new safety rattled around alot. Volquartsen sent me a shim which took care of most of the rattle. So, my question is, Will the Blast Shield be compatible with the Volquartsen kit and the model of Ruger that I have ? Also, I found that when tightening up the left side upper grip screw, check to see if the bolt catch lever moves freely. I snugged my grip screw just a little too tight causing the bolt catch lever to bind and was sluggish.
@TANDEMKROSS6 жыл бұрын
Hi Emmanuel, the Blast Shield will not work with the Volquartsen hammer - it is only compatible with the factory hammer. The VQ hammer and bushing work together to remove the magazine disconnect, so if you're using both of those products then you don't need the Blast Shield. The Blast Shield is compatible with the VQ sear, trigger and disconnector, but you would have to use the factory hammer in order to use the Blast Shield. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Why would you want to be able to fire without the mag in though?? What’s the use
@militantfascade91763 жыл бұрын
You might want to de-cock for cleaning or storage. Having a magazine disconnect means that you absolutely HAVE to put a magazine into the gun to de-cock it. This increases the chances of putting the wrong mag in the gun, possibly with ammo in it. Best practice is not have ammo or mags near your work area. Another reason (not exactly applicable to this gun, but more for a duty or defensive gun) would be if you are changing mags and need to be able to fire the round in the chamber, say if someone or something (dog, other animal) attacks you during a reload. That one round could save your life or someone else's if it isn't locked away. Magazine safeties also introduce a risk that debris or broken parts prevents the gun from firing even with a mag in the magwell, if the mag disconnect gets jammed or bent.

Thanks for the feedback! When we say "drop in" it's usually more to mean that no machining or drilling or specialized gear/skill is required. Some of our products, like the Buckmark Gearbox, really do *just* drop right in. But yeah this one is a little more complicated than that.

Some customers have said the trigger feels better with the "Blast Shield" installed. However, it won't make the trigger pull weight any lighter.
@NoFailureAllowed6 жыл бұрын
What is this for? What is the advantages of having a blast shield? Why would one want to be able to fire a round without a magazine in it?
@TANDEMKROSS6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your interest! Removing the magazine disconnect can actually improve firearm safety by making the trigger function the same way regardless of the magazine condition. This can help ensure the user (even new shooters) remembers to keep their finger off the trigger unless ready to shoot, and can help prevent an unexpected trigger pull by inserting a magazine with a finger on the trigger. Some users have also found that the gun simply functions better overall without this feature, and the "shield" feature of the Blast Shield protects the sear and hammer from debris, which keeps them running better for longer. Hope that helps answer your question. Don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like any other information.
