Ruger No. 1 30-06 Load Choice

Shooting (7) different loads of 30-06 at 50 Yards to determine which is most accurate.

Back in the '70's, I bought a barreled action Ruger #1 in .30-06 and installed a Fajen 4A Greek Circcasian walnut stock that I built from scratch. Just the two rough pieces of wood cost me $180 back when that was a lot of money. Then I slowly hand checkered it myself. Total build time over 100 hours. Mounted a Leopold 3X9 scope on it and after glass bedding it, it shoots less than a minute of angle all day long (with custom handloads of course). It has got to be one of the most beautiful rifles I have ever seen with deep colour and grain that just gleams. You can't buy that type or quality of wood anymore as it's long gone. I don't think I will ever sell this one....

That’s a beautiful Rifle. I would probably use it as a keep sake. 30-06 is not very pleasant to shoot for smaller framed fellas. Good shooting though. With my eye sight shooting further than a few yards I’m definitely using some glass. Those iron sites look close together like a short barrel setup anyway. The contrast in dark woods probably could hit dirt 😅

Your discription of the sights on the Ruger is off. The banded front sight and the one quarter rib rear sight are state of the art if you know of such things. Never buy a rifle that does not have open sights. If you do then add at least another 500 dollars to the cost of the rifle to add optics. It shows just how cheap firearms manufacturers have become when they won't even put sights on a rifle.

I used to have a Ruger #1 international model in 30-06. It was a real nice rifle but I didn't hunt with it a whole lot in bad weather because I was more worried about the condition of the rifle than the game. I sold it and got enough money to buy a bolt action 30-06, a scope for it, and my first 35 Whelen with a scope. The CVA .35 Whelen I bought turned out to be a piece of junk with bad headspace so I bought a Lipsey's Ruger #1 in .35 Whelen. The most efficient cartridge I have ever loaded for. I got rid of all my magnum rifles because I have the poor mans magnum.

Hey Shiny, I took them all down. Wanting to make a new start with better quality and shorter length as my goal. I left up my rifle videos just because I love those rifles.

You raise your head too fast after the shot. Follow through longer after the shot. It will help with your precision.
