My Security 9 went back to Ruger for repairs after a couple of months and about 2000 rounds of various ammo (no +P) fired through it. It had a broken firing pin and a broken hammer. After it came back, I shot about 400 rounds and had to send it back: broken firing pin again (titanium, no less). I was told it also had excessive polishing on the slides (?). Ruger decided to destroy the pistol, retire its serial number, and send me a replacement, which has worked well so far. Ruger customer service is superb.

@@mattdockery307 All that and the hype, too. The cost of the pistol is not the real cost. Decent defensive ammunition, for example the Federal HST 124grain are around $1.00 per round unless you shop really hard and/or buy 1,000 rounds at a time.

After 30 years of not having a firearm, I went out today and With the help of a very knowledgeable instructor, was recommended this gun. I was looking for a Glock 19 size, for home defense and conseal carry size with at least 12 rounds and this exceeded that which was a plus. Sad part is no ammo to be found, but the ranges will have some for me to use to get use to it. I have family and close friends who are in law enforcement and said this is exactly the right gun for me. I wanted a safety and this one is easy to use. I like it's easy to keep clean and has a nice look to it. Great review. As a first handgun, I am very happy that it's made in America, and being affordable right now when prices have shot up to what they are right now

Just shot my Security 9 today for the first time (about 200 rounds). Zero issues and shoots accurately. Feel GREAT in the hand like my CZ's. This is a lot of gun for under $300. You don't have to worry about accidentally turning the safety on but it's easy to turn off. That was good thinking by the engineers.

He says "Everybody focuses on the trigger..." Yes, we do, and in my opinion, unnecessarily so. This gun (and most other handguns whose primary function is self defense) needs to be able to put multiple shots in a 6' circle at about fifteen yards centered on an aggressor's sternum quickly, using one hand, and in an incredibly stressful few seconds of time. This gun, and many others, can do that; the limiting factor is the human operator. The Ruger does everything that a Glock 19 does at around 2/3 the cost. I own several Rugers, including the Security 9, and I have found Ruger's service to be stellar over the years. Plus, their grips fit me better than high dollar underwear.

As far as I can find out the Security 9 name is because this is meant to be an affordable quality duty pistol in the same way the Security 6 revolver was meant to be back in the day. My standard for 25+ years has been a Beretta 92FS. For many reasons this was the first pistol I have handled that I ever thought might replace my 92FS. Not been a fan of Glock since they came out. Just a matter of personal preference.

This is the first gun I ever purchased two years ago and I absolutely love the pistol. I had some upgrades put on such as fiber optic front and rear sights, a low profile flat faced aluminum trigger, talon slide and hand grips, as well as a trigger finger index point on the side. It is a fantastic high value pistol that in my honest opinion is ideal for a first time gun owner for home defense or conceal carry. The pistol is actually fairly light and has a very thin profile on the handle so it’s really easy to get a really solid grip on the gun. Couldn’t be happier for a first time pistol

However, when American was introduced, I purchased the full size 9 immediately and the compact 9 as soon as it was released. I have no regrets. A young family member was considering the Security 9 for their first ccw. After handling it at the gun shop, they opted to wait till they could get the American Compact. I personally wont own another GLOCK i have several Rugers from the P89,P90,American .45 security 9 and a few S&W’s i tried Glocks just didn’t care for them i think youre paying more for the name than the quality and Ruger is made in Prescott Arizona and Iva had some minor issues with my P90 i took to them they fixed at no charge even though ive had it over 10 years great service

It has a nice balance and the trigger isn't that bad. Swap out the sights for NS and you're set

I believe Security 9 is paying homage the the Security 6 which is a wonderful handgun carried by many in law enforcement until about 30 - 35 years ago.

Supposedly it's for increase the accuracy. It locks it in and a little tighter when you're shooting it and extend it out and then when it kills back or when it goes back forward and tightens everything up again. I'm just relaying what I got remember who brought that up? Might have been Hickok but I got to be wrong. Actually I think it's kind of neat. It looks like a little cannon barrel. I don't know what you're going to get there because this is an older video for you. Have a good day!

I don't have a Security 9 (yet) but in discussion I've tried to correct people that think it is "single action". I have an LCP II and your description of "pre-cocked hammer" is the wording I've been looking for.

I have a Security 9 pistol and have run 800 rounds through it without one hiccup. As for the thumb safety, there is no way it will ever engage by accident. The design is such that it engages with some difficulty, but disengages easily when needed. As much as I have tried to engage the safety with my shooting thumb, at least on my gun, it is impossible to do. Therefore, I would say if you don't like a thumb safety, don't use it. Simple. Also, SR9 magazines will work in this pistol if you make a cut on the right side matching the Security 9 cut. I have altered 4 magazines and all perform 100%.

Well I'm a first time hand gun owner and I insisted on a Ruger. So here's my review. I fired my 1st 200 rounds no problems. I went fired another 265 rounds and stove piped once. Its New I think break in time is needed. and bought another 200 rounds and it started to stove pipe on me a couple more times.. But one of the boxes was 147gr I had been firing 115gr with no issues. So then I went ahead and cleaned with CLR as directed by range master and using minimal oil on slide and barrel. Went back and fired 130 rounds and it stove piped 3 more times and the slide stuck or jammed once. Now I'm a Newbee ,I ask the range master is it me or the gun . He said it could be the ejector .I recoil with my arms not my wrist. And use the right ammo, how bout how I cleaned my weapon.. nope we went over cleaning procedures. So just to MAKE SURE I fire another 105 rounds to make it a even 900 rounds. With a magazine jam up and more stove piped rounds. So NOW I'M WORRIED..Did I get a lemon or wtf is going on. I call the place where I bought it from the same place I've gone to for 20yrs . They said bring it in we are sending it back with no charge.. So it's been 2 weeks and I've tracked it, it's due back tomorrow on 11/23/18 day after Thanksgiving. When I get back from the range,I will then give you the reason, and the full rundown of what has malfunctioned or I'll know if it's me for SURE by tomorrow. Thanks for the awesome video. Give me your feed back if any .Thanks Newbee. This is the first part.

The size, the trigger action, and price makes this seem like a close comparison to the Walther Creed. Although it sounds like the Creed may have a better trigger. But both are full sized with a semi cocked hammer at a budget price.
