Ruger SP101 vs. Rossi RP63

My first wheel gun was my dads Ruger he carried in Vietnam. We have a family tradition where mom buys you your first gun and it's always a Ruger because she grew up right down the road from the Ruger plant. She bought him his revolver right from the factory for when he left for Vietnam, bought my older brothers their first guns, and she bought me my first gun (Ruger P95). With that said, I just bought the Rossi RP63 on a hell of a deal over Black Friday ($250 NiB). I was hoping to find a deal on the SP101, but could not pass up the price on the Rossi. Damn that Ruger is sexy.... anyways, great video!

Ruger should make all SP101 revolvers as six shot guns. I would like the Rossi over the Ruger just on that basis alone. I carried an SP101 for a few years as a BUG and had some durability issues with it in ankle carry. I parked it in the gun safe after it was rebuilt by Ruger and wound up carrying a Taurus 856 that ran like a champ with no issues for several years. I also switched to pocket carry as a practical matter. I realize this is a sample of one, but my Ruger was heavy but not durable at all.

Honestly love my little Taurus 605. Cool to see the Rossi made by them in the same factory. May have to snag one to add to the wheelgun collection.

I’d go with the Rossi on the grounds that it’s a 6 shooter instead of a 5 shooter

Have a Smith, a Taurus and a Ruger. Quality/Finish Smith, Strength-Ruger range use and beater -my Taurus.

the ruger is about 630.00 and the rossi is 335.00 online. Hmmm. The Rossi has a pretty good rep online. Ruger is investment cast? Rossi is forged?

There has been a lot issues with Rossi revolvers over the years & Ruger's casting is far more advanced than years before to a point where there's barely any difference in durability vs forged.

The Ruger GP 100 every time. I had the Rossi same model but blue. It broke on me twice once after a repair. Ruger GP 100 never had a problem. Spend a little more get a lot more.

If I bought a 101 it would be polished stainless, with some beautiful custom wood grips. Add a handcrafted leather holster. Functional jewelry as much as a weapon. But I already have a pretty 5 shot snub. I'm looking at the Rossi or the Taurus 327 to replace the Taurus 856UL that I traded away and miss. I got the better end of the trade, but still...

I don't understand how Taurus can have consistent quality control when it comes to Rossi but quality control for their own Taurus lines suck. Buy a Rossi and you'll get a good gun. Buy a Taurus and cross your fingers you get a good one.

You have it backwards. Taurus has come a long way compared to 10 years ago. Rossi on the other hand has issues most of the time. I’ve heard mixed things on the Rp63 mostly good, a few bad things like the cylinders locking up.

Have had two rossi rp63. One a replacement under warranty for the first. Just get the Ruger. The Rossi is a good choice for those that don't need a gun. Say this from experience.

I feel like all of the modern crop of revolvers offer value at their price point. Ruger beats the Rossi sure, but I’d take a Colt or Kimber over the Ruger.

Why would you carry 5 shots to 6 shots. I carry 6 shots and the Rossi/Taurus are modern day pistols with all the modern practices in place. I own a Rossi and at 30 yards is still hit where aiming. Ruger costs twice as much as Rossi. So do the math on the better one for your protection.
