The transfer bar does not lower so the hammer hits the pin. That would defeat the purpose of it. The transfer bar stays up when the trigger is pulled and the hammer's energy is "transferred" to the transfer bar, which hits the firing pin. WHen the trigger isn't pulled, the transfer bars comes out of the way, which makes it impossible for the hammer to reach the hammer to hit the firing pin. That's why it's called a transfer bar... because it's transferring the energy. It's physically impossible to have the gun go off if you hit the hammer like you would on a colt. THere is a small gap between the hammer's strike area and the firing pin that is filled by transfer bar. It's a genius idea. Great review otherwise.

@@r80rt88 I've read that the metallurgy of Ruger is better quality, harder and will last longer than the Italian guns. That's why I will buy American.

I have one of the New Vaqueros from when they first came out, it has the case hardened frame and the black grips with a muted Ruger logo, it is not silver. It has never misfired or failed to operate properly in the ten years I have had it.

Like the video ... love the guns! With respect to the Ruger firing pin mechanism, it is actually a transfer bar not a hammer block safety. The hammer is notched and cannot touch the firing pin unless the transfer bar remains between the hammer and firing pin. Pull the trigger and release the hammer slowly and you'll see the transfer bar falls away if you release the trigger but if you keep the trigger depressed as the hammer falls then the transfer bar stays in place which allows the hammer to strike the firing pin.

I have both. The comparison short and longterm isn’t a contest. The Ruger fit finish and quality is head and shoulders above the Uberti. You pay for it, but it will last longer than you. You could pay more for an original Colt, but IMO even that, is a lesser firearm by design.

The Vaquero also uses coil springs rather than leaf springs like the original SAA, giving you a much smoother and consistent feel.

Beautiful gun brother. I hope she survives you well. I got into these wheel gun about a year ago. I have a uberti cattleman and a real colt made in 1882. And i have fallen in love with them. I want to try the ruger because I have broken a few springs on the uberti.

The transfer bar safty moves when the trigger is not pulled back to the rear position it will stay when trigger is held back and transfer the hammer to the firing pin... the hammer will not hit the pin unless trigger is pulled

The Ruger works fine. I looks a lot like a Colt SAA. It has a totally modern action, and it is hell for stout. It does not feel like a Colt, it does not sound like a Colt. Whether that matters to you or not will determine which gun you purchase. I have two Rugers I like to carry when out and about in the woods. I have had numerous Colts and clones that I just love to shoot.

russ elder I don’t agree with all they (NRA) do either. But if we don’t support them we’re going to be in big trouble in my opinion. They piss liberals off like crazy so right there means you’re doing something right ha ha I did not do a video about this but found that the new vaquero did not hold a candle to the Ubertis in terms of accuracy. Not even close. I suspect the shorter barrel makes a difference. Either way, it did not stay in my collection for long. Guns that are inaccurate hold little interest for me regardless of how well they are made

I’ve had Uberti type SA guns, IMO opinion they feel cheap. The Ruger SA pistols do not and are safer to shoot. So that’s why I bought a New Vaquero in .357 with 4 5/8 barrel. And the Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk are even stouter!

Yes especially in .357 Mag - good thick cylinder walls between each chamber. Find a load that hits to the sights and it’d make a solid working gun for a rancher (though I’d lean stainless for that role).

I had a Ruger super single six 40 yrs ago. The grip frame was attached to the cylinder frame with about a 1/64th inch missmatch. I had to file the faces off each to get them to fit properly. I recently bought a Taylor/Uberti Cattleman II. A few things to fix as far as fit and finish, but nothing as bad as the Ruger. Timing was off but I was able to correct. Changed out the hammer and trigger to make it a four clicker. Which do i like best? I gave the single six to my Aunt many years ago. Didnt like single actions much until i bought the Uberti. Now I'm in love with 1873's. Uberti did that, not Ruger.
