FYI this works on the 45's as well. I was really happy with your presentation. Great job. Now I know the total correct way of doing my guns. Thank you.

That was a Fantastic video!!! I've had an Old Vaquero .44 mag for many years. I bring it to the field as my side piece for hunting. Watching this has given me the incentive to tear it down and get busy... Thank you so much Chuck in Michigan

A New Vaquero is different than a Vaquero. Please update the title and Description. Thanks for the info and great video. I have a pair of SASS Ruger New Vaqueros with consecutive serial numbers in .357mag.

Quick tip, when removing grip frame screws, take the screws that are near the hammer first, and the screws in front of you thumb next

Can you please provide part number from Brownells Gate Detent Tool. for the Vaquero? Also would like the other part numbers for the Hollow Ground bits and the Wolf Precision Pin for the Vaquero. Your video said this would be provided but I didn't see them or didn't know where to look.

Is this a double action Vaquero since the pawl rotates the cylinder when you pull the trigger? And have you replaced that come apart constantly screwdriver yet?

The Gate Detent tool is no longer avaliable from brownells. Please advise

My 4 5/8" Vaquero won't cock if I put the long lower frame screw and pin inlet on the right side. My 7.5" Vaquero doesnt care but the pin sticks out the frame a little more if I orient it to the left.

Watch the Ruger Customer Service disassembly/ reassembly video. The little Brownells tool is unnecessary.

Brown elli sells a special tool for removing the base pin cylinder latch or you can buy a spanner bit at Home Depot that fits it . Instead of using pliers

interesting stuff. I have a Vaquero, the new model, and have mixed feelings. The safety key thing I really don't understand on a gun like this. Having said that I have never had any problems with it after setting to fire position. The Vaquero seems like an ok handgun, but I would be interested in your overall opinion of the handgun as someone who knows them inside and out.

The little detent that he was referring to is not considered a safety other than it prevents the cylinder from free floating in both directions. It only allows the cylinder to rotate clockwise but a lot of people like to have the cylinder able to go back in case you pass up the chamber while loading or unloading. On the older versions of guns they require an aftermarket piece and some alterations to the gun. You're lucky to be able to remove this detent quite easily, small allen head set screw just under and to the side of the transfer bar. If it doesn't bother you then no big deal. If it is wearing on the rear of the cylinder, or if you want a free floating cylinder then remove it. Not like you can't put it back in. Plenty of people have removed them and the gun still functions normally once the loading gate is closed.

I just realized that you could be referring to the hammer spring lock. Yeah, if that isn't an unnecessary safety feature I don't know what is. At least the similar safety on the Springfield Armory 1911's didn't require taking the grip panel off.

I didn't have this on my older set so that was something new for me as well. More of a pain in the butt if you ask me. I also noticed these use the shorter springs. I now need to replace the ones I already purchased. Trying to lighten the hammer for Cowboy Mounted Shooting/CMSA.

These Vaqueros aren't cheap. Now I know why. Not sure I want to attempt a break down and reassembly after watching your video. Very challenging. Not much different than putting together a puzzle. If I attempted this, I'm sure I would complete the job only to have a part left over. Otherwise.......thank you.

That little tool was garbage. All that need to do is use your thumbnail to remove that spring and pin. I work on these a lot and those gimmic tools will ruin the spring and marr up the frame but you already proved that.

Helpful vid, but almost unwatchable in the beginning with you smacking that screwdriver all over that poor frame.
