I found your channel about a week ago and have binge watched since that time. Coming from an old lady, I think you are great and l love how you showcase your beautiful country. I was only able to get to Aukland for a day a year ago but I am hoping to go back for a few weeks and travel around your country. It is stunning. Please keep up the good work and give a huge hug to Indi. I am an animal lover myself and never traveled much without my dog until after she passed. Looking forward to your next video but will continue to watch those you have already put out there until I have caught up. Take care and safe travels.

Hello, why has it taken me so long to find you, oh my goodness. I have been following mainly solo trampers, NZ blokes, and been wanting a female solo tramper for a while now. This is so encouraging. I do some solo tramping myself and I am more interested in tenting and bush camping, rather than staying in huts, and I am wanting to do more. I love your dog Indie. Epic. Thanks for taking us with you on your adventures and filming as this takes time and effort.

👍👍👍 .. Good Day Cathy .. Another good one 😊. All alone there .. just Indi, yourself and of course, us. For many, a 'Camping Spot' means serviced, flat Sites with Electrical Plug Points and an Ablution Block nearby. That / the lack thereof and a two and half hour trek upwards .. ever upwards over rugged terrain 🙄 and during Winter .. is fair guarantee that one could be alone on the day 😁. That said, as you touched upon, one must be wise in choosing when. Indi has her priorities in order .. "Mom, get a move on with that tent .. I want inside." Wet wood. Its currently 32°C here with 33 forecasted for tomorrow. We have wet Winters up here in the Swiss North. More often than not, I take along wood harvested earlier in the year and 'balcony-dried' to get things going. Compressed Charcoal Briquettes are also a handy standby. Summers .. forest fire bans tend to put a damper (excuse the pun 😏) on things.. The inbetween 'windows' .. currently great! Over the past year, the Forest Authorities have done a lot of tree harvesting .. resulting in offcuts and detritus for Africa! Just a little folding saw and Bob's your Uncle! Thanks for the share. It's always a pleasure watching you guys out enjoying yourselves. Until the next one then, take care .. Tommy

Yes a semi flat, semi dry spot in the middle of nowhere might not be considered a camping 'spot' to most, but I have come to realise that as long as it is big enough for me to lie down, it is perfect. I am getting more creative as time goes on. Now I see 'spots' all over the place. Oooo, I could camp on that, or there, or over there. My radar is always out. Thanks Tommy. Cathy

Hi there. Just found your channel and subscribed. The most predictable thing about our high country weather, is it's unpredictability. A handy hint for you, it's good habit to get into, if you know you're going to have a fire at your camping spot, is break off dry twigs from dead standing timber, while you're under the canopy, and while you're actually tramping to your camping spot. As long as it's not from dead timber on the ground, or out in the open. Also take a 50ml bottle of hand sanitizer with you as well. If you want to. It contains alcohol. Btw "Leatherwood" burns green, usually found in the high country. ID it by the leaves. They look like green leather. Hence the name. If you know where to look, you can possibly find chaga. It's a trees answer to self healing, if damaged. It's got 2 properties....a good fire starter, and if added to boiling water, makes an ok tea. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I see I've got some binge watching to do. Looking forward to further episodes. Take care.
@adventureot5 ай бұрын
Great idea with the sanitiser. I forgot about that. I have some in my medical kit.I am super interested in the Leatherwood. I will look that up. As for the Chaga, you have helped me out hugely because I was shown how to use this as a fire starter 8 years ago and for the life of me I could not remember it's name. I have two trips in the pipeline so might get to use this knowledge sooner rather than later. Have a great weekend. Cathy

Hello Cathy, another enjoyable video, and a great job on getting the fire going, for we who tramp the NZ hills in winter all know, that no matter the skills or years doing it, it can be a task to get the damn thing going, but persistence pays off. The coldness of the NZ mountains goes right through to the bone, even when the sun is shining. I always carry a hip flask full of turps (with turps written on it), this soaks into the wood and makes it easier to start. Looking forward to your next adventure. You should do a couple of days trips walking into spots you want to go winter camping at and only carry in the bare necessities and the rest of your load being a pack full of fire wood the same weight as what you carry in on a normal camping trip and stash it in the bush covered in plastic so it can't get wet then you'll have wood when you go camping next

Hey there. Did you ever try camping on that peninsula where Rocket Lab launches? That would be cool. I tried it once near Cape Canaveral for a shuttle mission but the thing kept getting delayed and I ran out of time..
@adventureot5 ай бұрын

Hi, I’m always excited for your camps. I do have a question, where did you get Indi’s coat. I love the way it fits her. I have a 7lb. Maltese that’s cold all the time. If you have a link that would be fantastic? Or the just the name of it. Also are you in the same area as AB Camping and Abel? I just adore my 3 campers from New Zealand!!
@adventureot5 ай бұрын
Hi Paula. Thank you! The coat is a Weatherbeeta, which is primarily an equestrian brand, but they also make dog products. Here is a link to their site www.weatherbeeta.com/for-dogs I live on the same island as Tony and Abel but they are a bit further north than me, so our camping locations don't tend to overlap unless I'm deliberately up that way. They are good people. We are lucky to have a nice YT camping community. Have a lovely weekend. Cathy

Why do you make the fire so far from your tent love your dog.
@adventureot5 ай бұрын
I think I mentioned it in the video. Someone had already lit one there before so I used the same spot to reduce the number of scorched patches on the ground. I t was easy enough to move my seat there to sit around it, and reduced the risk of embers on the tent 😊👍

For a laugh I just weighed Indi's gear (what I carry for her), and if I add 500g for the need to take a 2 person tent over a 1 person, all up I'm carrying 3kg extra when she comes with me. Then I weighed my camera gear, 4kg. So I guess I could get my pack down to 13kg easily if I was on my own and not filming.
